  • A series of fluorene-carbazole copolymers containing the pendant phosphor chromophore $Ir(absn)_2(acac)$ (absn: 2-(1-naphthyl)benzothiazole; acac: acetylacetone) were designed and synthesized via Yamamoto coupling. In the film state, these copolymers exhibited absorption and emission peaks at approximately 389 and 426 nm, respectively, which originated from the fluorene backbone. However, in electroluminescent (EL) devices, a significantly red-shifted emission at approximately 611 nm was observed, which was attributed to the pendant iridium(III) complex. Using these copolymers as a single emission layer, polymer light-emitting devices with ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer:DNTPD/TmPyPb/LiF/Al configurations exhibited a saturated red emission at 611 nm. The attached iridium(III) complex had a significant effect on the EL performance. A maximum luminous efficiency of 0.85 cd/A, maximum external quantum efficiency of 0.77, maximum power efficiency of 0.48 lm/W, and maximum luminance of 883 $cd/m^2$ were achieved from a device fabricated with the copolymer containing the iridium(III) complex in a 2% molar ratio.

  • Poly(fluorenylenevinylene-terphenylenevinylene) containing phenyl pendant group was synthesized by Suzuki coupling reaction and characterized by ${1}^H$-NMR, ${13}^C$-NMR, and IR-spectrum. The weight average molecular weight ($M_{w}$) of the obtained polymer was 31,000 with a polydispersity index of 1.9. The polymer showed good solubility in common organic solvents, and the solution and film emitted blue emission ($\lambda_{max}$=460 nm) on irradiation with UV light. The ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Al device fabricated using the polymer as an emitting layer emitted blue light with a maximum peak around 460 nm. The maximum efficiency of the device was 0.011$\%$.

  • This paper reports the synthesis and electroluminescent properties of new aromatic compounds as hole-transporting materials based on phenothiazine, such as 1,4-diphenothiazyl-benzene [DPtzB], 1,4-diphenothiazyl-xylene [DPtzX] and 9,10-diphenothiazyl-anthracene [DPtzA]. DPtzB thin film exhibited photoluminescence (PL) maximum emission peak and emission shoulder at 450 and 475 nm, and a maximum emission at 447 nm without emission shoulder was obtained in DPtzX thin film. When DPtzA was excited by incident light of 359 nm, DPtzA showed strong PL emission at 417 nm and weak emission at 600 nm. Luminance efficiency of DPtzB, DPtzX and DPtzA-based electroluminescence (EL) devices was 3.57, 3.46 and 0.47 cd/A, and power efficiency of DPtzB, DPtzX and DPtzA-based EL devices was 1.48, 1.26 and 0.201 m/W.

  • For the application of Jeju scoria scattered around the island as a natural dye, cotton fabrics were dyed with the dye and their properties were measured including dyeability, colorfastness, antibacterial activity, deodorization efficiency, ultraviolet protection, and far-infrared emission. The dyed cotton fabrics were in yellowish red and optimal dyeing conditions were obtained with a colorant concentration of 25%(o.w.b) at a temperature of $80^{\circ}C$ for the dyeing time of 120 minutes. The ratings of colorfastness to light, rubbing, perspiration, and washing were 8, 5, 5, and 4~5 respectively. After 15 wash cycles, colorfastness remained as much as 4~5 rating. The cotton fabric dyed with Jeju scoria demonstrated excellent antimicrobial activity and deodorization efficiency of 99.9% and 93.9% respectively. Ultraviolet protection factor was 50+. Far-infrared emission rate and far-infrared emission intensity were 90% and 362(W/$m^2{\cdot}{\mu}m$) respectively. The Jeju scoria can be introduced as a new colorant for the natural dyeing of cotton.

  • In this study, we investigate the $SiO_2$ current blocking layer (CBL) to improve light output power efficiency in nonpolar a-plane (11-20) GaN LEDs on a r-plane sapphire substrate. The $SiO_2$ CBL was produced under the p-pad layer using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). The results show that nonpolar GaN LED light output power with the $SiO_2$ CBL is considerably enhanced compared without the $SiO_2$ CBL. This can be attributed to reduced light absorption at the p-pad due to current blocking to the active layer by the $SiO_2$ CBL.

  • We have demonstrated Forst-type resonance energy transfer (FRET) in the quasi-solid type dye-sensitized solar cells between organic fluorescence materials as an energy donor doped in polymeric gel electrolyte and ruthenium complex as an energy acceptor on surface of $TiO_2$. The strong spectral overlap of emission/absorption of energy donor and acceptor is required to get high FRET efficiency. The judicious choice of energy donor allows the enhancement of light harvesting characters of energy acceptor in quasi-solid dye sensitized solar cells which increase the power conversion efficiency. The enhanced light harvesting effect by the judicious choice/design of the fluorescence materials and sensitizing dyes permits the enhancement of photovoltaic performance of DSSC.

  • OLED has many advantages of low voltage operation, self radiation, light weight, thin thickness, wide view angle and fast response time to overcome existing liquid crystal display (LCD)'s weakness. Therefore, It draws attention as promising display and has already developed for manufactured goods. Also, OLED is regarded as a only substitute of flexible display with a thin display. However, Indium tin oxide(ITO) thin film for electrode of OLED shows a low electrical properties and is impossible to deposit at high thermal condition because electrical characteristics of ITO is getting worse. One of the ways to realize an improved flexible OLED is to use high internal efficiency electrodes, which have higher work function than those single layer of ITO films of the same thickness. The high internal efficiency electrodes film is developed with structure of nickel oxide for bottom Emission Type of OLED.

  • We fabricated white light-emitting diode which have a mixed single emitting layer containing poly(N-vinylcarbazole), trois(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum and poly(3-hexylthiophene) and investigated the emission properties of it. It is possible to obtain a blue light from poly(N-vinylcarbazole). green light from tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum and red light from poly(3-hexylthiophene). The fabricated device emits white light with slight orange light. We think that the energy transfer in a mixed layer occurred from PVK to Alq₃ and P3HT resulted in decreasing the blue light intensity from PVK. We find that the efficiency of the white light electroluminescent device can be improved by injecting electron more effectively and blue light need to improve the color purity of white light.

  • White organic light emitting devices were fabricated to improve the stability through a structural change using the two peak emission method. The fabricated devices were composed of indium tin oxide (100 nm)/ $\alpha$-NPD (30 nm)/4,40-bis(2,20-diphenylvinyl)-1,10-biphenyl (DPVBi, d: variable)/DPVBi: Rubrene (40 nm)/2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline(5 nm)/ $Alq_3$(5 nm)/ Al (100 nm). A DPVBi for blue emissions was used as the host material in the emitters. The doping concentration of the Rubrene was fixed at 2.0% (by weight). The white emission with Commission Internationale De L'Eclairage coordinates of (0.3342, 0.3439) occurred at 14 V with a thickness d of 1 nm. It was insensitive to the drive voltage, and the devices had a maximum luminance of $211\;cd/cm^2$. At 19 V, the current density and maximum external quantum efficiency were $173\;mAcm^2$ and 0.478%, respectively.
