  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the distribution structure and the logistics system of light petroleum products from the spatial perspectives. The consumption structure of petroleum products has been changed since the mid 1980s. The growth rate of consumption for light products has been much faster than those of heavy products. The distribution structure of the petroleum products is hierarchically established by refining companies, agencies, and gas stations. The petroleum products agencies are distributed unevenly over the country, and the number of gas stations per one petroleum agency are very differentiated by the region. The light products are directly transported from refining factories to oil storages and then are carried to gas stations. According to the locational characteristics, oil storages which play a key role in the logistics system are categorized into three type. The first type is demand-oriented oil storages which are located near or in the large cities to supply the light petroleum products. The second type is harbors-oriented oil storages which are located within harbors. The third type is railway-oriented oil storages which are located along railway stations. In this study, the thresholds of one oil storage and one gas station are calculated based on the size of supply territory for each oil storage. The average number of population demand that allow a oil storage to stay in business is 1.9 million and average number of cars are 477,200.

  • The stability of yellow and red dyes prepared from safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) in aqueous solution and in solid state was investigated. External factors such as light irradiation and temperature on the stability were examined during storage. Changes in absorbance of dye solutions and the color changes of fabrics dyed after long time storage were measured. Also, color reproducibility during storage was investigated by dyeing test on various fabrics. Red colorant in aqueous solution was very unstable to light, resulting that about 40% of absorbance were lost in 12hrs. The absorbance of yellow dye solutions was not decreased within 84hrs. In aqueous medium, yellow dye was much more stable than carthamin. Both dyes are relatively stable for long storage when they are stored in solid state compared to when in aqueous solution. Color changes are marginal in both dyes.

  • The effects of light exposure and light intensity on surface color of Hanwoo (Korean native cattle) beef and color stability of fresh normal and DFD (dark, firm, dry) muscles during 7 days at $4{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ under three display conditions (Dark, Light1000 and Light3000) were investigated. The $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$, $C^*$ values and R630-R580 were significantly (p<0.05) higher in normal beef than in DFD beef. The $a^*$, $b^*$, $c^*$ values and R630-R580 of normal beef increased during the first day of display except Light3000 group, then gradually decreased over time. The surfaces of Hanwoo beef accumulated more metmyoglobin in the light than in the dark. Also, the rate of decrease in redness during refrigerated storage was enhanced by light exposure and increase in light intensity. Discolorations were more rapid in DFD beef than normal beef. Increasing light intensity promoted not only discoloration but also lipid oxidation. Therefore storage in the dark is effective in retarding the formation of a brown color in Hanwoo beef.

  • The micro laser module was designed and prepared to deliver the light to the HAMR head. It consists of laser diode, photo diode and actuator to realize stable light delivery even though the head is fluctuated during the disk rotation. The optical evaluation was carried out with the actual distance between the light source and HAMR head with a range of reflectivity and it was found that the incident angle could be controlled within ${\pm}0.125^{\circ}$ to maintain same intensity into the HAMR head. It was also confirmed that the designed micro laser module is thermally stable without any severe effect on the magnetic head.

  • The effects of chlorophyll, tocopherols($\alpha$-tocopherol, ${\gamma}$-tocopherol and $\delta$-tocopherol), carotenoids ($\beta$-carotene and lutein), light sources, light intensities and strage temperatures on the photooxidative stability of soymilk were studied by measuring TBA value and depleted headspace oxygen(DHO) of soymilk. The samples were stored in the light storage box for 6 days and evaluated for the photooxidative stabilities. As the concentrations of chlorophyll increased, TBA value and DHO of the sample increased significantly(p<0.05), indicating chlorophyll acting as a photosensitizer. However, as the concentrations of tocopherols ($\alpha$-tocopherol, ${\gamma}$-tocopherol and $\delta$-tocopherol) and carotenoids ($\beta$-carotene and lutein) increased, TBA values and DHO of the samples decreased significantly(p<0.05). The light screening effects of carotenoids on DHO in the samples were not significantly different from the control at p>0.05. Therefore, there was no light screening effects of carotenoids on the oxidative stability of soymilk. The results indicate that tocopherols and carotenoids reduce the photooxidative stability of soymilk. $\delta$-Tocopherol was the most effective in photosensitized oxidation followed by ${\gamma}$-and $\alpha$-tocopherols in the order of increasing stability. $\beta$-Carotene was significantly(p<0.05) more effective than lutein in minimizing the chlorophyll-sensitized photooxidation of soymilk. Visible light was more effective than UV light in decreasing the photooxidative stability of soymilk. Therefore, photooxidation of soymilk containing chlorophyll is mainly due to photosensitized oxidation rather than photolysis reaction. As the intensities of fluorescence light increased, TBA values and DHO of the samples increased significantly at P<0.05. However, as the storage temperatures increased, TBA values and DHO of soymilk did not change significantly at p>0.05.

