Factors affecting to the Physical Fatigues in Middl and High School Students (일부 도시지역 중학생과 고등학생의 피로도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to set up the basic model to monitor the health status of the middle and high school students in the adolescent period, as well as to provide the fundamental data which might serve as the new standards for their better health maintenance and promotion. The collected data comprised the characteristics of the subjects in the three different fields of life such as school, family and everyday, which could affect their physical fatigues, and they were analyzed to determine the factors of significant influence upon their physical fatigues and to reveal their relativity. A total of 5,954 students at 6 boys' and girls' middle and high schools in Taejon City completed self-administered questionnaires(to measure Health Practice Index and others) asking about each of three life domains during the period March through June, 2000. The key study results were as follows; 1. The middle school students showed more subjective symptoms of fatigue which may be a marker reflecting physical health status, than the high school students. The higher scores were associated, based on school life, with the groups who were boys, who were in lower school grades, who achieved better academic performances and had better relationship with friends. 2. As for family life, the higher scores were in the groups whose financial conditions were better, whose parents showed more interest to their children, whose sense of satisfaction with family life was higher, and whose health status was better. 3. As for life styles, the individuals showed the higher scores in the groups who had breakfasts daily, who didn't have inter-meal snacks, who took regular exercises, who didn't smoke and drink than, their counterparts. 4. The higher level of fatigue was associated with the groups whose health conditions were good, who are satisfied with school life, who were boys rather than girls, who are satisfied with family life, who didn't have inter-meal snacks, who were in good relationship with friends, who achieved greater academic performances, who took regular exercises, who didn't smoke, and whose parents showed more interest in their children.

A Study on the Change of household-Economy incidental to the Family Life Cycle. (가정생활 주기에 따른 가계변동에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to present basic data for a reasonable home management through investigating the change of home economy conditions incidental to the family life cycle, also through analyzing the effect of socio-anthropological variables on the family-life cycle. The data investigation using the questionnaires method was conducted on housewives in Seoul as the central census tract. Housewives as the subject of investigation were chosen by the method of the purpose-sampling in consideration of the regional differences and the socio-economical strata. Nine hundred and forty questionnaires were distributed to housewives but seven hundred questionnaires were collected. Only five hundred and ten questionnaires of them were analyzed in this study. The frequency and the percentage of collected data, first of all, were founded in order to grasp the general characteristics of the subject of investigation. To classify the stage of family life cycle, the correlations of the classifying factors among each group were examined x2 Test and One-Way ANOVA were applied to explore the differences among each stage of the change of household-economy. And the effect of socio-anthropological variables on the change of household- economy was analyzed by Two-way ANOVA. the conclusions derived from the results of this study are as follows; 1) The marriage-period and the educational conditions of the first child were selected as the classifying factors through analyzing correlation among the age, the marriage-period and the educational conditions of their children. As a result of this analysis, the family life cycle were classified into seven stages: Stage 1; Establishment Stage 2; Preschool family Stage 3; Elementary school family stage 6; Adult period family Stage7; Marriage period family . 2) The change of household economy incidental to the progress of family life cycle has a significant differences in all of variables (except the other member of family's income) Stage 1; Though the husband's income and the income from property are on a low level, the total income is on a high level due to the housewife's income. Stage 2; The total income is on a low level owing to the decrease of house wife's income, though the husband's income keep growing. Stage 3; Owing to the increase of husband's income, the cost of living as well as the total income keeps growing but the savings are on the decrease. Stage 4; Compared with Stage 3, the total income tends to be on a low level but the living expenses are on the increase. Stage 5; The husband's income is on the highest level in the stages of family life cycle. The total income and the living expenses are on a high level. Stage 6; The income of husband and housewife are on the remarkable decrease but the children's income is on the increase. Stage 7; Owing to the increase of the children's income and the income from property, the total income is on the highest level in the stages of family life cycle. 3) Considering the effect of socio-anthropological variables on the conditions of household-economy, family system has an significant effect on children's income. the husband's occupation exerts a significant effect upon the housewife's and children's income. The husband's schooling exercises an effect upon the children's income. S.E.S has a important effect on the income of husband, housewife and children. From the above results, it is found that the change of household-economy conditions is incidental to the progress of family life cycle. Therefore, a suitable measure to cope with the desire of family and the conditions of household-economy should be prepared, in order to carry on a reasonable home management.

