This paper examines the academic basis, current status, and future directions of liberal education for engineers as consilience education. After paying attention to the lists of liberal education for engineers including history of technology, technology and society, engineering ethics, economics of technology, management of technology, and technology policy, I found the academic basis of liberal education for engineers in science and technology studies or innovation studies. And then I monitored how liberal education for engineers is managed focusing on the case of Pusan National University and introduced new attempts on liberal education for engineers in other universities in Korea. Lastly, the future directions for the development of liberal education for engineers were suggested such as the strengthening of lecturers' expertise, the reconstruction of engineering education course, and the promotion of relevant academic associations' cooperation.
This study deals with how liberal education in engineering could be positioned properly in an era of convergence. Disciplines of Engineering has long been focusing on engineer as a 'technical profession' and the liberal education as an accessory to major study has been left behind. Under this understanding, the topic of 'convergence' in the 21th century engineering is hardly to find its way to the establishment into engineering education. This study suggests a direction for the reform of liberal education in engineering, which is expected to overcome the distinction between professional and non-professional aligned with major education and liberal one. For the reform, introducing and developing contents and methodologies considering convergence would open the door of engineering education to interdisciplinary study and to 'open-profession'. Next, the problem solving model in education will be very effective for learners to define the problem, to utilize various knowledges and to lead to meaningful solution. Lastly, we emphasize the changing context of liberal education and it is necessary to integrate 'technology literacy' into liberal education in relation to major study.
Currently, many universities are implementing software-oriented universities and artificial intelligence-oriented universities to foster software-oriented manpower. We are educating students to design and produce computational thinking and coding directly with their major knowledge. However, computer education is not easy for non-majors, and there are many difficulties in coding. The results of responses from 104 students from the College of Health Sciences and College of Social Management who took the liberal arts computer at University H were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 version. In the liberal arts computer class for non-majors, a PJBL-based class plan was proposed. The effectiveness of PJBL-based classes was confirmed through a questionnaire for the improvement of artificial intelligence liberal arts courses. As a result, PJBL-based education showed statistically significant results in terms of satisfaction, effectiveness, and self-efficiency of classes regardless of major.

In this paper, we propose efficient management method of liberal education for improving computer literacy. We analyzed the actual conditions and factors affecting education and reflected the analysis results in education. The subject of the study is 'Practice Excel', and tested achievement based on computer literacy. In order to evaluate objectively, we conducted CBT(Computer Based Test) based on Computer Specialist in Spreadsheet & Database Level-2. Analysis of the questionnaire included the use of the popular statistical program, IBM SPSS 24 trial, and frequency, ANOVA, t-test, crossover analysis, and correlation. Evaluation results, An important factor influencing educational performance was active participation. It also proved to be very helpful for understanding excel functions & expression.
This study aims to provide a science history content system necessary in the course design process of liberal arts subjects, along with the application of flip learning in liberal arts science classes for humanities and social sciences students. For the research, we analyzed the current state of the liberal arts and history of science classes at universities. Then we developed the 'Understanding the History of Science' subject by applying the flip learning method through the analysis of various previous studies. As the goal of science history lectures that can reach the essential purposes of science liberal arts education, including knowledge acquisition and strengthening various competencies, scientific attitude cultivation was set, and the content system of week 15 was designed to consider this. The four topics corresponding to the "History of Science" part of the "Understanding Science History" content system consisted of flipped learning classes and teaching and learning activities, including online video materials and group discussion activities. As a result of opening courses for students in the humanities and social sciences and operating classes for 56 college students, it was confirmed that students' interest and awareness of science increased. This study provides educational evidence for science history and liberal arts education.
