Cycling life prediction method of the filament-wound composite cylinders with metal liner (Type 3 복합재 압력용기의 반복수명 예측 방법에 대한 연구)

  • In manufacturing process of composite cylinders with metal liner, the autofrettage process which induces compressive residual stress on liner to improve cycling life can be applied. In this study, finite element analysis technique is presented, which can predict accurately the compressive residual stress on liner induced by autofrettage and stress behavior after. Material and geometry non-linearity is considered in finite element analysis, and the Von-Mises stress of a liner is introduced as a key parameter that determines pressure cycling life of composite cylinders. Presented methodology is verified through fatigue test of liner material and pressure cycling test of composite cylinders.

  • Fatigue life estimation by the theoretical stress concentration factors are, in general, considerably different from test results. And in calculating stress concentration factor, it is very difficult to consider actual geometry and material property which are the notch shapes, imperfections or defects of materials such as porosities inclusions and casting defects, etc. Therefore, the paper deals with the experimental method to find out the more exact stress concentration factors by measuring the strain distributions on each specimen by 3D-ESPI(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry) System. Then the fatigue lives are compared between theoretical calculations using stress concentration factors determined by 3D-ESPI system and fatigue test results.

  • Various CAE technologies are used in automobile industries for the purpose of design and analysis. In this paper, a fatigue life evaluation system FLEVA based on the local strain approach is developed and the system is applied for the fatigue strength design of the suspension knuckle, an automobile component. Various steps such as material test, finite element analysis and cumulative fatigue damage analysis of the suspension knuckle were taken. The usefulness of the approach was verified by the fatigue test on the suspension knuckle.

Factors Influencing Parenting Self-efficacy in Grandmothers Raising Infant and Toddler (영유아를 돌보는 조모의 양육효능감에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify degrees of factors influencing parenting self-efficacy in grandmother raising infant and toddler. Method: A convenience sample of 121 grandmothers whose grandchild was between 3 to 36 months old was used. The variables were health status, health problems and life event. The data were collected through a questionnaire survey and descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA with Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression were used to analyze using SPSS WIN 12.0. Results: The average score for parenting self-efficacy was 39.39(SD=5.09), somewhat higher than moderate in level. Factor that was significant in influencing parenting self-efficacy was life event. This factors accounted for 14.6% of explained variance. Conclusions: It was found that the life event was influenced to parenting self-efficacy in grandmothers raising infant and toddler. From this study it is proposed that there is a need to develop programs and policies which support them. Ultimately a good care environment for children will be good for the young children's growth and development.

Validating the Applicability of a Simplified Correlation Method for Economic Evaluation of Cooling Plants (냉방열원기기의 경제성 평가를 위한 간이계산법의 적용성 검토)

  • In the previous research, a simplified correlation method was developed as an easy prediction tool for comparing energy use of cooling plants. The purpose of this paper is to test the applicability of this method for economic evaluation with two zones of a 20-story commercial building in Seoul. The results of this method were compared with the DOE-2 simulation and actual measured data. Then, Comparisons of life cycle cost were carried out for three types of cooling plants. Testing of one zone showed good agreement of within 10% error in cooling energy use and within 2% error in LCC. But testing of the other zone indicated that the use of this method were invalid when input variables were used beyond its valid range.

  • The inherent reliability of a product is primarily determined in the design stage, and therefore, design engineers should be able to design reliability into the product in an efficient manner. Especially, the product should be designed such that its reliability is robust to various noise factors encountered in production and field environments. The Taguchi method can be effectively used for this purpose. However, there exist only a few attempts to integrate the Taguchi method with reliability design, and in addition, the existing works do not sufficiently consider the robustness and/or the distinction between noise and acceleration factors. This paper develops a unified approach to robust reliability design assuming that accelerated life tests are conducted at each combination of design and noise conditions. First, an experimental structure for assigning not only acceleration but also noise factors is presented. Second, the reliability at the use condition is estimated using the assumed accelerated life test model. Third, reliabilities are transformed into 'efforts' using an effort function which reflects the degree of difficulty involved in improving the reliability. Finally, an optimal setting of design parameters is determined based on the mean and standard deviation of the effort values. The above approach is illustrated with an example of a paper feeder design.

