  • Image segmentation is one of the first steps leading to image analysis and interpretation, which is to distinguish objects from background. However, the active contour model can't exactly extract the desired objects because the phase only is 2. In this paper, we propose the method which can find the desired contours by composing the initial curve near the objects which have intensities of special range. The initial curve is calculated by the histogram equalization, the Gaussian equalization, and the threshold. The proposed method reduce the calculation speed and exactly detect the wanted objects because the initial curve set near by interested area. The proposed method also shows more efficient than the active contour model in the results applied the CT and MR images.

  • A level set based topological shape optimization using extended B-spline basis functions is developed for steady-state heat conduction problems. The only inside of complicated domain identified by the level set functions is taken into account in computation, so we can remove the effects of domain outside parts in heat conduction problem. The solution of Hamilton-Jacobi equation leads to an optimal shape according to the normal velocity field determined from the sensitivity analysis, minimizing a thermal compliance while satisfying a volume constraint. To obtain exact shape sensitivity, the precise normal and curvature of geometry need to be determined using the level set and B-spline basis functions. Using topological derivative concept, the nucleation of holes for topological changes can be made whenever and wherever necessary during the optimization.

  • This paper deals with a rank transformation method and a Theil's method based on an ${\alpha}$-level set of a fuzzy number to construct a fuzzy linear regression model. The rank transformation method is a simple procedure where the data are merely replaced with their corresponding ranks, and the Theil's method uses the median of all estimates of the parameter calculated from selected pairs of observations. We also consider two numerical examples to evaluate effectiveness of the fuzzy regression model using the proposed method and of another fuzzy regression model using the least square method.

  • In this paper, we presents a method for multi-level logic mainmization which is suitable for the minimization of look-up table type FPGAs. A pattern extraction algorithm is minimized AND/XOR multi-level circuits. The circuits apply to Roth-Karp decomposition which is most commonly used technique in the FPGA technology mapping. We tested the FPGA synthesis method using pattern extraction on a set of benchmark. The proposed method achieved reductions on the number of LUTs in mapping soultion as compared with MISII(or SIS) or previous results〔5〕

  • Micro molding technology is a promising mass production technology for polymer based microstructures. Mass production technologies such as the micro injection/compression molding, hot embossing, and micro reaction molding are already in use. In the present study, we have developed a numerical analysis system to simulate three-dimensional non-isothermal cavity filling for hot embossing, with a special emphasis on the free surface capturing. Precise free surface capturing has been successfully accomplished with the level set method, which is solved by means of the Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin (RKDG) method. The RKDG method turns out to be excellent from the viewpoint of both numerical stability and accuracy of volume conservation. The Stokes equations are solved by the stabilized finite element method using the equal order tri-linear interpolation function. To prevent possible numerical oscillation in temperature Held we employ the streamline upwind Petrov-Galerkin (SUPG) method. With the developed code we investigated the detailed change of free surface shape in time during the mold filling. In the filling simulation of a simple rectangular cavity with repeating protruded parts, we find out that filling patterns are significantly influenced by the geometric characteristics such as the thickness of base plate and the aspect ratio and pitch of repeating microstructures. The numerical analysis system enables us to understand the basic flow and material deformation taking place during the cavity filling stage in microstructure fabrications.

  • We have limited the transfer power to capital area below a certain level which is called "The Capital Area Transfer Power Limit", and calculated on every Thursday for the application next week. This level is very important in our network operation, because if this level is not set properly, our power network can be fallen under great danger in case of a fault among the transfer power line. But the calculation procedure for the limit level is so complicated and iterative that it mace us spend much time and do much work. So, when a sudden trip of the related facility to the limit level we can't recalculate the limit level fast enough. And this can drop our network reliability below our standards, therefore our network can be dangerous. To avoid this kind of problems, we have figured out a method to calculate simply the limit level. That method uses the index related to the level. We think this method can make short of the calculation procedures for the level. This paper deals with the simplified method for the calculation of the level limit.

  • In clinical research using medical images, the image segmentation is one of the most important processes. Especially, the hippocampal atrophy is helpful for the clinical Alzheimer diagnosis as a specific marker of the progress of Alzheimer. In order to measure hippocampus volume exactly, segmentation of the hippocampus is essential. However, the hippocampus has some features like relatively low contrast, low signal-to-noise ratio, discreted boundary in MRI images, and these features make it difficult to segment hippocampus. To solve this problem, firstly, We selected region of interest from an experiment image, subtracted a original image from the negative image of the original image, enhanced contrast, and applied anisotropic diffusion filtering and gaussian filtering as preprocessing. Finally, We performed an image segmentation using two level set methods. Through a variety of approaches for the validation of proposed hippocampus segmentation method, We confirmed that our proposed method improved the rate and accuracy of the segmentation. Consequently, the proposed method is suitable for segmentation of the area which has similar features with the hippocampus. We believe that our method has great potential if successfully combined with other research findings.

  • As the fuzzy control is applied to servo system, the hardware implementation of the fuzzy information systems requires the high speed operations, short real time control and the small size systems. The aims of this study is to develop hardware of the fuzzy information systems to be apply to servo system. In this paper, we propose a calculation method of approximate reasoning for fuzzy control based on $\alpha$ -level set decomposition of fuzzy sets by quantize $\alpha$ -cuts. This method can be easily implemented with analog hardware. The influence of quantization Bevels of $\alpha$-cuts on output from fuzzy inference engine is investigated. It is concluded that 4 quantization levels give sufficient result for fuzzy control performance of dc servo system. The hardware implementation of proposed operation method and of the defuzzification by gravity center method which is directly converted to PWM actuating signal is also presented. It is verified useful with experiment for dc servo system.

  • A level-set method is used for analyzing the behaviors of gas bubbles in two fluids incompressible viscous flow domain. The governing equations are solved by using a finite volume method. The numerical results are verified by comparing with the experimental and other computational results. Computations for the deformations and motions of one or multi-bubbles in the flow domain with the initial undisturbed free interface are conducted. It can be seen that numerical results for different surface tension and density ratio arise very different behaviors of bubbles. When bubbles rise near the free interface, the free interface gives some great influence on the behaviors of bubbles. The present results computed by a level-set method give useful information about the properties of bubble motions and deformations.

  • In this paper, we compare our proposed method with previous methods for the volumetric image segmentation using level set. In order to obtain an exact segmentation, the region and boundary information of image object are used in our proposed speed function. The boundary information is defined by the gradient vector flow obtained from the gradient images and the region information is defined by Gaussian distribution information of pixel intensity in a region-of-interest for image segmentation. Also the regular term is used to remove the noise around surface. We show various experimental results of real medical volume images to verify the superiority of proposed method.
