One of the most important aspect of esthetic dentistry is shade selection. Alterations to perception of color can occur as a result of numerous factors, including light source, tooth surface texture, observer's ability, surrounding colors, the angle of observation, light and dark adaptation and others. During the clinical procedures, tooth might be in dry or semi-dry condition. The purpose of this study was to compare the shade changes in wet and dry conditions of natural tooth. Groups of measurement are an initial wet condition as control, dry in 10seconds, 1 minute, 5minutes and 30seconds air dry. Using Shadeeye, color difference(${\Delta}E$) between measurements were analyzed and there were significant differences between groups. But most of the differneces were <3.7 ${\Delta}E$ unit. Such differences are below the threshold for perceivable color mismathces in intraoral condition. Shade selection with an intraoral colorimeter could be changes in dry and wet condition but there might be no significant differences in visual color mathing.

As a fundamental research for the development of pumpkin products, the changes of carotenoids were investigated in hot air dried pumpkin powder packed in PE/nylon film during storage at 2$0^{\circ}C$ under the dark and bright conditions. Total amounts of carotenoids in the dehydrated pumpkin powder were reduced by 65~70 percentage without effect of light after one month. The carotenoids of pumpkin powder were separated to five spots without effect of light by TLC, but difference of color was not significant throughout the storage period. By the analysis of HPLC, leutin, under bright condition, was increased from 15 days of storage but under dark condition it was not changed for one month. Meanwhile, p-carotene, under bright condition, was decreased from 15 days of storage but under drak condition it was decreased from 25 days. The contents of lycopene and $\alpha$ -carotene did not show any significant change throughout the storage period. In color analysis, yellowness value was de- creased in bright as well as dark condition from 10 day storage.

In this study, the wear characteristics of five different dental composite resins cured by conventional halogen light and LED light sources were investigated. Five different dental composite resins of Surefil, Z100, Dyract AP, Fuji II LC and Compoglass were worn against a zirconia ceramic ball using a pin-on-disk type wear tester with 15 N contact force in a reciprocal sliding motion of sliding distance of 10 mm/cycle at 1Hz under the room temperature dry condition. The wear variations of dental composite resins were linearly increased as the number of cycles increased. It was observed that the wear resistances of these specimens were in the order of Dyract AP > Surefil > Compoglass > Z100 > Fuji II LC. On the morphological observations by SEM, the large crack formation on the sliding track of Fuji ?LC specimen was the greatest among all resin composites. Dyract AP showed less wear with few surface damage. There is no significant difference in wear performance between conventional halogen light curing and light emitting diodes curing sources. It indicates that a light emitting diodes (LED) source can replace a halogen light source as curing unit for composite resin restorations.

Smart farm is a high-tech type of plant factory that artificially makes environmental conditions suitable for the growth of plants and manages them to automatically produce the desired plants regardless of seasons or space. This study was conducted by identifying the effects of Hertz and Duty ratio on the photosynthetic rate of ginseng, a medicinal crop, to find the optimal conditions for photosynthetic responses in smart farms. The light sources consisted of a total of 10 chambers using LED system, with 4 R+B(red+blue) mixed lights and 6 R+B+W (red+blue+white) mixed lights. In addition, the Hertz of the R+B mixed light was treated at 20, 60, 180, 540, 1620 and 4860 hz respectively. The R+B+W mixed light was treated with 60, 180, 540, and 1620 hz. Afterwards, experiments were conducted with the duty ratio of 30, 50, and 70%. As a result, the photosynthetic rate of ginseng according to duty ratio and Hertz was the highest at 60 hz when duty ratio was set to 50%. On the other hand, that was the lowest when the duty ratio was 30% at the same 60 hz. In addition, the photosynthetic rates were highest in the R+B mixed light and R+B+W mixed light at 60 hz. Therefore, the condition with the highest photosynthetic rate of ginseng in smart farms is 60 hz when the duty ratio in R+B mixed light is 50%.

