Promoting Safety Behaviors Among Korean American Students in USA: Evaluation of the Risk Watch$\circledR$ Curriculum

  • Childhood injuries are the primary cause of death and disability among children aged 5 to 14. Consistent practice of learned safety behaviors can reduce the occurrence of severe injuries among children. However, safety behavior concern is low among Korean-American children specifically and American children, in general. The objective of the study is to evaluate the impact of an unintentional injury prevention curriculum, Risk Watch among Korean-American children. A quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group was used for the designed of the study. Two intervention and two control Korean schools in Atlanta participated in this study. The intervention consisted of weekly lessons in traffic, bicycle, pedestrian, and fire safety. One hundred and two students completed a pre-test and a post-test. The main outcomes were safety behaviors (seat belt use or helmet use), behavioral intentions, and safety knowledge. Analysis of covariance was used for the statistical analyses. Strong intervention effects were found for increasing knowledge of all safety topics in the intervention group. Additionally, statistically significant intervention effects were detected for increasing seat belt and helmet use, as well as behavioral intentions of wearing a seat belt and wearing a helmet, among pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students. For students in grades 1 and 2, intervention effects were found for increasing helmet use. Among students in grades 3 to 8, the intervention group showed statistically significant increases for seat belt use. Limitations of the study and recommendations for modifying and supporting unintentional injury prevention programs for school children are discussed.

  • BIM 기술은 건물 전생애주기 동안의 다양한 빌딩정보를 저장하고 활용할 수 있게 해 준다. BIM 환경구축을 위해서는 건축, 토목, 설비, 전기 등 각 전문분야가 다양한 BIM 어플리케이션을 사용하여 생성한 정보들 간의 상호연동성 확보가 필수적이다. 그러나 현재 사용되고 있는 IFC 기반 정보교환환경을 살펴보면 3D 객체정보의 손실 및 부정확한 정보전달 등의 문제점이 발생하고 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해서는 IFC를 통한 각 어플리케이션 간의 정보 호환이 어느 정도 이루어지고 있는가를 정확히 파악하는 것이 필수적이나 현재까지 그런 자료를 제공할 수 있는 연구실적은 미미한 실정이다. 본 연구는 최근 들어 국내 빌딩분야에서 활용빈도가 증가하고 있는 Bentley Architecture로 모델링한 설계단계 BIM 데이터를 IFC를 통해 타 어플리케이션으로 호환함에 있어 문제점을 도출하고 선행연구와의 비교분석을 통하여 호환성 증진을 위한 개선방향을 제시하고자 한다.

Lessons Learned from a Comparative Analysis of Surgical Outcomes of and Learning Curves for Laparoscopy-Assisted Distal Gastrectomy

  • Purpose: Before expanding our indications for laparoscopic gastrectomy to advanced gastric cancer and adopting reduced port laparoscopic gastrectomy, we analyzed and audited the outcomes of laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy (LADG) for adenocarcinoma; this was done during the adoptive period at our institution through the comparative analysis of short-term surgical outcomes and learning curves (LCs) of two surgeons with different careers. Materials and Methods: A detailed comparative analysis of the LCs and surgical outcomes was done for the respective first 95 and 111 LADGs performed by two surgeons between July, 2006 and June, 2011. The LCs were fitted by using the non-linear ordinary least squares estimation method. Results: The postoperative morbidity and mortality rates were 14.6% and 0.0%, respectively, and there was no significant difference in the morbidity rates (12.6% vs. 16.2%, P=0.467). More than 25 lymph nodes were retrieved by each surgeon during LADG procedures. The LCs of both surgeons were distinct. In this study, a stable plateau of the LC was not achieved by both surgeons even after performing 90 LADGs. Conclusions: Regardless of the experience with gastrectomy or laparoscopic surgery for other organs, or the age of surgeon, the outcome was quite acceptable; the learning process differ according to the surgeon's experience and individual characteristics.

