First report and morphological description of two Acrobeloides species(Nematoda: Rhabditida: Cephalobidae) in South Korea

  • The genus Acrobeloides(Cobb, 1924) Thorne, 1937 are bacterial feeders and are one of the most abundant and widely distributed nematode groups in various terrestrial environments. Based on morphological and morphometric analyses, we found two Acrobeloides species reported in Korea for the first time: A. bodenheimeri (Steiner, 1936) Thorne, 1937 and A. tricornis (Throne, 1925) Thorne, 1937. These species exhibit morphological characters concordant with typical features of the genus Acrobeloides, such as a fusiform pharyngeal corpus with swollen metacorpus and lateral incisures extending to the tail terminus. However, A. bodenheimeri is distinguished from other acrobeloids by having its low and rounded labial probolae, distinct post-uterine sac and five lateral incisures. Acrobeloides tricornis is distinguished from its congeners by the following characteristics: its high labial probolae with acuate termini, inconspicuous post-uterine sac and five lateral incisures. Morphological characters and their measurements, and illustrations of A. bodenheimeri and A. tricornis are described in this study.

  • Vaccines can cause adverse reactions, such as soreness, swelling, or redness at the injection site. Some reactions are associated with fever and rash, which are usually mild and transient, and serious side effects are rare. In particular, there are no reports of systemic infection following a COVID-19 vaccination. The authors present a case report of a patient who developed multiple abscesses caused by Staphylococcus aureus after a COVID-19 vaccination. The patient had no previous symptoms or signs of infection. The patient was controlled successfully after surgical and antibiotics treatment.

  • 합동 해안경계시스템은 해상경계시스템과 해안대침투경계시스템으로 구성되며 주로 해군이 해상경계를, 육군이 해안경계를 책임지고 있는 시스템이다. 해군 및 육군의 다양한 무기체계가 복합적으로 운용되는 해안경계시스템의 작전효과를 시뮬레이션 기법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 작전효과 분석을 통해 현재 운용중인 해안경계시스템의 기상상태별 작전성공률 계량화가 가능하였다. 연구결과는 효과적인 합동 해안경계시스템을 구축하고 체계적인 경계작전을 수행하는데 활용될 수 있다.

  • 대화형 추천 시스템은 대화를 통해 사용자의 현재 선호도를 파악하고 상품을 추천해주는 시스템이다. 대화의 맥락은 변화하기 때문에 대화 중 최근 언급된 엔티티가 사용자의 현재 선호와 더 관련이 있다. 그러나, 기존 방법들은 언급된 엔티티들의 순서를 고려하지 않았기 때문에 사용자의 현재 선호도를 표현하는데 한계가 존재한다. 본 논문에서는, 대화 내 언급된 엔티티들의 순서를 고려하는 아키텍처를 제안하고, 실세계 데이터를 활용해 다음 상품을 예측하는데 엔티티 순서를 고려하는 것이 효과적인지 실험을 통해 보여준다.

  • ChatGPT has had a significant impact on society, business, and academia by influencing individuals and organizations through knowledge generation and supporting users in locating conversational inquiries and answers. It can transform how people seek answers by combining human-like conversational skills with AI. By eradicating the cumbersome process of selecting from multiple options, users can conduct preliminary research or create optimized solutions. The purpose of this research is to investigate how consumers use ChatGPT and digital transformation, specifically in terms of knowledge development, searching and recommending, and optimizing accessible possibilities. Using many linked theories, we address the potential implications and insights that can be gained from ChatGPT's early stages and its integration with other applications such as robotics, service automation, and the metaverse. Finally, the application of ChatGPT has practical, theoretical, and phenomenological impacts, in addition to improving users' experiences.

Lung lobe torsion in a dog with a tracheal stent for severe tracheal collapse

  • A 7-year-old castrated male Pomeranian dog presented with severe goose honking cough and dyspnea. Thoracic radiographs revealed a narrowed tracheal diameter at the thoracic inlet, classified as tracheal collapse grade 4. Despite medical treatment, the dog's life-threatening airway obstruction did not improve. Subsequently, tracheal stent placement resulted in a significant improvement in respiratory condition, with no recurrence of symptoms observed during the 4-month period, except for coughing induced by excitement and anxiety. However, the patient presented with a one-week history of productive cough, exercise intolerance, and loss of appetite. Radiographs and computed tomography scans revealed torsion of the left cranial lung lobe. The patient underwent affected lung lobectomy, which involved the removal of the necrotized cranial portion and heavily congested caudal portion. Unfortunately, the patient did not recover and eventually passed away. Histopathological examination of the resected lung tissue confirmed coagulative necrosis and marked peribronchiolar edema, consistent with lung lobe torsion.