  • The effect of storage conditions on the oxidative stability of cholesterol in butter was studied by quantifying cholesterol oxides by GC-MS. Experimental variables for storage conditions were packaging, storage temperature, light source, and storage period. No cholesterol oxides were detected from packaged butter under all storage conditions. When unpackaged butter was stored under ultraviolet light at ambient temperature, $7{\alpha}-hydroxycholesterol,\;7{\beta}-hydroxycholesterol$, cholesterol ${\beta}-epoxide$, cholesterol ${\alpha}-epoxide$, cholestane-triol were detected after 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks of storage. The amounts of cholesterol oxide species produced were different depending on the storage periods. The amounts of each cholesterol oxides, $7{\alpha}-hydroxycholesterol,\;7{\beta}-hydroxycholesterol$, cholesterol ${\beta}-epoxide$, cholesterol ${\alpha}-epoxide$, and cholestane-triol, produced after 2 weeks of storage were 34.2, 14.0, 12.1, 1.30, and 0.50 ppm, respectively, and after 8 weeks of storage were 68.1, 29.1, 56,3, 8.50, and 4.00 ppm, respectively with trace amounts of 3,5-cholestadien-7-one. When fluorescent light was used instead of ultraviolet light with other conditions remained the same, the same species of cholesterol oxides were detected but with lesser amounts.

  • Thermally-assisted magnetic recording (TAMR) is a potentially promising approach to increase the storage density of hard disk drive (HDD). However, TAMR has some issues such as temperature effects, media problems, thermal deformation and light delivery. In this research, we focused on light delivery. One of the powerful methods to deliver the light from laser diode to recording medium is the use of an optical fiber and a specially designed prism. However, the TAMR with optical fiber may have some flyability problems induced by the mounted optical fiber and prism. Also, the TAMR suspension using an optical fiber has high vertical and pitch stiffness. Therefore, p-torque is greatly increased by the optical fiber. Also, flying height (FH) of the slider with TAMR suspension can be largely changed by p-torque. Therefore, in this paper, we focus on the pitch static attitude (PSA) tolerance and the FH by PSA of the TAMR suspension. The FH is investigated using various errors and the PSA tolerance for TAMR suspension is proposed.

  • Emulsion products with water soluble protein were exposed under light at $5^{\circ}C$ for 8 days. Peroxide value (POV) was increased significantly at the bigining of storage and 2-thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value also increased until 4 days of storage with increase of the production of carbonyl compounds, suggesting that the condition was reacted different from that of the lipid autoxidation. The reaction was similar to the flavor reversion that usually produced from the bigining of soybean oil oxidation. The reason might be the meat pigment, myoglobin, oxidation and it would be due to the singlet oxygen rather than superoxide anion. When the light was excluded general pattern was similar but the production of oxidation products were smaller than that when the sample was exposed under light. The effect of the singlet oxygen was also smaller which meant that the singlet oxygen produced during emulsion process may affect on the flavor reversion at the bigining of storage. The POV of the emulsion without water soluble protein increase gradually by storage and the results indicated that the degradation rate of the peroxides were lower than the sample with water soluble protein. Especially after 4 days of storage, production of carbonyl compounds were decreased. During storage it would be possible to produce the singlet oxygen and the sensitizer from the plants that can be produced during decoloration of soybean oil may be responsible for it. When the light was excluded the production of oxidation products were reduced at the begining of storage and the effect of quencher also was not detected. Therefore the results indicated that the light can accelerate the lipid oxidation.

  • Harvested de-astringent persimmon 'Fuyu' were treated with various lighting sources under low (3℃) and high (22℃) temperatures. The weight loss rate of fruits was lower in those with Red LED than Fluorescence and Blue LED under both temperature conditions. Hardness and soluble solid content of fruits were higher in those with 3℃ / Blue LED or mixed LED (Blue+Red LEDs). Beta-carotene and lycopene content of fruit peel were higher in those with 3℃ than 22℃ and with Red LED or light sources with mixed red wavelength under both temperatures. When the fruits treated with light and temperature were stored for 4 days under 3℃ / dark condition, the hardness of the fruits did not significant difference among the treatments. Taken together all the results, it would be best to treat it light sources mixed red wavelength under 3℃.