The purpose of this study was to determine optimum wavelength, light intensity, aeration rate, and temperature for the cultivation of Dunaliella salina illuminated by various types of light emitting diode. Growth rates of Dunaliella salina were faster at higher temperature than the growth rate at lower temperature. Among the culturing temperatures, $22^{\circ}C$ was the optimum temperature for the growth of Dunaliella salina. White LED was the most efficient light source and lower light intensity (3,000 Lux) resulted in better biomass production (1.30 g/L). The value of aeration varied between 0 and 2.4 vvm at the illumination of 3,000 Lux of white light emitting diode. Highest specific growth rate of $1.12day^{-1}$ was obtained at no-aeration and lower specific growth rates were obtained for other aeration tests, which indicated that aeration could be harmful for the cultivation of Dunaliella salina.
BACKGROUND: Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with lower electric cost and the specific wavelength have been considering as a novel light source for plant production in greenhouse conditions as well as in a closed culture system. Supplementary lighting for day-length extension was considered as light intensity, light quality, and/or photoperiod control on plant growth and development. Effects of supplementary blue or red LED radiation with lower light intensity on growth of Ageratum (Ageratum houstonianum Mill., cv. Blue Field), African marigold (Tagetes erecta L., cv. Orange Boy), and Salvia (Salvia splendens F. Sello ex Ruem & Schult., cv. Red Vista) were discussed during sunrise and sunset twilight in the experiment. METHODS AND RESULTS: Supplementary lighting by blue and red LEDs for 30 (Treatment B30; R30) or 60 (Treatment B60; R60) min. per day were established in greenhouse conditions. Photosynthetic photon flux for supplementary radiation was kept at $15{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$ on the culture bed. Natural condition without supplementary light was considered as a control. The highest shoot and root dry weights were shown in African marigold exposed by red light for 60 min. per day. Supplementary blue and red lighting regardless of the radiation time significantly stimulated development of lateral branches in African marigold. Stem growth in Ageratum and Salvia seedlings was significantly promoted by red radiation as well as natural light. CONCLUSIONS: Extending of the radiation time at sunrise and sunset twilight using LEDs stimulated reproductive growth of flowering plant species. Different characteristics on growth under supplementary blue or red lighting conditions were also observed in the seedlings during supplementary radiation.
Light-emitting-diodes (LEDs) are a lighting source useful for the precise evaluation of light quality effect on biological systems. Despite the importance of light spectra on the regeneration of land plant protoplasts ("naked cells"), this factor has not been tested yet on protoplasts from multicellular algae. This study reports on the effects of pure primary colors (red, blue, and green), dichromatic (red plus blue, RB, 1 : 2) and white LEDs on protoplast regeneration from male and female Undaria pinnatifida gametophytes. We also evaluated the effect of different light spectra on pigment composition (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll c, and fucoxanthine), and the light intensities under the best condition on the regeneration process. In the early stages, blue or RB LEDs increased the percentage of dividing female protoplasts, whereas red, blue, and RB LEDs enhanced that of dividing male protoplasts. In the later stages, RB LEDs showed a positive effect only on the percentage of multiple rhizoid-like protrusions (male gametophyte). They also increased the final area of both regenerated gametophytes. The LEDs did not affect pigment composition in female gametophytes. In male gametophytes, in contrast, they reduced chlorophyll c, while blue, RB, and green LEDs decreased fucoxanthin. Under RB LEDs, the optimal light intensity was 80 µmol photons m-2 s-1 for female gametophytes and 40 to 60 µmol photons m-2 s-1 for male gametophytes. Our results suggest that dichromatic LED illumination (red-blue) improves regeneration of U. pinnatifida gametophyte-isolated protoplasts. Thus, dichromatic LEDs might a suitable light source for enhancing protoplast regeneration in brown seaweeds.

This research investigated the effect of photo/dark period and relative humidity during dark period on the growth and quality of water dropwort in a closed-type plant factory system. At 30 days after planting, the shoot fresh weight of water dropwort under relative humidity of 60/90%(light/dark) treatment significantly higher than that under relative humidity of 60/60% treatment. The shoot fresh weight of water dropwort increased by extending light period under relative humidity of 60/60% treatment, but 16/8h photo/dark period showed the best shoot fresh weight, followed by 20/4h and 22/2h under relative humidity of 60/90% treatment. In the relative humidity of 60/90% treatment, the tipburn occurrence was reduced under 16/8h photo/dark period condition as 1.4%, whereas it was significantly increased under 20/4h and 22/2h of relatively long light time duration as 15.5% and 30.3%, respectively. In the relative humidity of 60/60% treatment, the tipburn occurrence was 15.5% under 16/8h photo/dark period condition and those under 20/4h and 22/2h photo/dark period condition were higher than 25%. The stem hardness of water dropwort was lowest in relative humidity of 60/90% and 16/8h photo/dark period treatment. The mineral contents of leaves were decreased by extending light period, but the contents of Ca were not different significantly among the treatments except the 60/60% and 22/2h treatment.