Laccase Fermentation of Clove Extract Increases Content of Dehydrodieugenol, Which Has Neuroprotective Activity against Glutamate Toxicity in HT22 Cells

  • Enzyme fermentation is a type of food processing technique generally used to improve the biological activities of food and herbal medicines. In this study, a Syzygii Flos (clove) extract was fermented using laccase derived from Trametes versicolor (LTV). The fermented clove extract showed greater neuroprotective effects against glutamate toxicity on HT22 than the non-fermented extract did. HPLC analysis revealed that the eugenol (1) and dehydrodieugenol (2) contents had decreased and increased, respectively, after fermentation. The content of 2 peaked at 1 h after fermentation to $103.50{\pm}8.20mg/g_{ex}$ (not detected at zero time), while that of 1 decreased to $79.54{\pm}4.77mg/g_{ex}$ ($185.41{\pm}10.16mg/g_{ex}$ at zero time). Compound 2 demonstrated promising HT22 neuroprotective properties with inhibition of $Ca^{2+}$ influx, the overproduction of intracellular reactive oxygen species, and lipid peroxidation. In addition, LTV showed the best fermentation efficacy compared with laccases derived from Pleurotus ostreatus and Rhus vernicifera.

Inhibitory effects of lysozyme on endothelial protein C 1receptor shedding in vitro and in vivo

  • Lysozyme protects us from the ever-present danger of bacterial infection and binds to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) with high affinity. Beyond its role in the activation of protein C, the endothelial cell protein C receptor (EPCR) plays an important role in the cytoprotective pathway. EPCR can be shed from the cell surface, which is mediated by tumor necrosis factor-α converting enzyme (TACE). However, little is known about the effects of lysozyme on EPCR shedding. We investigated this issue by monitoring the effects of lysozyme on phorbol-12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA)-, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-, interleukin (IL)-1βand cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-mediated EPCR shedding and underlying mechanism. Data demonstrate that lysozyme induced potent inhibition of PMA-, TNF-α-, IL-1β-, and CLP-induced EPCR shedding. Lysozyme also inhibited the expression and activity of PMA-induced TACE in endothelial cells. These results demonstrate the potential of lysozyme as an anti-EPCR shedding reagent against PMA-mediated and CLP-mediated EPCR shedding.

  • 차량 전 후방의 센서 감지 기법은 주행 중 차량 충돌을 예측하고 이를 운전자에게 알려줌으로써 사고를 예방하는 시스템이다. 안전운행을 위한 센서의 감지 기법과 센서 알고리즘에 대한 연구가 지속적으로 이루어지고 있으며 특히 센서 감지 효과가 매우 중요한 과제중의 하나이다. 본 연구는 이러한 센서 감지 효과에 관심을 가져 초음파 센서 회전을 이용한 센서 감지 정보 분석을 통하여 감지 효율성을 높이고자 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 초음파 센서 배치와 회전 실험의 결과를 통해 안전운전을 위한 센서의 배치와 회전정도를 제안한다.

세종지역 유통 식육의 플루오로퀴놀론계 항생제 잔류 연구 (Monitoring for fluoroquinolones residues in raw meat in Sejong)

  • This study describes an analytical method based on LC-MS/MS for the quantitation of 5 fluoroquinolones (Enrofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin, Marbofloxacin, Norfloxacin and Danofloxacin) in meat, and was applied to 230 meat samples for validation. Quantitation was performed based on a matrix-matched calibration to compensate for the matrix effect on the electrospray ionization. Good linear calibrations (R2≥0.998) were obtained for all fluoroquinolones at 6 concentrations of 1~50 ㎍/kg. Satisfied recoveries of all fluoroquinolones were demonstrated in spiked meat at three levels from 10 to 50 ㎍/kg. The recoveries ranged between 75.8~99.2% in beef, 80.1~99.6% in pork and 72.2~99.8% in chicken, respectively. The limits of quantitation (LOQs) for fluoroquinolones ranged from 0.7 to 3.2 ㎍/kg. We also monitored fluoroquinolones residue in the sample (beef 107, pork 71, chicken 52) using LC-MS/MS. Residues of fluoroquinolones which exceeded maximum residue limits (MRL) were not exceed in any of the 230 samples.
