  • One of the big difference between Aalto and other modem architects lies in an attitude that Aalto went beyond the principle of dogmatic functionalism. As an architect of Northern Europe, Aalto made unique architecture that showed both the language of modem architecture and vernacular architecture. He presented the best example which showed modernity in architecture without losing the meaning of the context including site, region and cultural tradition. With this background, Aalto developed his own typological design approach. As Wolfsburg church was designed in his prime of time, it showed the origin and evolutionary process of religious architecture as well as general features of Aalto's design. Clustered site plan, dynamic space of interior, the adequate control of natural light are representative characteristics found in Aalto's religious architecture. Wolfsburg church also demonstrate these features in more specific way including the continuity of wall and ceiling that showed spatial dynamics, free opening of wall which reflects on functions, and careful adjust of natural light. As a result, Aalto showed his typological design strategy that added new design ideas to the accumulated design vocabularies in the design of Wolfsburg church.

  • A study on the development of material for a light weight partition wall using material of gypsum and waste paper is be considered to improve workability, setting time, properties of strength by use of $\beta$-Gypsum for controling setting time. According th the experiments, as quantity of gypsum in binder increase, workability and strength of specimens deteriorate. Appropriate quantity of $\beta$-Gypsum was 3~6% of binder and When it was used more than 10%, setting time was so fast. When additive quantity of waste paper has increased to 1%, flexural strength decreased to some 8~12% and density decreased abort 3% in comparison with otherwise specimen.

  • The resistance of crowd pressure is an important performance to be influential on safety of facility users among performances required for light weight walls of public facilities. This study has empirically evaluated the estimation of size of crowd pressure to be applied to a wall of structure. For the load analysis test, the force plate with stiffness of 28 kN/cm was designed and manufactured. For inspectors, 15 males in the age of 20s were selected. The action of putting load was set as instantaneous push of plate and continuous push. As the load was increased linearly from the weight of inspector, the size of load was indicated as the load ratio. In case of instantaneous force, about 1.18 times the weight of pushing personnel was acted as a load. In case of continuous push, about 0.80 times the weight of pushing personnel was acted as a load.

  • The supply and use of exhaust heat recovery ventilation system as effective energy saving equipment has been increasing steadily. The exhaust heat recovery ventilation system can be installed at ceiling of balcony or emergency space. However, ventilation system can not be installed at emergency space because where have to remain as empty space by law. Therefore, the proper installation space of ventilation system is needed. In this study, to install heat recovery ventilation system in the light weight wall, thickness of heat exchanger was assembled below 140 mm. One or two paper heat exchangers were installed in the ventilation system. The efficiency of heat recovery was analyzed through performance experiment on case of cooling and heating mode.

  • M-mode imaging of the in vivo murine myocardium using optical coherence tomography (OCT) is described. Application of conventional techniques (e.g. MRI, Ultrasound imaging) for imaging the murine myocardium is problematic because the wall thickness is less than 1.5 mm (20 g mouse), and the heart rate can be as high as six hundred beats per minute. To acquire a real-time image of the murine myocardium, OCT can provide sufficient spatial resolution ($10{\mu}m$) and imaging speed (1000 A-scans/s). Strong light scattering by blood in the heart causes significant light attenuation, which makes delineation of the endocardium-chamber boundary problematic. To measure the thickness change of the myocardium during one heart beat cycle, a myocardium edge detection algorithm is developed and demonstrated.

  • Recently, "The rules on the standards of evacuation and fire protection of buildings" require that non-burnable materials such as non-combustible and semi-non-combustible materials be used as the materials applied to the building's exterior walls, but styrofoam, which is a combustible material, has been applied a lot and became a social issue. In this study, we developed a non-combustible outer wall molding to secure construction and economic feasibility and free expression using CLC(CLC: Cellular Light-weight Concrete).

  • A study of light in Kahn's architecture must be significance as a work in building new architectural space and a new foundation for architecture, as well as clarification of the uniqueness of Kahn's architectural space and search for its significance. In addition, the study provides a greater comprehension of an the concept of Kahn's architecture by clarifying the degree of association of light into other concepts of architecture. Therefore, this study attempts to examine Louis I. Kahn's statement, sketch and work. His sketch along with the characteristics of the technique how to present it also enables comprehension of other aspects of architecture as a means to revive architecture. Khan's use of light enabled the evolution of primarily two types 'specular surface' and 'unique opening part' by associating them with the need to diminish glaringness. Each of these types has been evolved individually and is indicative of a concept of light that can be largely divided into ' object's light ' and ' space's light ' Object's light refers to a type in which the formative significance of structural part and different directions of light coexist, and its formative characteristics play a role that differentiate places within space. Space's light is present on wall spaces that limit space and exhibits its distinguished role differentiating places within space in the form of 'expression'.

  • The purpose of this study are to evaluate the dwelling quality of rural houses constructed with industrialized wall structures(ALC; Autoclaved Light weight Concrete, SRC; Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete, ST'L; Steel Framed Insulating Panel), and to establish a method of dwelling quality evaluation. The questionnaire survey by mail was done, for investigating the residents' responses to indoor environment, durability, and economic aspect. The respondents are 118 residents living in rural houses constructed with industrialized wall structures. Physical elements of indoor environment(temperature, humidity, air quality, and noise level) were measured in three sample houses, which were selected considering of architectural characteristics. The findings are as follows; 1) As a result of questionnaire survey, residents' responses to dwelling quality are generally positive. 2) As a result of measurement, indoor environments of sample houses are in relatively comfortable condition. 3) As a summary of research, ALC and ST'L are evaluated as recommendable structures for a rural house.

  • Most gasoline engines employ a port injection system to achieve the better fuel-air mixing. A part of injected fuels adheres to the wall or intake valve and forms a film of liquid fuel. The other is secondarily atomized by the spray-wall interaction. A better understanding of this interaction will help in designing injection systems and controlling the strategies to improve engine performance and exhaust emissions. In the present research, the spray-wall interaction was investigated by a laser sheet visualization method. The shape of sprays was pictured at various impinging velocities and angles. The fuel dispersion was estimated by fluorescence light, and the atomization was evaluated by the enlarged images of droplets. The experimental results were compared with model predictions which are based on OPT method. The model has been modified to have the better agreement with the experimental result, and was implemented in the KIVA-II code.

  • The stochiometric mixture of evaporating materials for the $ZnIn_2S_4$ single crystal thin film was prepared from horizontal furnace. To obtain the $ZnIn_2S_4$ single crystal thin film. $ZnIn_2S_4$ mixed crystal was deposited on throughly etched semi-insulating GaAs(100). In the Hot Wall Epitaxy(HWE) system. From the photocurrent spectrum by illumination of perpendicular light on the c-axis of the $ZnIn_2S_4$ single crystal thin film, we have found that the values of spin orbit splitting ${\Delta}So$ and the crystal field splitting ${\Delta}Cr$ were 0.0148 eV and 0.1678 eV at $10_{\circ}K$, respectively.
