  • This paper proposes a profilometry system for precise surface contouring of 3D objects using a direc- tionally magnified image of a laser light stripe. The resolution of this system can be improved several times comparad with that of conventional systems without loss of spatial resolution and depth of measurement. A pair of cylindrical lens(a convex lens and a concave lens) are used for a directionally magnified image of a laser light stripe maintaining the same focal plane. Also, image processing procedures for image reconstruc- tions are described.

  • In the present research, the optical measurement error induced by vibration of the optical measurement tower for large mirrors at KRISS (Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science) is investigated. The vibrations of the tower structure, the interferometer, and the null lens are measured while the surface errors of the 600-mm-diameter on-axis aspheric mirror are measuring, under various environmental conditions. The increase of surface error induced by alignment error with respect to vibration is analyzed. As a result, the interferometer and the null lens, which are located on the top of the tower, are highly sensitive to vibration. Additionally, the surface error of the mirror is strongly increased when the vibration directions of the interferometer and the null lens are different. To reduce the alignment error and the surface error induced by vibration, the tower structure should be improved, to be insensitive to low-frequency vibration. Alternatively, optical measuring under stable conditions by vibration monitoring can improve the reliability of the surface error measurement.

  • A surface image velocimeter (SIV) measures the velocity of a particle group by calculating the intensity distribution of the particle group in two consecutive images of the water surface using a cross-correlation method. Therefore, to increase the accuracy of the flow velocity calculated by a SIV, it is important to accurately calculate the displacement of the particle group in the images. In other words, the change in the physical distance of the particle group in the two images to be analyzed must be accurately calculated. In the image of an actual river taken using a camera, camera lens distortion inevitably occurs, which affects the displacement calculation in the image. In this study, we analyzed the effect of camera lens distortion on the displacement calculation using a dense and uniformly spaced grid board. The results showed that the camera lens distortion gradually increased in the radial direction from the center of the image. The displacement calculation error reached 8.10% at the outer edge of the image and was within 5% at the center of the image. In the future, camera lens distortion correction can be applied to improve the accuracy of river surface flow rate measurements.

  • The study aimed to investigate in vitro lipid deposition of oleic acid, oleic acid methyl ester and cholesterol on a daily disposable (1-day lenses) and 3-days lenses over 3 days and changes of optical characteristics is also investigated. Artificial tear solutions were prepared to simulate actual tear compositions. Two types of contact lenses (1-day lenses (Senofilcon A) and 3-days lenses (silicone tripolymer)) were soaked in the artificial tear solutions within an incubator at 37 ℃ with 150 rpm for 8, 16, 24 hours. Lipid deposition (oleic acid, oleic acid methyl ester and cholesterol) were measured using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) instrument. In addition, measurements of oxygen transmissibility, light transmittance and observation of lens surface were conducted. The amount of lipid deposition on the 1-day lenses were 127.55 ㎍/lens for Day 1, 302.96 ㎍/lens, for Day 2, and 353.30 ㎍/lens for Day 3. The 3-days lenses were 46.22 ㎍/lens for Day 1, 66.07 ㎍/lens for Day 2, and 67.45 ㎍/lens for Day 3. Oxygen transmissibility were 81×10-9(cm/sec)(ml O2/ml×mmHg)(Baseline) and 48×10-9(cm/sec)(ml O2/ml×mmHg) (Day 3) for the 1-day lenses, it were 13.23×10-9(cm/sec)(ml O2/ml×mmHg)(Baseline) and 9.6×10-9(cm/sec)(ml O2/ml×mmHg) (Day 3) for the 3-days lenses. Transmittance of each lenses were 97.21% (Baseline) and 94.25% (Day 3) for the 1-day lenses, 97.65% (Baseline) and 95.15% (Day 3) for the 3-days lenses. Observation of surface deposition indicated greatest deposition for the 3-days lenses type on Day 3. Lipid deposition for both lens types increased by day and was greater for the 1-day lenses type. Surface deposition appeared to differ as it was greatest for the 3 days lens type, which may suggest other deposits such as protein may be present.

