열간 슬라브 표면결함 탐상 시스템 (Surface Defect Inspection System for Hot Slabs)

  • In this paper, we propose a new vision-based defect inspection system for the surface of hot slabs. To minimize the influence of self-emission from slab surfaces with high temperature, an optic method based on blue LED light and a blue pass filter is proposed. Because the slab surface is partially covered with scales, which are unavoidable oxidized substances caused during manufacturing, it is difficult to distinguish between vertical cracks and scale. In order to resolve this problem and to improve the detection performance, the use of a Gabor filter and dynamic programming are proposed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by means of experiments conducted on images of hot slabs that were obtained from an actual slab production line.

적은 수의 광센서를 사용한 PET 검출기 설계 (PET Detector Design with a Small Number of Photo Sensors)

  • 양전자방출단층촬영기기의 검출기는 다수의 섬광 픽셀과 다수의 광센서를 사용하여 구성된다. 다수의 광센서를 사용함으로써 비용이 증가하고 신호처리가 복잡해진다. 본 연구에서는 적은 수의 광센서를 사용하여 비용의 감소와 간결한 신호처리가 가능한 검출기를 설계하였다. 섬광 픽셀과 적은 수의 광센서를 사용하고 모든 광센서에 빛을 전달하기 위해 광가이드를 사용하였다. 섬광 픽셀과 광가이드에는 광센서로 최대한의 빛을 전달하기 위해 반사체를 적용하였다. 반사체는 난반사체 및 거울반사체를 사용하였으며, 광가이드의 두께를 다르게 적용하여 평면 영상을 획득하였다. 획득된 평면 영상의 비교 분석을 통해 최적의 조합을 선택하였다. 그 결과 섬광 픽셀과 광가이드 모두 거울반사체를 사용하였을 경우, 모든 두께의 광가이드에서 우수한 평면 영상을 획득하였다. 광가이드는 섬광 픽셀의 영상이 형성된 지점의 분석 및 영상의 크기를 고려하여 3 mm 두께를 사용할 경우 최적의 영상이 획득되는 결과를 도출하였다.

A TiO2-Coated Reflective Layer Enhances the Sensitivity of a CsI:Tl Scintillator for X-ray Imaging Sensors

  • Columnar-structured cesium iodide (CsI) scintillators doped with thallium (Tl) are frequently used as x-ray converters in medical and industrial imaging. In this study we investigated the imaging characteristics of CsI:Tl films with various reflective layers-aluminum (Al), chromium (Cr), and titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) powder-coated on glass substrates. We used two effusion-cell sources in a thermal evaporator system to fabricate CsI:Tl films on substrates. The scintillators were observed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and scintillation characteristics were evaluated on the basis of the emission spectrum, light output, light response to x-ray dose, modulation transfer function (MTF), and x-ray images. Compared to control films without a reflective layer, CsI:Tl films with reflective layers showed better sensitivity and light collection efficiency, and the film with a $TiO_2$ reflective layer showed the best properties.

고분해능 및 고민감도를 위한 준 블록 섬광체를 사용한 네 층의 반응 깊이 측정 검출기 설계 (Design a Four Layer Depth-Encoding Detector Using Quasi-Block Scintillator for High Resolution and Sensitivity)

  • 소동물용 양전자방출단층촬영기기(positron emission tomography, PET)의 고분해능과 고민감도를 달성하기 위해 매우 가늘고 긴 섬광 픽셀을 사용하여 검출기를 구성한다. 이러한 섬광 픽셀의 구조로 인해 시스템의 관심 시야 외곽에서 공간분해능 저하 현상이 발생한다. 이를 해결하기 위해 반응 깊이를 측정하여 공간분해능을 향상시키고, 준블록 섬광체를 사용하여 민감도를 향상시킬 수 있는 검출기를 설계하였다. 12.6 mm x 12.6 mm x 3 mm 크기의 준블록 섬광체를 네 층으로 배열하고, 모든 옆면에 광센서를 배치하여 감마선과 섬광체가 상호작용하여 발생된 빛을 수집하도록 설계하였다. 설계한 검출기의 성능 평가를 위해 DETECT2000 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 각 층별 섬광체 내에서 1.3 mm부터 11.3 mm까지 1 mm 간격으로 감마선 이벤트를 발생시켜 평면 영상을 획득하였다. 11 x 11 배열의 평면 영상에서 각 위치별 공간분해능과 피크 간 거리를 측정하였다. 측정된 공간분해능의 평균은 0.25 mm였으며, 피크 간 거리의 평균은 1.0 mm였다. 이를 통해 모든 위치가 서로 분리됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 모든 층은 빛의 신호가 서로 분리되어 측정되므로 감마선과 상호작용한 섬광체의 층을 완벽히 분리해낼 수 있었다. 설계한 검출기를 소동물용 PET 시스템의 검출기로 사용할 경우, 우수한 공간분해능과 민감도를 달성하여 영상의 질을 향상시킬 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

