  • Background: Sexual health and function frequently are overlooked by healthcare professionals despite being identified as an essential aspect of patient care. Patients with cancer have identified sexuality issues as being of equal importance to other quality-of-life issues. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the views and attitudes of oncology nurses caring for cancer patients regarding sexual counseling. Participants and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on the web site of the Turkish Oncology Nurses Association. With the participation of 87 nurses from oncology departments, the study determined that most nurses do not evaluate and counsel patients regarding their sexual problems and many difficulties prevent them from focussing on sexual health. The most important reasons for ignoring sexual counseling were the absence of routine regarding sexual counseling in oncology departments, the belief that the patient may become ashamed and the nurses' self-evaluation that they have insufficient skills and education to counsel in this subject. Conclusions: The most important variables in sexual evaluation and counseling are long years of service in the profession and a postgraduate degree.

  • Socialization of doctoral students refers to the process through which they acquire various types of information about their work, department, university, and discipline for their future careers. This study aims to investigate information behaviors, with emphasis on identifying types of information exchanged in mentoring between faculty advisors and their doctoral students in library and information science (LIS). As a first step to developing a content framework for LIS doctoral mentoring, the author interviewed ten LIS doctoral students from nine U.S. universities. Based on data from these interviews, the author identified sixteen types of information exchanged: language, history, coursework, research, skills, teaching, networking, structure, politics, goals, strategies, values, norms/tradition, rules/policies, benefits, and personal life. In comparison with a content framework used, four dimensions were newly added. In addition to the identification of content dimensions, the author observed four meaningful contextual levels to which the content types can be applied: work, department/school, university, and discipline. The qualitative data also showed that interpersonal factors of advisees/advisors and contextual factors might relate to information exchange in doctoral mentoring. In a following paper, the author will present the results of a follow-up survey that tests and generalizes the findings of this study.

Teachers from schools with dental clinics had a higher recognition rate of the purpose of tooth brushing and the fluoride caries preventive effect than teachers from schools without dental clinics. However, there was no significant difference between schools with and without dental clinics when we compared the daily tooth brushing frequency and oral health attitude. There is also need of a school dental clinic program for teachers because if teachers lack knowledge and professionalism of oral health it will affect the student's oral health attitudes.

Methods: The data were collected through in-depth interviews of five hemodialysis patients who have been dialyzed for one year or longer. The data analysis was conducted using the Giorgi's phenomenological method. Results: The findings included six constituents and 13 sub-constituents. The six constituents were 'prompt and skillful response to mitigate distress', 'careful attention to provide relief', 'individualized education to promote self-management', 'an intimate relationship to regain isolated ego', 'warmhearted support to encourage strength to live in a exhausting life', and 'providing of comfortable environment to maintain stability'. Conclusion: From the perspective of the hemodialysis patients, the concept of good nursing should stem from the integration of nurses' scientific knowledge, expert skills, and moral sensitivity. The finding suggests that strategies to develop nursing interventions for hemodialysis patients will be required on the basis of understanding of their sociocultural contexts and familism.

  • Three planks of the Triangular position theory was first introduced by Sanghallon(傷寒論) authored by Jang Gi. It is the regulation for the matter of diagnosis of three different clinical symptoms in the causes of exogenous disease. It brought two questions to the scientists. First question is what are the Wind stroke(中風), Affection by cold(傷寒) and the complex form of Wind stroke(中風) and Affection by cold(傷寒) mentioned in Sanghallon. It is related to the theoretical analysis of the causes for the outbreaks of exogenous disease. Second question is what are the characteristics of symptoms to use Gyejitang, Mahwangtang, Daecheongnyongtang according to Sanghallon? It is the matter of clinical skills for dispensing a prescription. Through the theoretically and empirically deepening processes for last two millenniums, those two questions brought us two more problems further. That is, how and by what processes the Six vital substances for humal life outbreaks disease as a energy transformation? And, how the individual peculiarities of human body as a disease container should be treated? In conclusion, it is also a matter of the existence of dialectic medical science.