Optimal Roasting Conditions for Maximizing the Quality of Tea Leached from High Functional Perilla frutescens Leaves (고기능성 들깻잎을 이용한 침출차의 품질 극대화를 위한 최적 볶음조건 연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the optimal roasting conditions for developing perilla leaf leached tea, which has high functional Perilla frutescens leaves. The roasting processes were carried out with variations in roasting temperature ($120-200^{\circ}C$) and roasting time (15-35 min), the response surface methodology was applied to monitor the changes in qualities of the roasted Perilla frutescens leaves. The antioxidant, bioactive substance in roasted Perilla frutescens leaves, and their extracts were the quality parameters. The total polyphenol and total flavonoid contents increased with time and temperature up to 25 min and $160^{\circ}C$. Antioxidative activities showed a positive correlation with the amount of phenolic compound. Caffeic acid and rosmarinic acid contents increased with time up to a mild temperature, $160^{\circ}C$, while they decreased at high temperatures over $160^{\circ}C$. The optimum roasting conditions selected for developing perilla leaf leached tea were thus $180^{\circ}C$ and 20 min, given the conditions in the above experiments.

Accelerated Life Testing and Validity Evaluation of Finger Strips Used for Electromagnetic Shielding Doors (전자파 차폐 도어용 핑거 스트립의 가속수명시험 및 유효성 평가)

  • Many persons and electronic devices are exposed to electromagnetic (EM) waves generated from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment, EM pulses (EMPs), and many other kinds of EM wave devices. Finger strips are used to provide shielding from these EM waves. Because of the high thermal conductivity of finger strips, they are used in the design of specialized doors that are installed in shielded rooms. In this study, we perform an accelerated life test using the load acceleration stress, which affects the main failure mode of finger strips. We predict the life of the finger strip under normal usage conditions based on the results of the accelerated life test. We compare the results with those predicted from the life test under normal usage conditions to evaluate the validity of accelerated life testing.

Determination of Shelf Life for Butter and Cheese Products in Actual and Accelerated Conditions

  • The aim of this study was to estimate the shelf life of butter and cheese products, with shelf life being a guide used to determine the storage period of food before deterioration. Butter and cheese samples stored at $10^{\circ}C$ and $15^{\circ}C$ had a shelf life of 221 d, while those stored at $25^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$ had a shelf life of 109 d. Quality changes, including total cell count, coliform counts, Listeria monocytogenes counts, acid value, moisture content, pH, acidity and overall sensory evaluation, were monitored. In order to pass the overall sensory evaluation, a quality score of 5 points on a 9-point scale was required. For other quality criteria, legal quality limits were established based on the "Process Criteria and Ingredient Standard of Livestock Products" by the Animal, Plant and Fisheries Quarantine and Inspection Agency (Republic of Korea). The nonlegal quality limit was estimated by regression analysis between non-quality criteria (y) and overall sensory evaluation (x). The shelf life was estimated based on the number of days that the product passed the quality limit of the quality criteria. The shelf life of samples stored at $10^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$ was 21.94, 17.18, 6.10 and 0.58 mon, respectively, for butter and 10.81, 9.47, 4.64 and 0.20 mon, respectively, for cheese.