The purpose of this study was to analyze pre-school teachers' observation experience and their pre and post degrees of preferences in observing underground and water living things, fungus, insects, flowerless plants and sea lives. Based on the analysis, their pre-observation experience in living things were insects, ocean creatures, underground living things, flowerless plants, fungus and water living things in order. The degree of preferences in flowerless plans based on their gender, the female pre-service teachers showed higher scores than the average in both pre and post test. The male, however, responded higher scores in underground living things in both tests. Their background such as liberal arts or science or arts and physical major affected their preferences scores in water living things, insects and flowerless plans in the post test, and the science major pre-service teachers showed the highest degree of preferences in insects among the liberal arts, science or arts and physical major pre-teachers in the post test. In conclusion, there were different degree of their preferences affected by the pre observation experience, gender difference, their present majors such as the liberal arts, science or arts and physical major, the categories of living things but not in their high school background such as liberal arts or science.
The purpose of this study was to compare thinking styles between the gifted students in science and invention The subjects were 191 gifted elementary students in science and 182 gifted elementary students in invention, who enrolled in gifted education program. They were given the Thinking Style Inventory (TSI) that standardized Korea version by Yun (1997), which constructed 13 thinking styles of 5 dimensions (functions, forms, levels, scopes, and leanings of the mental self-government). The collected data were analyzed by independent sampling t-test and ANOVA with SPSS. The findings of this study were as follows: the gifted in science prefer executive, oligarchic, and global thinking styles rather than the gifted in invention. Meanwhile, the gifted in invention prefer legislative, judicial, local, and liberal thinking styles rather than the gifted in science. Both of the gifted in science and invention prefer legislative, executive, monarchic, anarchic, external, and liberal thinking styles. There was statistically significant differences between boys and girls in executive, oligarchic, local, and liberal thinking styles of the gifted in science.
Objectives: This literature review seeks to identify the current status of the liberal arts education of dental hygiene majors offered by universities in Korea and the U.S. and provide a comparative analysis of the data on liberal arts education in both countries. Methods: From April 3, 2017 to May 1, 2017, research data on curriculum topics were collected from 60 selected universities. The data were collected from university websites, which also provided the universities' emails and dental hygiene major descriptions. We calculated the descriptive statistics of the variables and performed independent t-tests on the data. Results: In all the domains of the NCS and K-CESA, the dental hygiene major currently offers courses on language and communication and general education, focusing on self-management and development. Few universities offer subjects from other disciplines. Conclusions: Pro-actively exploring strategies is a prerequisite to the systematic operation of standardized dental hygiene education. It is imperative to conduct research consistently on relevant topics, such as teaching methods, general education standards, and connectivity between major subjects and the goals and effects of exposure to a general education.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the recognition of the curriculum experts on 2015 integrated liberal arts and natural sciences curriculum revision. Research method is a delphi survey and the subjects are curriculum experts. The research results are as follows. Firstly, experts suggested common education for all students and students' opportunities to choose subjects. Secondly, the direction of curriculum revision was different by school level. The elementary school needs to foster convergence thinking. The middle school needs to educate common basic literacy education and the high school needs both the common education and the free choice of subjects by students. Thirdly, the separation of the liberal arts and natural sciences was caused by the separate thinking of custom, tradition and study and the separate exam application on liberal arts and natural science of college scholastic ability test. The solution about separation problem of liberal arts and natural sciences have been proposed to improve mathematics education and teachers' convergence education competency. Lastly, for the establishment of an 2015, integrated curriculum the reduction of the CSAT test area and the introduction of qualifying examination for English were required.
Recently, there is an increasing number of universities in which SW education is operated as a liberal arts education regardless of major. In this paper, the survey is conducted to analysis the factors affecting the non-majors students' perception of the necessity of SW education through a case study of SW liberal arts by gender, college, and SW learning experience. As a result, men, students of social science college, and students with SW learning experience strongly agreed that SW education for non-majors is essential. 'SW education is very helpful in studying my major' was analyzed as a necessary condition of SW education for non-majors. Especially, the difficulty of SW learning did not affect the recognition of the necessity of non-majors SW education. If the SW liberal education is based on the SW technology that helps their major, it will be expected that the improved learning motivation due to majors-relevance will deepen a consensus on SW education.