합성 금속-유기 골격체 NH2-MIL-101(Fe)를 이용한 염료의 흡착 및 광분해 제거 (Adsorption and Photocatalytic Degradation of Dyes Using Synthesized Metal-Organic Framework NH2-MIL-101(Fe))

  • In this study, a metal-organic framework (MOF) material $NH_2$-MIL-101(Fe) was synthesized using the solvothermal method, and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-visible spectrophotometry, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and surface area measurements. The XRD pattern of the synthesized $NH_2$-MIL-101(Fe) was similar to the previously reported patterns of MIL-101 type materials, which indicated the successful synthesis of $NH_2$-MIL-101(Fe). The FT-IR spectrum showed the molecular structure and functional groups of the synthesized $NH_2$-MIL-101(Fe). The UV-visible absorbance spectrum indicated that the synthesized material could be activated as a photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. FE-SEM and TEM images showed the formation of hexagonal microspindle structures in the synthesized $NH_2$-MIL-101(Fe). Furthermore, the EDS spectrum indicated that the synthesized material consisted of Fe, N, O, and C elements. The synthesized $NH_2$-MIL-101(Fe) was then employed as an adsorbent and photocatalyst for the removal of Indigo carmine and Rhodamine B from aqueous solutions. The initial 30 min of adsorption for Indigo carmine and Rhodamine B without light irradiation achieved removal efficiencies of 83.6% and 70.7%, respectively. The removal efficiencies thereafter gradually increased with visible light irradiation for 180 min, and the overall removal efficiencies for Indigo carmine and Rhodamine B were 94.2% and 83.5%, respectively. These results indicate that the synthesized MOF material can be effectively applied as an adsorbent and photocatalyst for the removal of dyes.

배열형 실리콘광증배소자를 이용한 포톤 카운팅 검출기 설계를 위한 몬테칼로 시뮬레이션 연구 (Monte-carlo Simulation for X-ray Photon Counting using MPPC Arrays)

  • 영상의 질 향상과 물질 분석 등을 위해 엑스선을 카운팅하여 검출하기 위한 연구가 활발하다. 본 연구에서는 MPPC 어레이를 사용하여 엑스선 포톤 카운팅을 위한 검출기를 설계하였고, 시뮬레이션을 통해 검출기 특성을 평가하였다. GATE를 사용하여 엑스선과 섬광체와 반응한 위치 정보를 획득하였고, 이 정보를 DETECT2000의 빛 발생 위치로 사용하였다. 0.5 mm와 1 mm 두께의 GAGG 섬광체를 사용하였으며, $4{\times}4$ 어레이의 MPPC를 통해 발생된 빛을 획득하였다. 각 채널별로 획득한 빛의 신호를 통해 영상을 재구성하여 설계한 검출기의 분해능을 확인하였다. 0.5 mm와 1 mm 두께의 GAGG 섬광체에서 모두 2 lp/mm 이상의 영상을 획득하였다. 본 검출기를 엑스선 시스템에 사용할 경우 포톤 카운팅이 가능한 저비용의 시스템을 구축할 수 있을 것이다.

