The purpose of this research is to develop the technology to meet the requirements of the design content, and to build a 'Requirement Information Management Model' for the design project. The model that should be used in the early design stage will undergo the following process: First, basic requirements would be defined by extracting the design content in the form of a reusable library of space units. At the next stage, requirement information should be modified after considering unique characteristics for the project and conflict problems between function and performance.

This study analyzes the common space of the high schools before and after the decade of 2009 which starts Subject-centered clusters school plan, and proposes the direction of common space planning for the future. Based on the floor plans of high schools awarded as excellent school facilities every year, first, types and numbers of common space, second, area ratio between common space and program space and also moving space and staying space, third, space connections were analyzed for tracking the change of the relationship between common, staying and program spaces. The study results demonstrated that types, numbers and area ratio of the common space were increased as the years go on. Especially, the area ratio of staying space was dramatically increased after 2009 and this result was caused by the home-base, alcove space, and hall that were adopted for subject-centered clusters planning after 2009. Connecting diagram of staying area and program spaces also shows the spaces related to staying area were changed from a classrooms and administrative office etc. to a library, gym, and seminar rooms etc. In case of staying area, it would have a value as a common space for various student activities such as group activities, meetings, and multi-uses. Because student activities would be changed and encouraged depending on the location, sizes and program spaces around staying area, it should be emphasized that the planning for staying area is critical for future school design.

This study is an analysis on the needs assessment of school library facilities in Korea. After exploring KLA's Standards for Korean Libraries, IFLA's School Library Guidelines and AASL's Empowering Learners, the needs assessment tool of school library facilities was proposed in the previous study. The tool contains 10 major properties on school library facilities. This study gathered data from 507 students and 134 teacher librarians. The result of analysis is as follows: Students and teacher librarians evaluated the importance of library facilities more highly than the current level of facilities. Collection access, convenience and space are revealed more important properties to students and good environment, expandability, collection access are more important to teacher librarians among the properties.
The contemporary concept of publicness is reinterpreted from the point of view of contemporary publicness. Contemporary perception of public space has now branched and grown into a multitude of non-traditional sites with a variety of programs in mind. In this study, the aim is to discuss how contemporary public library has been evolved as public space and how to create User-centered interaction. In the case of developed countries, the Public Libraries have showed the expected effects because they have more systematic and efficient plan. Also, these libraries are placed with each facility, not distributed separately. It promotes the accumulation of profit on the space and Increases the efficiency. They support more effectively users' activities through the linkages between each facility and create the active interaction between users. Formation of the various interactions and synergies between space had been induced. Publicity means that the state will relate a combination of a number of specific public area. In addition, open space, public place, shall be directed to: This place as one of the users in order to have meaning, must be equipped with the facilities and space to communicate and understand the local role. Methods of the study are to analyze the concept and role of the users with the concept of modern publicity, to examine the concept of multi-complexity of public libraries for the user-oriented publicness, to learn about the characteristics of public spaces in the public libraries that appear in the advanced countries, to examine how to affect these characteristics in the public libraries, and to suggest the possibility and the various application methods on the characteristics of a public space. In the end, the public libraries for the realization of the publicity, support program complexity such as education and culture, welfare facilities, and public service facilities. In the 21st century, these complexity to improve the quality of service in public libraries. These spaces can be an alternative to be kept comfortable in a more vibrant area, and can affect the social, natural, cultural, and environmental aspects of the physical environment and the objects and relationships, as well as expand.
Today's public libraries in communities are on the processes of changes to integrate information and communication technology into traditional library system in order to support current users' demands for the new digital era. The purpose of this study is to examine the changing characters on space design and space uses of community based public libraries by conducting case studies of three branch libraries which were built after 2004 in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the United States. As the conclusion of this research, the findings of the case studies are utilized as basic data for planning and design guidelines for public libraries as community resources. The study summarizes the characteristics of space design and space uses in public libraries as follow; first, the floor plans of small-scale public libraries are open visually as well as spatially. The space organization of the libraries is arranged by potential noise levels, as placing noisy spaces near the entrance halls and quiet spaces at the back. Main book shelves are located in the middle of the library buildings, while seats are arranged along the window sides. By placing various kinds of furniture in open reading areas, library users can select different types of seats and tables for their comforts. Second. the survey of observation also finds that a large number of users often use library computers and personal computers to connect the internet at the libraries. These personal computer users who are new user group in community based libraries preferred to sit in casual study areas and individual tables with one or two seats only. Third, the libraries, in addition, develop and provide various programs and events for people in communities. Especially, the programs for children, the elderly and new comers from the abroad are well prepared, thus provide opportunities for them to visit the libraries in regular bases. The survey finds that family entertainment and leisure activities are the important parts of the program as well as renting music CD and movie DVD are also important reasons for people to come. Thus, the libraries prepare high quality children's space and CD shelves near the entrance hall.
An attempt has been made to prove the so-called 'feature accumulation theory'. It is the theory describing that people tend to feel the same space with more identifiable objects much larger than that with fewer objects. Applying this theory to our cognition of spatial size, this paper made an experiment. Students were asked that if the lecture room they are sitting becomes a module (module 1), then how large are the questioned spaces in the campus. The result was striking. Through the mental image processing, they answered that the library and the architecture building looks much smaller than they actually are, and more surprisingly the basketball field much more smaller than it really is. This experiment shows that there is a strong tendency by which people regard the space much larger when there are more occupiable or behavior-causing elements in the space. In the case of basketball field, since there is nothing that can be occupied, this open space is seen as a small space for the subjects. This line of cognitive perception can be applied to the practice of urban planning and architectural planning. With the same size of given space, we can make it feel more rich and larger.
The purpose of this study is to analyze Alva Aalto's libraries for understanding his efficient induction of natural light. To fulfill this purpose, Alvar Aalto's thought about library and natural light are examined through his working years and building types. The comparison of his libraries on usage of natural light shows different ways of natural light induction based on different locations and programs of libraries. Similarities and differences of Alvar Aalto's library architecture have strong relationship to the usage of natural light in libraries because Alvar Aalto himself regard reading as the core function of library and the efficient use of natural light is the main key of reading. In his natural light planning, regional characteristics including environmental factors and programmatic differences act as a basic standard for natural light plan. Especially, altitude of sun and its path, seasonal features affect the induction way of natural light. While conical skylights used at Viipuri library shows the characteristics of universality in Modernism architecture, later libraries presents not only various kinds of pan-shape plan but different ways of inducing natural light in according to appropriate function. From conical skylight to monitor with curved reflection wall make it possible shed diffused light to reading space and this affects to form Alvar Aalto's organic architecture. As a result, using natural light in Alvar Aalto's library architecture act as the core of forming library concepts and their development.