예비 교사의 초등 수학 수업에 대한 기술과 비평의 변화 (Changes in Describing and Commenting on Elementary Mathematics Instruction by Prospective Teachers)

  • 예비 교사 교육은 수업 전문성의 기초를 쌓는 시기라는 점에서 중요하지만, 이에 대한 연구는 미비하다. 본 논문은 예비 교사가 초등수학교육방법론 강의를 수강하면서 초등 수학 수업을 기술하고 비평하는 능력이 어떻게 변화했는지를 분석한 것이다. 연구 결과 수업 기술 측면에서는 강의 초반보다 후반에 수업의 핵심적인 단계에 더 주목하게 되었고 학습 내용에 적합한 수업 전략의 활용 여부에 주목하게 되었다. 수업 비평 측면에서는 전반적으로 수업 전략과 수학적 담화에 대한 내용에 대해 교사를 중심으로 평가적 수준에서 대안 없이 비평하는 비중이 높았다. 다만 강의 후반에는 교사와 학생을 함께 고려하고, 수학 개념이나 이론을 적용하여 비평의 근거를 마련하며, 해석적 수준에서 비평하는 비중이 높아졌다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 토대로 본 논문은 예비 교사 교육에서 초등수학교육방법론 지도와 관련된 시사점을 도출하였다.

학교 캠퍼스를 활용한 창의적 체험활동 운영방안 연구 (The Study of Investigating the Way Applying a School Garden for the Creative Experience Activity)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the way applying a school garden for the creative experience activity on the school learning program. For this study, the 27s elementary students who were the 5th and 6th grades participated in this program. And the 10units lessons programs what were consisted with the inquiry, debating, and cooperating activities were developed, and applying to classroom and school garden. The key concepts of developing program were 'rocks which were in the school garden'. he results are follows, for the creative experience activity on the school teaching/learning program, the school garden has useful value as teaching/learning field. The teaching/learning activity applying the school garden makes an offer the awareness to students that the knowledges learned in school were actually relative with their life. Also, the students are affirmatively participate to learning, debate, and cooperate activities because the school garden is very familiar environment to them. Lastly, the students are interesting in learning classes because they think that the school garden environments will reform actually to new shape of their ideas. After this learning were finishing, most of students indicated their intention with satisfaction. Some of them suggested applying the additional program using the school garden. Consequently, the school garden has the very useful value for applying program of the teaching/learning in elementary school education.

과학위성 1호 인증모델 열진공 시험 (Thermal Vacuum Test of Kaistsat-4 Qm)

  • KAIST 인공위성연구센터에서는 우리별 1, 2, 3호의 개발에 이어 과학위성 1호를 개발하고 있다. 2003년에 발사 예정인 과학위성 1호는 현재 인증모델 단계의 개발 및 시험이 완료되었다. 본 인증모델 열진공 시험에서는 위성의 각 서브시스템이 예상되는 궤도 상의 온도보다 가혹한 조건에서 시험되었고, 열해석 모델의 검증 및 수정을 위한 열진공평형 시험도 수행되었다. 본 논문에서는 과학위성 1호의 인증모델 열진공 시험 과정 및 결과와 더불어 그 과정에서 알아낸 문제점 및 개선방안 등을 살펴보고, 또한 향후 유사한 소형위성 열진공 시험에 유용하게 쓰일 수 있는 고려 사항들을 검토한다.

빅데이터 분석의 역량 강화를 위한 거꾸로 교실 설계 연구 (The Flipped Classroom Design for Capability Enhancement of Big-Data Analysis)

  • The purpose of this study is to empirical case study for the instructional design of flipped classroom by job-capability advancement of IT business majors. A student of IT business school has learned a lot of management educations for four years. But, they don't recognize a connection between school education and business practice. A subject based on the humanities, and social sciences consisted of mostly the memorization. The undergraduate class lack a practice's curriculum by a creative-oriented lesson rather than memorization-oriented. In particular, An IT business is now recognized as a significance emerging IT investment, the Internet of Things, information security, big data and strategy's ERP. For these reasons, it is important for an instructional design for understanding business practices of the students. Accordingly, Flipped classroom with participatory class be needed increasingly for students' practical sense. We will propose a design method of flipped classroom for inspiring business education. In this, new instructional design overturned traditional teaching method. After the student conducts a prior learn at home, school will accomplish a problem solving through question and answer. This design effected a boredom suppress and creative enforcement of student and an intimacy increase of instructor. In addition, A participatory class and reciprocal peer tutoring will be possible by a spontaneous self-directed learning of student. We were designed course of project type based on big data theory and application to target the fourth-year course. In conclusion, the new instruction provided a help to learning synergy between student and lecturer. During the lessons, the student showed improvement of business sense and enhanced problem solving capability. The lecturer has the intimacy through communication interaction with students.

