This research aims at transforming the definition tort of an English-English-Korean Dictionary (EEKD) which is encoded in EST files for the purpose of publishing into a structured format for Lexical Data Base (LDB). The construction of LDB is very time-consuming and expensive work. In order to save time and efforts in building new lexical information, the present study tries to extract useful linguistic information from an existing printed dictionary. In this paper, the process of extraction and structuring of lexical information from a printed dictionary (EEKD) as a lexical resource is described. The extracted information is represented in XML format, which can be transformed into another representation for different application requirements.

The majority of research on Automated Writing Evaluation (AWE) programs has focused primarily on Grammarly, whereas QuillBot and its use in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms remains limitedly explored. This study examined the effectiveness of using QuillBot on the writing quality of college students. A total of 26 participants took pre- and post-writing tests, and four analytical tools were applied to assess their writing quality in terms of syntactic complexity, lexical diversity, lexical richness, and readability. Results of the syntactic complexity analysis across the four indices demonstrates that the syntactic complexity of EFL writing increased significantly, and substantial differences were observed in lexical richness and readability. These results suggest that QuillBot can compensate for the drawbacks of Grammarly and assist EFL writers in improving their overall writing quality.
This study developed and validated a 'Parent-child Lexical Interaction Scale for Preschoolers (PLIS-P)'. First, we developed the preliminary scale with 7 factors after reviewing previous literature related to vocabulary and literacy instruction for young children and reflected on feedback from child studies experts and mothers with young children. Subsequently, to validate the scale, the online survey was conducted on mothers with 5-to 6-year-old children who live in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Gyeongsang, Chungcheong, Jeolla, Gangwon, and Jeju. Responses from 309 mothers were used to conduct exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and correlation analysis. The results were as follows. First, the result of exploratory analysis showed that the model with 7 factors was satisfactory: (1) vocabulary exposure, (2) word elaboration, (3) scaffolding, (4) play activity, (5) conventional instruction, (6) word type awareness instruction, (7) word morphology instruction. Second, confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the good fit of the model. Third, the concurrent validity was confirmed by correlation analysis using EC-HOME. Last, the internal consistency reliability of each factor of PLIS-P was also confirmed. This study developed both a theoretical framework of parent-child lexical interaction and a Parent-child Lexical Interaction Scale for Preschoolers. This scale can be used by parents, practitioners, and researchers to acquire knowledge about interaction related to words between Korean parents and young children.

Disaster has a direct influence on the lives of the people, the body, and the property. For effective and rapid disaster responses, coordination process based on sharing and utilizing disaster information is the essential requirement Disaster and safety control agencies produce and manage heterogeneous information. They also develop and use word dictionaries individually. This is a major obstacle to retrieve and access disaster and safety information in terms of practitioners. To solve this problem, standardization of lexical resources related disaster and safety is essentially required. In this paper, we conducted current status analysis about lexical resources in disaster and safety domain. Consequently, we identified the characteristics according to lexical groups. And then we proposed the utilization plan of lexical resources for disaster and safety information management.
Nowadays, diverse mass media discovers and introduces outstanding management cases of apartment complexes to induce vital competitions of constructors and active participation of residents to apartment management. This study statistically analyzed the management issues of outstanding apartment complexes that have been introduced by mass media with lexical criteria to examine the characteristics of their exemplary management. The key issues of outstanding apartment management are summarized as: efficient management of convenient facilities for residents, community activities based on residents' participation, and maintenance of pleasant living environments through transparent management. Also, the result of the relation arrangement of co-occurrence word from a Social Network Analysis included three key concepts of multi-family housing management - Maintenance Management, Operating Management, and Community Life Management - with emphasis on 'residents' and 'apartment complexes.' However, Operating Management was relatively deemphasized.
This study aimed at investigating the lexical diversity in the "Frog Story" narratives of Korean-Chinese bilingual children. Six bilingual speakers of Korean children- four boys and two girls- were audio recorded as they produced narratives based on pictures from the Mercer Mayer book "Frog, where are you?" The order of narration was counterbalanced. The vocabularies from narratives were analyzed by type, token, TTR (type-token Ratio) and D value using the CLAN (Computerized Language Analysis) program. The findings showed that the pattern of lexical diversity in Korean is similar with the Chinese, but the TTR and D value of Chinese still remain low in comparison with those of Korean. In addition, Korean language seems to have significant influence on Chinese in the language usage pattern and vice versa.

Lexical disambiguation is one of the most basic areas in natural language processing such as speech recognition/synthesis, information retrieval, corpus tagging/ etc. This paper describes a Korean lexical disambiguation mechanism where the disambigution is perfoemed on the basis of the statistical information collected from corpora. In this mechanism, the token tags corresponding to the results of the morphological analysis are used instead of part of speech tags for the purpose of detail disambiguation. The lexical selection function proposed shows considerably high accuracy, since the lexical characteristics of Korean such as concordance of endings or postpositions are well reflected in it. Two disambiguation methods, a unique selection method and a multiple selection method, are provided so that they can be properly according to the application areas.
Under the textbook-driven approach to English education in the Korean selling, the importance of the English textbook can not be overemphasized as the main source of learning materials. Recently, with the development of computer-based language corpora, the recognition of the importance of collocations and the availability of computerized databases of words have caused a resurgence and facilitation in the instruction of collocation. The primary purpose of the present study is to identify the characteristics of lexical collocation and the extent of its use in high school 10th-grade textbooks. From all the analyses, it is revealed that the language materials reflect various constructed collocation in the case of adjective+noun and noun+noun collocations in a natural context. However, verb+noun and adverb+verb collocations are not fully reflected. This is true for delexicalized verbs, and verb and adjective intensifiers. Also the language materials do not provide sufficient support for the lexical syllabus, even though all textbooks may be somewhat adequate in terms of vocabulary size. Finally, based on the analyses of the texts, the suggestions for English collocation instruction are made in the lexical approach.
Recently, there has been a surge of interests concerning the construction and utilization of a Korean thesaurus. In this paper, a semi-automatic method for generating a lexical-semantic network of Korean '-ha' verbs is presented through an analysis of the lexical definitions of these verbs. Initially, through the use of several tools that can filter out and coordinate lexical data, pairs constituting a word and a definition were prepared for treatment in a subsequent step. While inspecting the various definitions of each verb, we extracted and coordinated the head words from the sentences that constitute the definition of each word. These words are thought to be the main conceptual words that represent the sense of the current verb. Using these head words and related information, this paper shows that the creation of a thesaurus could be achieved without any difficulty in a semi-automatic fashion.
