  • The underlying field is of characteristic $p$ > 2. In this paper, we first use the method of computing the homogeneous derivations to determine the first cohomology of the so-called odd contact Lie algebra with coefficients in the even part of the generalized Witt Lie superalgebra. In particular, we give a generating set for the Lie algebra under consideration. Finally, as an application, the derivation algebra and outer derivation algebra of the Lie algebra are completely determined.

  • Let $\mathcal{A}$ be a factor von Neumann algebra with dimension greater than 1. We prove that if a linear map ${\delta}:\mathcal{A}{\rightarrow}\mathcal{A}$ satisfies $${\delta}([[a,b],c])=[[{\delta}(a),b],c]+[[a,{\delta}(b),c]+[[a,b],{\delta}(c)]$$ for any $a,b,c{\in}\mathcal{A}$ with ab = 0 (resp. ab = P, where P is a fixed nontrivial projection of $\mathcal{A}$), then there exist an operator $T{\in}\mathcal{A}$ and a linear map $f:\mathcal{A}{\rightarrow}\mathbb{C}I$ vanishing at every second commutator [[a, b], c] with ab = 0 (resp. ab = P) such that ${\delta}(a)=aT-Ta+f(a)$ for any $a{\in}\mathcal{A}$.

  • Let R be a prime ring with center Z and characteristic different from two, U a nonzero Lie ideal of R such that $u^2{\in}U$ for all $u{\in}U$ and $d$ be a nonzero (${\sigma}$, ${\tau}$)-derivation of R. We prove the following results: (i) If $[d(u),u]_{{\sigma},{\tau}}$ = 0 or $[d(u),u]_{{\sigma},{\tau}}{\in}C_{{\sigma},{\tau}}$ for all $u{\in}U$, then $U{\subseteq}Z$. (ii) If $a{\in}R$ and $[d(u),a]_{{\sigma},{\tau}}$ = 0 for all $u{\in}U$, then $U{\subseteq}Z$ or $a{\in}Z$. (iii) If $d([u,v])={\pm}[u,v]_{{\sigma},{\tau}}$ for all $u{\in}U$, then $U{\subseteq}Z$.

  • This paper is a survey on the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of the Jensen functional equation in $C^*$-algebras. The concept of Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability originated from the Th.M. Rassias' stability theorem that appeared in his paper: On the stability of the linear mapping in Banach spaces, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 72 (1978), 297-300. Its content is divided into the following sections: 1. Introduction and preliminaries. 2. Approximate isomorphisms in $C^*$-algebras. 3. Approximate isomorphisms in Lie $C^*$-algebras. 4. Approximate isomorphisms in $JC^*$-algebras. 5. Stability of derivations on a $C^*$-algebra. 6. Stability of derivations on a Lie $C^*$-algebra. 7. Stability of derivations on a $JC^*$-algebra.

  • In this paper we give an introduction to the theory of universal central extensions of perfect Lie algebras. In particular, we will provide a model for the universal coverings of Lie tori and we show that automorphisms and derivations lift to the universal coverings. We also prove that the universal covering of a Lie ${\Lambda}$-torus of type ${\Delta}$ is again a Lie ${\Lambda}$-torus of type ${\Delta}$.

  • The purpose of this paper is to show that every generalized Jordan derivation of prime ring with characteristic not two is a generalized derivation on a nonzero Lie ideal U of R such that $u^2{\in}U\;for\;{\forall}u{\in}U$ which is a generalization of the well-known result of I. N. Herstein.

  • In this paper, we obtain the general solution and the generalized Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability for a following functional equation $$\sum\limits_{i=1}^mf(x_i+\frac{1}{m}\sum\limits_{{i=1\atop j{\neq}i}\.}^mx_j)+f(\frac{1}{m}\sum\limits_{i=1}^mx_i)=2f(\sum\limits_{i=1}^mx_i)$$ for a fixed positive integer m with $m\;{\geq}\;2$. This is applied to investigate derivations and their stability on proper Lie $CQ^*$-algebras. The concept of Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability originated from the Th. M. Rassias stability theorem that appeared in his paper: On the stability of the linear mapping in Banach spaces, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 72(1978), 297-300.

  • Using the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability method of functional equations, we investigate homomorphisms in proper $CQ^*$-algebras and proper Lie $CQ^*$-algebras, and derivations on proper $CQ^*$-algebras and proper Lie $CQ^*$-algebras associated with the following functional equation $$\frac{1}{k}f(kx+ky+kz)=f(x)+f(y)+f(z)$$ for a fixed positive integer $k$.