Makerspace offers an innovative way for university libraries to render services and achieve its core objectives. However, there is low level of adoption in Nigerian university libraries, hence the need to investigate the personnel's perception towards makerspace as an innovative learning platform. To achieve this, the descriptive research design was used to elicit data with the aid of a structured questionnaire, from the 96 library personnel in John Harris Library, University of Benin. Of the 96 copies of questionnaire distributed, 68 copies were returned and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that the library personnel were familiar with makerspace even though they still require more information about it. Also, that makerspace gives students the opportunity to acquire ew skill and enhances collaboration among learners. Moreover, the study revealed that budget constraints, high cost and maintenance of equipments, erratic power supply and lack of staff training are some of the perceived challenges to makerspace implementation. Consequently, the study revealed that university libraries should strategize on how to increase allocation of funds, organize makerspace webinar for personnel, ensure stable electricity supply and create a dedicated space for makerspace in the library. In conclusion, makerspace will provide students with the technological exposure and creative abilities required for the future, and as such effective planning should be made for its deployment and sustainability in Nigerian university libraries.

This study is to suggest the direction of the spatial change of the university library based on the trend of the spatial change in the university libraries and a survey on the perception of the librarians. For this purpose, the characteristics of the spatial change of the university libraries from 2000 to 2020 were analyzed, and the problems of the spatial change of the university libraries were identified through a survey. As a result of the survey, there was a total of 99 spatial changes in the university libraries nationwide over the past 20 years, including new construction, extension and remodeling. In recent years, it was found that due to the university's budget tightening policy, the university libraries focus on remodeling rather than new construction or extension. The characteristics of the spatial change were analyzed as follows. First, the resting areas have been expanded in the libraries. Second, The libraries are in pursuit of pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. Third, the libraries aim to establish an innovative and creative space. All these changes have been made in order to accommodate the requests of users and increase the number of users. It was also found that spatial change has advantages in these two points: providing various spaces and increasing the number of library visitors. On the other hand, spatial change has the problems such as the increased cost of maintaining the facility and the lack of management manpower. Additionally, a few more problems of spatial change are pointed out: first, spatial change only reflects the trend of the times without making a big change in the services and the actual value of the university library. Second, it has made university libraries standardized losing each library's own characteristics. This study suggests that the spatial change of the university library should secure the distinctiveness of the university library, accommodate various changes, and aim for the symbolism that can prove the value and existence of the university library.
The purpose of this study is to propose a method to construct the information space of library with the resilient space and community base to cope with social changes in response to various contents of library functions. As an institution that provides the places and contents necessary for education and research, it aims to expand and change from the collection center to the user center, from the specific user center to the library that shares resources with the community, And to find ways to contribute to the revitalization of education. A library plan for communities that can increase the value of local libraries and expand user-centered space utilization is as follows; First, in terms of communities in space and programs, the program will be supplemented through the activation of cultural, entertainment, and collaborative programs and the creation of communities. Second, in terms of smart support for operational and environmental issues, the establishment of information technology and smart management operating system to expand the research productivity by efficiently utilizing mutually available data with the local community.
