재귀반사 원리를 이용한 점등이미지 향상 LIGHT GUIDE 개발 (Development of the Light Guide Lamp for Lighting Image Enhancement Using Retro Reflection Principle)

  • In recent years, most automobile manufacturers have been using slim light source images to imprint their own brand image and identity. A light guide type lamp is widely used for making these kinds of a slim light source image. A light guide lamp means using a light emitting diode light source at one end of a long cylindrical pipe. The light from the light emitting diode source moves through the pipe by total reflection principle. Moving light is sent forward by various optic structures which is applied in the cylindrical pipe. However, the light guide lamp has a problem that the image of the light differs depending on the viewing direction, and in some cases there is dark section. It means light guide has low quality about lighting image. In this paper, trying to improve the fundamental problems of the light guide mentioned above by using various triz methods. Through functional modeling, estimating the factors affecting the light in the light guide lamp and make various ideas to improve the lighting image using the chain effect cause analysis, function oriented search scientific database techniques. Using these kinds of various TRIZ methods, finally find solutions that can improve the brightness and lighting uniformity of the light guide lamp. The ideas obtained in this paper were applied to actual vehicle development, and several patents achievements were obtained. In conclusion, it is proved that TRIZ method is useful for making ideas in actual automobile industrial field and is also a useful method for acquiring patent.

Feasibility Study of Diffusion Film for the Light Guide of Gamma Ray Imaging System

  • A light guide improves the spatial resolution of a gamma ray imaging system by diffusing the scintillation light. Similarly, light diffusion film, which has been applied to flat-panel-display engineering, spreads the light from the light guide panel. In this study, we adopted light diffusion film for the light guide of a gamma ray imaging system, and evaluated its diffusion characteristics. We compared the light diffusion performance of the film to an ordinary acrylic plate. As a result, the diffusion film widely spreads scintillation light. As for the thickness of the light guide, we acquired more distinct images with three films overlapped than with an acrylic plate. We expect light diffusion film to be a promising candidate for light guides in gamma ray imaging systems.

광가이드 필름을 이용한 베젤리스 디지털 사이니지 구현에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of Bezelless Digital Signage Using Light Guide Film)

  • 본 논문은 빛을 일정한 방향으로 전달하는 광가이드 특성을 이용하여 디지털 사이니지 베젤에서의 광학적 불연속성을 개선하고자 한다. 광학적 성능이 우수한 Polycarbonate에 Light guide film을 부착, 필름 내부에 존재하는 마이크로 사이즈의 구조에 의한 빛의 굴절, 반사, 산란의 효과를 발생하였다. 아크(arc) 모양의 polycarbonate 광가이드 필름을 각기 다른 색의 LED source (적색, 녹색)에 기계적으로 밀착하여 광학적 전달효과를 관찰하였다. 아크 형태의 광가이드 필름에 빛의 반사 및 산란이 발생하여 녹색과 붉은색의 혼합색인 주황색이 발생하는 것을 확인하였다. 이는 일반적으로 베젤이 존재하는 멀티 디지털 사이니지 시스템의 약점인 디스플레이의 광학적 불연속성을 해결할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • We have studied several light guide concepts for light-valve projection engines. The aim of the light guide is to replace the array of lenses and mirrors in conventional transmission-type projection engines. Volume, cost and weight can be reduced, at a similar or better performance level. Results of a first prototype are discussed.