무인기를 이용한 광역부지 환경방사선측정 기술 현황 및 현장 적용 연구 (Technical Status of Environmental Radiation Monitoring using a UAV and Its Field Application to the Aerial Survey)

  • 후쿠시마 원전사고의 교훈으로 사고단계별 다양한 방사선 탐사 수단을 이용하여 포괄적인 환경방사선을 측정하는 것이 효율적인 사고대응과 위험관리를 위하여 바람직하다. 본 연구에서는 드론 등의 무인기를 이용한 환경방사선 탐사 기술 현황으로 분광분석이 가능한 고분해능의 방사선 검출기 2대를 활용한 환경방사선 탐사시스템을 개발하고, 이를 무인기에 장착하여 직접 사고현장에 적용함으로써 그 성능을 평가하였다. 최종적으로 다양한 비행고도에서의 탐사결과를 지상 1m 높이에서의 선량률로 환산하기 위한 보정인자를 도출함으로써 성공적인 현장 적용성 평가 결과를 도출할 수 있었다.

국내 사례로 살펴보는 국방체계 개발의 신뢰성을 높이기 위한 시험평가 방안 (Effective Test and Evaluation Approaches for Reliable Defense Systems Development examined through Domestic Defense Cases)

  • This paper presents practical issues for test and evaluation(T&E) methods to develop defense systems. Our argument is motivated by several domestic defense cases and the cases lead us to discuss two main factors for reliable defense systems development: 1) statistical approaches and 2) technical schemes. Specifically, statistical approaches enable to provide credible interpretations about T&E results in the decision-making process. With practical T&E results of the “Red Shark” torpedo, we performed statistical hypothesis tests and suggest a minimum sample size to accept the hypothesis. Next, technical schemes have more direct effects on improving reliability of developed defense systems and we shortly introduce tools development for systems verification that is required to integrate several sub-systems, e.g., combat, sensor, weapon, and communication systems, within a defense system. We additionally summary some domain cases using modeling and simulation techniques for successful T&E. In closing, we expect that the paper shows empirical investigation and lessons learned with these two practical issues, which provides a guide those who desire to make decisions about reliable defense systems development.

나노급 초소형위성 우주환경시험 : 결과 및 교훈 (Results and Lessons Learned From Nanosatellite Space Environment Test)

  • 최근 New Space 시대를 맞이하여 초소형위성이 위성시스템 교육용 도구에서 벗어나 민간 우주 산업체, 정부 기관 및 군정찰 기관에서도 우주 비즈니스 및 실질적인 임무 수행을 위해 활용되는 추세이다. 국내에서도 대학을 중심으로 시작한 초소형위성 개발이 점차 민간 산업체를 비롯하여 다양한 주체들이 시도하고 있다. 하지만 초소형위성의 임무 성공 가능성을 높일 수 있는 우주환경시험의 수행 준비 과정과 시험 결과 그리고 그 과정에서 발생되어 질 수 있는 여러 가지 문제들에 대해 정리되고, 그 경험을 공유할 수 있는 자료를 국내에서 찾기가 쉽지 않다. 본 논문에서는 국내 최초로 개발되고 있는 6U급 초소형위성(SNIPE)의 우주환경시험의 준비부터 시험 수행 과정, 시험 결과 그리고 문제점들을 정리함으로써 나노급 초소형위성(Nanosatellite)을 개발하고자 하는 주체들이 시행착오를 줄이고 임무 성공 가능성을 높이는 데 유용한 참고자료로 활용되기를 기대한다.
