This study will design the structural optimization of 21 W LED heat sink using the thermal conductive plastic materials. The thermal conductive plastic heat sink is inferior to aluminum heat sinks in thermal properties. This study will solve this problem using formability of thermal conductive plastic heat sink. A heat sink was optimized in terms of the number, and the thickness of fins and the base thickness of the heat sink, using the Heatsinkdesigner software. Also by using SolidWorks Flow simulation and thermal analysis software, the thermal characteristics of the heat sink were analyzed. As the result, the optimized heat sink has 17 fins, which are 1.5 mm thick and a 3.7 mm-thick base. The highest and the lowest temperature were $51.65^{\circ}C$ and $46.24^{\circ}C$ respectively. Based on these results, The thermal conductive plastic heat sink is considered possible to overcome heating problem when designing in complex structure.
This study represents the temperature uniformity in catalytic converter. Present research model type is a monolithic catalytic converter. This type was been widely used for complying the regulations of pollutant emissions from automobiles. The mean experimental parameters are engine speed and ceramics monolith in the catalytic converter. The experimental test engine model used was the 124.1cc motorcycle engine. The experimental study using thermal imaging method shows the megaphone type model has larger effective area than the basic model. The rate of effective area in the basic model is about 8.9 % and the megaphone type model are 41.52 %, 34.60 %, 33.43 %, 25.43 %, 17.82 % according to the diffuser angle $4^{\circ}\;to\;8^{\circ}$. In conclusion, the megaphone type monolithic converter has higher efficiency of reducing the pollution with less noise compared to the basic shape. We believe this will be very important as a design guide of the advanced motorcycle.
This paper is the result of a research on hybrid tuning technology developed to improve the actual fuel efficiency and reduce emissions of in-use light-duty diesel trucks. In this study, a hybrid powertrain was constructed by inserting an electric motor between the diesel engine and manual transmission of an internal combustion engine vehicle and installing a battery. To verify the safety, a test was conducted based on the Korean tuning regulations. In particular, since there has been no case of tuning an internal combustion engine vehicle into a hybrid vehicle in Korea, it was necessary to carry out all procedures to receive tuning approval. The approval process consists of a technical review, safety verification test, and application for tuning approval. As a result, the test vehicle was approved for tuning because both the technical review and vehicle test results were suitable. Therefore, this study confirmed the safety of diesel hybrid tuning technology, and laid the foundation for the research and development of technologies to tune into an eco-friendly vehicle as well as the activation of related industries.
The stalling speed flight test of light airplane, ChangGong-91, was performed to acquire the certification. With power-off engine condition, the wings level stall flight tests were conducted at the aircraft configuration of various flap angle - clean, 20degree, and full flap, respectively. They were performed considering with the combination of the maximum and minimum test weight, and forward and afterward center of gravity. The stalling speeds and the minimum speeds of light airplane were determined from the results of flight test. Also, the appropriateness of stall warning speeds are evaluated through the flight test measures. The airplane is recoverable only with pitch control and engine throttle from stall state without exceptional operation.
In recent years, the environmental demage to urban area becomes serious problem due to the exhaust emissions by increasing the number of vehicle. The proportion of diesel vehicle is very high in this country. Exhaust gas emitted from the diesel-powered vehicle is severly affecting to the air quality. In this study, light-duty diesel engine was studied on the improvement of exhaust gas testing method. Therefore the results obtained effective load method among testing method. It is deserve to test of the PM for the environment.
Increasingly stringent emission regulations of EU and CARB (California Air resource Board) require mandatory OBD (On Board Diagnostics) far the catalytic converters of a vehicle. It demands that MIL(Malfunction Indication Light) should be tuned on to inform the driver of catalytic converter failures. Currently dual oxygen sensor method Is widely used for the converter OBD. However, since it works only alter converter light-off, it has a serious limitation when applied to TLEV or more stringent emission regulations where more than 85% of total emission is coming out before converter light-off. In addition, a recent development in catalyst material. coating technology and additive catalysts leads to a much improved OSC (Oxygen Storage Capacity) after converter light-off, current methods are very difficult to determine levels of converter aging. Therefore, it is desired to develop an OSC detecting method before converter light-off to diagnose converter failures with higher reliability. In this study, OSCs of converters are measured by an absolute measuring method and a dynamic measuring method, and some of fundamental ideas are suggested about converter OBD before converter light-off. The converters are aged with two different aging methods; those are a furnace aging and an engine bench aging: to represent aging conditions in actual field applications. Dual oxygen sensor method at the lower temperature than light-off is also studied at a model gas bench with the converters. It is fecund that there is a certain point in temperature lower than light-off where difference due to aging level becomes maximum, thus a proper dynamic method to effectively monitor catalytic converters could be implemented fur the range lower than light-off temperatures. With this result, the aging level of converters is examined at an engine bench.
Using gas chromatography, the light hydrocarbon emissions were analyzed from SI engine fueled with methane and liquified petroleum gas(LPG), and the effects of fuel and engine operating condition were discussed. For this purpose, 14 species of light hydrocarbon including 1, 3-butadiene were separated, calibrated with standard gas, and measured from undiluted emissions. The brake specific hydrocarbon emission(BSHC) and ozone forming potential(BSO)3 were calculated and discussed with the changes of fuel, engine speed, load, fuel/air equivalence ratio, coolant temperature, and spark timing. As a result, exhaust emission was composed of mainly fuel composed of mainly fuel comp- onent and other olefin components of similar carbon number. The olefin components such as ethylene and propylene determine most of the ozone forming potential. The fraction of fuel component in total hydrocarbon emission was bigger with methane fuel than with LPG fuel. Also fuel fraction increased at high speed or high speed or high temperature of exhaust gas, and to lesser extent with high coolant temperature and retarded spark. However, the effect of equivalence ratio had different tendency according to fuels.
Particulate matters(PM) have bad effect on the health. We carried out measurements of diesel PM under $10{\mu}m$ diameter from a HSDI diesel engine with a diesel oxidation catalyst(DOC) by using the ELPI. This paper compares the two results of the smoke level and the PM level of masses and numbers. We also investigated the effect of the DOC. Under high speed and load, HSDI diesel engine exhausts much masses of particulate matters over 100nm diameter, and a number of PM from 7 to 100nm diameters at the same condition. DOC could reduce the total mass of the PM. However, the DOC could increase the number of ultra fine PM. Before light-off of the soot, the DOC absorb the PM and the DOC oxidize the PM after light-off temperature. The fine PM could be made during the oxidation. Therefore, the advanced DOC is needed to reduce the number of the fine PM.
This study describes the characteristics of combustion and exhaust emission in the special engine applying a fuel reactivity controlled compression ignition (RCCI) concept with two different energizing type (solenoid and piezoelectric) injectors for diesel injection. A diesel-gasoline mixed dual-fuel reactivity controlled compression ignition concept is demonstrated as a promising method to achieve high thermal efficiency and low emission in internal combustion engines for transportation vehicles. For investigating the combustion characteristics of RCCI, engine experiments were performed in a light-duty diesel engine over a range of injection timing and mixing rate of gasoline in mass. It was investigated that by increasing the nozzle hole diameter, increasing the combustion pressure and the net indicated mean effective pressure. $NO_x$ and soot can be reduced by advancing start of injection in 84 mixing rate of gasoline in mass. The resulting operation showed that light duty engine could achieve 48 percent net indicated efficiency and 191[g/kW-hr] net indicated specific fuel consumption with lower levels of nitrogen oxides and soot.