A Study on Improving Reliability of Durability Life Estimation for Excavator Fuel Tank Mounting Using Equivalent S-N Curve Method (등가 S-N 선도 모형에서의 굴착기 연료탱크 마운팅부 내구수명 예측 신뢰성 향상 방안 연구)

  • It is challenging to estimate the fatigue life of construction equipment consisting of a welded joint using field structure test owing to the uncertainty of the S-N curve. IIW recommends different S-N curves for various welded joint types. However, there is no way to define an appropriate curve considering complex design shape and strain gauge characteristics. This paper proposes an equivalent S-N curve method based on the relationship between IIW effective notch stress and virtual stress using finite element analysis. Moreover, a case study was conducted for the excavator fuel tank. The proposed method is expected to enhance accuracy and consistency in calculating the fatigue life for the welded structure of construction equipment.

  • The swing motion drive unit of a hybrid excavator is composed of an electrical motor instead of a hydraulic motor that is used in hydraulic excavators. The method to assess and guarantee the reliability of a hybrid excavator should consider combining the mechanical and the electrical failure mode effects. In particular, the swing reduction gear set of a hybrid excavator is operated under severe outdoor conditions; therefore, an accelerated life test, which is based on field operating condition, should be conducted for the newly developed reduction gear set. In this study, various qualitative methods for reliability engineering, such as FMMA, FMECA, FTA, and QFD, were used to develop the accelerated life test method for the swing drive reduction gear set for the hybrid excavator.

The Effect of Tai Chi Exercise in Elderly Women (여성노인에 대한 타이치 운동의 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of Tai Chi exercise program on pain, fatigue, depression, self-efficacy, and quality of life in elderly women. Method: A quasi-experimental design, a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest was the method of this study. Elderly women who agreed to participate in the study were conveniently placed into an experimental group (n=33) or an control group (n=34). The experimental group participated in Tai Chi exercise program, which was held for 60 minutes per session and 3 times a week for 8 weeks. Tai Chi exercise program consisted of a 10 minute warm-up, a 45 minute main session, and a 5 minute cooling down. In order to evaluate the effects of Tai Chi exercise program, pain, fatigue, depression, self-efficacy, and quality of life were measured with a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, t- test, and ANCOVA by SPSS WIN 13.0 program. Results: Compared with the control group, the experimental group reported higher level of quality of life (F=7.67, p=.007) and self-efficacy (F=20.9, p=.000) and lower level of pain (F=10.93, p= .002), fatigue (F=6.28, p=.015), and depression (F=10.02, p=.002). Conclusions: This study suggests that Tai Chi exercise program may be one of the effective nursing interventions for elderly women.

Creep Damage Evaluation of High-Temperature Pipeline Material for Fossil Power Plant by Ultrasonic Test Method (초음파에 의한 발전소 고온배관재료의 크리프손상 평가)

  • Boiler high-temperature pipelines such as main steam pipe, header and steam drum in fossil power plants are degraded by creep damage due to severe operationg conditions which are high temperature and high pressure for an extended period time. Such material degradation leads to various component failures causing serious accidents at the plants. Conventional measurement techniques such as replica method, electric resistance method, and hardness test method have such disadvantages as complex preparation and measurement procedures, too many control parameters, and therefore, low practicality and they were applied only to component surfaces with good accessibility. In this paper, artificial creep degradation test and ultrasonic measurement for their creep degraded specimens have been carried out for the purpose of evaluation for creep damage which can occur in high-temperature pipeline of fossil power plant. Absolute measuring method of quantitative ultrasonic measurement for material degradation was established, and long term creep degradationtests using life prediction formula were carried out. As a result of ultrasonic tests for crept specimens, we confirmed that the sound velocity decreased and the attenuation coefficient linearly increased in proportion to the increase of creep fractiin(${\phi}$c).