  • Curvature of Crystalline lens changes by Accommdation's change. When Accommdation gives force vertically to Crystalline lens that is elastic body, length increases for vertex direction. Density distribution and form of Crystalline lens that receive force lean to posterior surface, horizontal force of anterior surface direction is bigger more than horizontal force of posterior surface direction. But, if Accommdation begins to grow more than threshold value, expansity reaches in limit on anterior surface. This time, horizontal force of posterior surface direction is great mored more than horizontal force of anterior surface direction, thickness of posterior surface direction increases because is more than anterior surface direction. Anterior and posterior relationship thickness change difference accomplish the 2-nd funtional line(${\Delta}=B_1D+B_2D^2$) about Accommdation. Thickness (${\Delta}t_a$, ${\Delta}t_p$) difference change curved line of anterior pole-border and border-posterior pole by Accommdation is expressed as following. $${\Delta}t_a=t_a-t_{ao}=t_{max}+t_0{\exp}(-A/B)-t_{ao}$$ $${\Delta}t_p=t_p-t_{po}=t_{min}+t_0{\exp}(A/B)-t_{po}$$ The Parameter value that save in human's Crystalline lens obtain $t_{min}=1.1.06$, $t_0=-0.33$, B=9.32 in anterior, and $t_{max}=1.97$, $t_0=0.10$, B=7.96 etc. in posterior. Vertex curvature radius' change is as following Crystalline lens' anterior and posterior by Accommation $$R=R_0+R_1{\exp}(D/k)$$ The Parameter value that save in human's Crystalline lens obtain $R_{min}=5.55$, $R_1=6.87$, k=4.65 in anterior, and $R_{max}=-68.6$, $R_1=76.7$, k=308.5 in posterior, respectively.

  • A tear lens formed by between back surface of spherical rigid gas permeable(RGP) contact lens and front surface of cornea shows an excellent correction effect of astigmatism. To study an effects of tear lens power using spherical RGP lens and therefore to utilize them in clinical procedures, we analyze a change of the total astigmatism, the cornea astigmatism, and the residual astigmatism, we derive the following conclusion. 1. Almost all refractive astigmatism below than 2.00D present fully corrected. Thereby resulting good visual acuity. Refractive astigmatism higher than 2.50D show under-corrected and apparent decrease of visual acuity if it is higher than 3.00D. 2. Amount of corneal astigmatism below than 2.50D show acceptable under-corrected while higher than 3.000 present unacceptable visual acuity. 3. An estimated residual astigmatism is not revealed as it is : but it is reduced when it incorporate to refractive astigmatism.

  • LCD-BLU (Liquid Crystal Display - Back Light Unit) is one of kernel parts of LCD unit and it consists of several optical sheets(such as prism, diffuser and protector sheets), LGP (Light Guiding Plate), light source (CCFL or LED) and mold frame. The LGP of LCD-BLU is usually manufactured by forming numerous dots with $50{\sim}200$ um in diameter on it by etching process. But the surface of the etched dots of LGP is very rough due to the characteristics of the etching process during the mold fabrication, so that its light loss is high along with the dispersion of light into the surface. Accordingly, there is a limit in raising the luminance of LCD-BLU. In order to overcome the limit of current etched dot patterned LGP, optical pattern design with 50um micro-lens was applied in the present study. The micro-lens pattern fabricated by modified LiGA with thermal reflow process was applied to the optical design of LGP. The attention was paid to the effects of different aspect ratio (i.e. $0.2{\sim}0.5$) of optical pattern conditions to the brightness distribution of BLU with micro-lens patterned LGP. Finally, high aspect ratio micro-lens patterned LGP showed superior results to the one made by low aspect ratio in average luminance.