섬광 픽셀과 동일한 물질로 광가이드를 적용한 매우 작은 섬광 픽셀 검출기 설계 (Design of Small-sized Scintillation Pixel Detector with a Light Guide made of the Same Material as the Scintillation Pixel)

  • 우수한 공간분해능을 달성하기 위해 소동물용 양전자방출단층촬영기기의 검출기에는 매우 작은 섬광 픽셀을 사용한다. 그러나 이러한 매우 작은 섬광 픽셀을 사용함으로써 배열의 가장자리 부분의 섬광 픽셀들이 평면 영상에서 중첩되는 현상이 발생할 수 있다. 이를 해결하기 위해 빛의 분포를 변화시킬 수 있는 광가이드를 사용하였다. 광가이드의 물질에 따라 빛이 퍼지는 경향이 달라지며, 이에 따라 어떠한 물질의 광가이드를 사용하느냐에 따라 겹침의 발생 유무가 달라진다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 유리 광가이드를 대신하여 섬광 픽셀과 동일한 물질의 광가이드를 적용한 검출기를 설계하였다. 섬광체 광가이드는 유리 광가이드에 비해 더 높은 굴절률을 지녀, 빛의 퍼지는 정도가 달라진다. 두 광가이드를 사용한 검출기의 가장자리 부분의 섬광 픽셀들의 분리 정도를 평가하기 위해 평면 영상을 획득하였다. 획득한 평면 영상의 가장자리 두 섬광 픽셀 영상의 공간분해능과 중심 간의 거리를 산출하여, 분리 정도를 평가하였다. 그 결과 섬광체 광가이드를 사용하였을 경우, 더 우수한 공간분해능을 보였으며, 섬광 픽셀들의 중심 간의 거리가 더 넓게 나타났다. 기존에 사용하는 유리 광가이드 대신에 섬광체 광가이드를 사용하여 검출기를 구성할 경우 더 작은 섬광 픽셀을 사용할 수 있으므로, 더 우수한 공간분해능을 확보할 수 있을 것이다.

  • The light guide plate of the TFT-LCD reflects the light originated from the light source, and guides the light to the front side of LCD so that we can see images vividly. This paper is concerned with tile injection molding of the light guide plate for the reflective typed LCD related to IMT-2000. The finite element analysis has been carried out based on the pine stress theory to predict both the thermal stresses of the products in the post-filling stage and the in-plane deformation behavior of the products after ejection process. Based on the simulation results, the mold for the light guide plate of a 2inch sized LCD has been designed.

LED Light Coupler Design for a Ultra Thin Light Guide

  • A LED light coupler is proposed for coupling light from a mini side LED of 0.4 mm height to a very thin (${\sim}0.3 mm$) light guide. Due to the ultra thinness of the light guide, conventional light couplings between LEDs and light guides do not provide adequate coupling efficiency. The designed LED coupler is a compound lens of 3.5 mm length, 1.2 mm height, and 3.3 mm width. The courier first collimates the light from the LED and then concentrates the light in a manner similar to a compound parabolic concentrate, (CPC) into the light guide. The exit surface of the coupler is additionally textured to have micro patterns in order to control the radiance profile.

  • A light guide panel (LGP) is an element of the LCD back light unit, which is used for display devices. In this study, a laser marking process is applied to the fabrication of light guide panels as the new fabrication process. In order to obtain a light guide panel which has high luminance and uniformity, four principal parameters such as power, scanning speed, ratio of line gap, and number of line were selected as important factors. A Web-based design tool was developed to generate patterns of light guide panel, and the tool may assist the designer to develop optimized patterns. Topcon-BM7 was used for luminance measurement of each specimen 100mm$\times$100mm area. By Taguchi method optimized levels of each parameters such as 40W of power, 30mm/s of scanning speed, 100:50 ratio of pattern gap, and 90 line of pattern were found by Taguchi method.

  • The backlight unit (BLU) is used as a light source of TFT liquid-crystalline-display (TFT-LCD) module. In this backlight unit, one of important components is the light guide, which is usually made of transparent polymers. Currently, the screen-printing method is mainly used for the light guide as a manufacturing process. However, it has limitation to the flexibility of three-dimensional optical design. In the present paper a new alternative manufacturing method for the light guide with low-cost is proposed. This manufacturing method is named as direct surface forming (DSF), which is very similar to the well-known hot embossing except for partial contact between mold and substrate. The results of this new manufacturing method are presented in terms of processing condition, dimensional accuracy, productivity, etc.