EDTA Surface Capped Water-Dispersible ZnSe and ZnS:Mn Nanocrystals

  • ZnSe and ZnS:Mn nanocrystals were synthesized via the thermal decomposition of their corresponding organometallic precursors in a hot coordinating solvent (TOP/TOPO) mixture. The organic surface capping agents were substituted with EDTA molecules to impart hydrophilic surface properties to the resulting nanocrystals. The optical properties of the water-dispersible nanocrystals were analyzed by UV-visible and room temperature solution photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). The solution PL spectra revealed emission peaks at 390 (ZnSe-EDTA) and 597 (ZnS:Mn-EDTA) nm with PL efficiencies of 4.0 (former) and 2.4% (latter), respectively. Two-photon spectra were obtained by fixing the excitation light source wavelengths at 616 nm (ZnSe-EDTA) and 560 nm (ZnS:Mn-EDTA). The emission peaks appeared at the same positions to that of the PL spectra but with lower peak intensity. In addition, the morphology and sizes of the nanocrystals were estimated from the corresponding HR-TEM images. The measured average particle sizes were 5.4 nm (ZnSe-EDTA) with a standard deviation of 1.2 nm, and 4.7 nm (ZnS:Mn-EDTA) with a standard deviation of 0.8 nm, respectively.

백색 LED용 Ca3MgSi2O8:Eu2+ 백색 형광체의 발광특성 (Luminescent Characteristics of Eu2+- Doped Ca3MgSi2O8:Eu2+ White Phosphors for LED)

  • $Ca_3MgSi_2O_8:Eu^{2+}$(x = 0.003, 0.005, 0.007, 0.01, 0.03 mol) white phosphors for Light Emitting Diodes(LED) are synthesized with different concentrations of $Eu^{2+}$ ions using a solid state reaction method. The crystal structures, surface and optical properties of the phosphors are investigated using X-Ray Diffraction(XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) and photoluminescence(PL). The X-Ray Diffraction results reveals that the crystal structure of the $Ca_3MgSi_2O_8:Eu^{2+}$ is a monoclinic system. The particle size of $Ca_3MgSi_2O_8:Eu^{2+}$ white phosphors is about $1{\sim}5{\mu}m$, as confirmed by SEM images. The maximum emission spectra of the phosphors are observed at 0.01 mol $Eu^{2+}$ concentration. The decrease in PL intensity in the $Ca_3MgSi_2O_8:Eu^{2+}$ white phosphors with $Eu^{2+}$ concentration is interpreted by concentration quenching. The International Commission on Illumination(CIE) coordinate of 0.01 mol Eu doped $Ca_3MgSi_2O_8$ is X = 0.2136, Y = 0.3771.

Syntheses and Optical Properties of the Water-Dispersible ZnS:Mn Nanocrystals Surface Capped by L-Aminoacid Ligands: Arginine, Cysteine, Histidine, and Methionine

  • Water dispersible ZnS:Mn nanocrystals were synthesized by capping the surface of the nanocrystals with four kinds of aminoacids ligands: arginine, cystein, histidine, and methionine. The aminoacids capped ZnS:Mn nanocrystal powders were characterized by XRD, HR-TEM, EDXS, and FT-IR spectroscopy. The optical properties of the aminoacids capped ZnS:Mn colloidal nanocrystals were also measured by UV/Vis and solution photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopies in aqueous solvents. The solution PL spectra showed broad emission peaks around 575 nm (orange light emissions) with PL efficiencies in the range of 4.4 to 7.1%. The measured particle sizes for the aminoacid capped ZnS:Mn nanocrystals by HR-TEM images were in the range of 5.3 to 11.7 nm.

불평등전장에서 $SF_6/CO_2$ 혼합기체의 뇌임펄스 전구방전특성 (Characteristics of lightning impulse preliminary breakdown discharge under non-uniform electric field in $SF_6/CO_2$ mixtures)

  • This paper presents the experimental results on the preliminary breakdown characteristics under a highly non-uniform electric field in $SF_6/CO_2$ gas mixtures. The impulse preliminary breakdown developments are investigated by the measurements of corona current and light emission images. As a result, the preliminary breakdown development mechanisms for both positive and negative polarities are same. The first streamer corona is initiated at the tip of needle electrode, and the leaders develop with a stepwise propagation and bridge the test gap. The pause time of leader pulses in the positive polarity is significantly shorter than that in the negative polarity. Also, the time interval between the first streamer corona onset and breakdown in the negative polarity was much longer than that in the positive polarity The discharge channel paths in the positive polarity were zigzag. On the other hands, the leader channel in the negative polarity was thicker than that in the positive polarity.