A Study on the Reliability Prediction about ECM of Packaging Substrate PCB by Using Accelerated Life Test (가속수명시험을 이용한 Packaging Substrate PCB의 ECM에 대한 신뢰성 예측에 관한 연구)

  • As information-oriented industry has been developed and electronic devices has come to be smaller, lighter, multifunctional, and high speed, the components used to the devices need to be much high density and should have find pattern due to high integration. Also, diverse reliability problems happen as user environment is getting harsher. For this reasons, establishing and securing products and components reliability comes to key factor in company's competitiveness. It makes accelerated test important to check product reliability in fast way. Out of fine pattern failure modes, failure of Electrochemical Migration(ECM) is kind of degradation of insulation resistance by electro-chemical reaction, which it comes to be accelerated by biased voltage in high temperature and high humidity environment. In this thesis, the accelerated life test for failure caused by ECM on fine pattern substrate, $20/20{\mu}m$ pattern width/space applied by Semi Additive Process, was performed, and through this test, the investigation of failure mechanism and the life-time prediction evaluation under actual user environment was implemented. The result of accelerated test has been compared and estimated with life distribution and life stress relatively by using Minitab software and its acceleration rate was also tested. Through estimated weibull distribution, B10 life has been estimated under 95% confidence level of failure data happened in each test conditions. And the life in actual usage environment has been predicted by using generalized Eyring model considering temperature and humidity by developing Arrhenius reaction rate theory, and acceleration factors by test conditions have been calculated.

Impact of Storage Stability on Soybean (Glycine max L.) Flour Stored in Different Conditions and Package Materials

  • Soybean (Glycine max L.), a major part of Asian diet, is consumed primarily for its nutritional value. However, poor storage stability often leads to loss of nutritional value or deterioration in quality. This study focused on the storage stability of soy flour obtained from raw and roasted "Saedanbaek" soybeans packed in polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PPE) film bags that were stored at $4^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $45^{\circ}C$ for 48 weeks. The early acid values (diene and p-anisidine) of raw soybean flour (RSF) at high temperature (HT) were higher than those at refrigerated temperature (RFT) and room temperature (RT) during 48 and 12 to 36 weeks, respectively. In the case of roasted soybean flour (ROSF), which was stored at RFT and RT, the acid and conjugated diene values gradually increased after 24 weeks. In RSF, the peroxide value increased since the beginning of the $24^{th}$ week. The p-anisidine value also increased during 12 to 36 weeks but was much lower than the values obtained from HT storage. As the peroxide values decreased, the p-anisidine values increased, indicating an inverse relationship. Lipoxygenase activity of ROSF at all storage conditions was lower than RSF. Several differences were observed between the packing materials used. This study could, therefore, provide useful information for the industrial use of soybean flour (SF).

Allelic Distribution of OsPRR37, a Major Heading Date Gene in Korean Rice Cultivars

  • Rice is a major food crop consumed by approximately half of the world's population. Heading date is one of the major agronomic traits and has a wide impact on the productivity and quality of rice. Recently, shortening the growth period of rice through modulating heading date has been emphasized as one of the most effective strategies for reducing methane emissions from paddy fields. OsPRR37, a major heading date gene in rice, represses flowering under both short-day and long-day conditions. Plants carrying the loss-of-function alleles of OsPRR37 have been reported to flower approximately seven days and 20 days earlier than those carrying the functional alleles in short day and long day conditions, respectively. In this study, we investigated the nucleotide sequence variation existing in the exonic regions of OsPRR37 and catalogued the allelic distribution in 208 Korean rice cultivars. We used four sets of primers for amplifying and sequencing the eight exons of OsPRR37. As a result, two types of loss-of-function alleles and four types of functional alleles were found in 208 Korean rice cultivars. Interestingly, only three cultivars (Jinbuolbyeo, Jinseolchal, and Mimyeon) carried loss-of-function alleles while 205 carried functional alleles, indicating that OsPRR37 loss-of-function alleles have been used very rarely in Korean rice breeding programs. To generate useful information for the development of early-maturing rice cultivars, our future work will focus on analyzing the effect of different OsPRR37 alleles on heading date and other major agronomic traits.
