  • The $PM_{10}$ concentration data is useful for indentifying intensity and a transport way of Asian dust. However, it is difficult to identify them properly due to the limited spatial resolution and coverage. Therefore, a methodology to estimate $PM_{10}$ concentration using visibility data obtained from synoptic observation was developed. To derive the converting function, correlation between visibility and $PM_{10}$ concentration is investigated using visibility and $PM_{10}$ concentration data observed at 20 stations in Korea from 2005 to 2009. To minimize bias due to atmospheric moisture, data with higher relative humidity over a critical value were eliminated while deriving $PM_{10}$-visibility relationship. As a result, an exponentially decreasing function of visibility is obtained under the condition that relative humidity is less than 82%. Verification of the visibility converting function to $PM_{10}$ concentration was carried out for the dust cases in 2010. It was found that spatial distributions of $PM_{10}$ calculated by visibility are in good agreement with the observed $PM_{10}$ distribution, especially for the strong dust cases in 2010. And correlation between the derived and observed $PM_{10}$ concentration was 0.63. We applied the function to obtain distributions of $PM_{10}$ concentration over North Korea, in which concentration data are not available, and compared them with satellite derived dust index, IODI distributions for dust cases in 2010. It is shown that the visibility function estimates quite similar patterns of dust concentration with IODI image, which suggests that it can contribute for prediction by indentifying transport route of Asian dust.

  • In this study, we used the rectal balloon to overcome the dose limit of the radiation therapy in the prostate cancer. Using the rectal balloon, we could minimize the planning target volume (PTV) by minimizing the internal motion of prostate and increased the gap between the rectum wall and the high dose region. To this purpose, we analyzed the position reproducibility of rectal balloon during the patient setup. Moreover, we studied the clinical feasibility of rectal balloon by performing the IMRT plan.

  • In order to investigate the possibility of treating the different mixture ratios of apple pomace and nightsoil sludge by vermicomposting was performed and the stability of worm casts, and availability of worm casts as plant growth media was evaluated by the analysis of chemical composition. The results were obtained as follows ; 1. The value of cast production at 100% apple pomace treatment was higher than those of other mixture ratios of apple pomace and nightsoil sludge. 2. The highest values of increasing rate and reproductive efficiency were obtained at mixture ratios of 60% apple pomace with 40% nightsoil sludge. 3. The value of increasing rate at 100% nightsoil sludge treatment was lower that those of other mixture ratios of apple pomace and nightsoil sludge. 4. Organic matter, available inorganic nutrients and stability of worm casts showed high values in all treatments. It means that worm casts are an excellent plant growth media source with a high chemical composition and their stability.

  • Visibility of the satellite navigation is related to a environmental condition of a receiver. Obstacles like buildings and trees in urban areas can block signals and have effects on accuracy and reliability of positioning. This paper presents a method of creating 3D analysis model of urban canyon of Seoul using three-Dimensional digital map. Analysis techniques of visible satellites with Ray-Polygon Collision Detection and validation of algorithm through field tests are discussed. We have compared and analyzed the visibility of GPS and Galileo with respect to separate and simultaneous tracking in view of DOP (Dilution of Precision) using the 3D GIS digital map.

  • A gene encoding a $\gamma-butyrolactone$ autoregulator receptor was cloned from Saccharopolyspora erythraea, and the biochemical characteristics, including the autoregulator specificity, were determined with the purified recombinant protein. Using primers designed for the conserved amino acid sequence of Streptomyces $\gamma-butyrolactone$ autoregulator receptors, a 120 bp S. erythraea DNA fragment was obtained by PCR. Southern and colony hybridization with the 120 bp fragment as a probe allowed to select a genomic clone of S. erythraea, pESG, harboring a 3.2 kb SacI fragment. Nucleotide sequencing analysis revealed a 615 bp open reading frame (ORF), showing moderate homology (identity, $31-34\%$; similarity, $45-47\%$) with the $\gamma-butyrolactone$ autoregulator receptors from Streptomyces sp., and this ORF was named seaR (Saccharopolyspora erythraea autoregulator receptor). The seaR/pET-3d plasmid was constructed to overexpress the recombinant SeaR protein (rSeaR) in Escherichia coli, and the rSeaR protein was purified to homogeneity by DEAE-Sephacel column chromatography, followed by DEAE-ion-exchange HPLC. The molecular mass of the purified rSeaR protein was 52 kDa by HPLC gel-filtration chromatography and 27 kDa by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, indicating that the rSeaR protein is present as a dimer. A binding assay with tritium-labeled autoregulators revealed that rSeaR has clear binding activity with a VB-C-type autoregulator as the most effective ligand, demonstrating for the first time that the erythromycin producer S. erythraea possesses a gene for the $\gamma-butyrolactone$autoregulator receptor.

  • Lacidipine used for the treatment of hypertension has low water solubility and is classified as BCS Class II category. Gelucire-based solid dispersions (SD) containing lacidipine were prepared by solvent evaporation method to enhance drug dissolution. The powdered forms of SD showed irregularly spherical shape. Thermal behaviors of SD from differential scanning calorimetry indicated that distinct endothermic peak of lacidipine ($184^{\circ}C$) was shifted to lower region ($150.1^{\circ}C$). Drug was present in a crystalline form. NMR spectra also showed some molecular interaction between drug and Gelucire. There was no significant difference in DSC and NMR behaviors between Gelucire 44/14 and Gelucire 50/13. The initial dissolution rate of SD-loaded tablet linearly increased both in water and in water containing 1% tween 20, and much higher than the commercial tablet, $Vaxar^{(R)}$. When the amount of SD was increased, the release rate was greater. The Gelucire 50/13 showed higher dissolution than the Gelucire 44/14. The produced solid dispersion with various kinds of excipients and making tablets, it was found that solid dispersions can increase the solubility in artificial gastric juice and finally increases dissolution rate.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of cottonseed and soybean meal on growth performance of juvenile olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). Nine hundred fish $(0.74{\pm}0.11g)$ in the early juvenile stage were randomly divided into 15 groups, and 3 groups were fed one of five isonitrogenous (56% CP) and isocaloric $(16.3\;MJ\;kg^{-1})$ diets replacing 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40% of fish meal protein by equal proportion (1:1, w:w) of cottonseed and soybean meal (CS) (designated by Control, CS10, CS20, CS30, and CS40, respectively). A solvent extracted cottonseed meal containing high crude protein (44%) and low fiber content (<12%) was used in this study. After 10 weeks of feeding trial, the growth offish fed diets CS10, CS20, and CS30 were not significantly (P>0.05) different compared to that of fish fed the control diet. However, diet CS40 exhibited significantly lower (P<0.05) growth performance than the control diet. No differences were observed in whole body composition of fish fed all the experimental diets. This study indicates that mixture of cottonseed and soybean meal with lysine and methionine supplementation can replace up to 30% fish meal protein in diet for olive founder at the early juvenile stage. However, we suggest that 20% of fish meal protein replacement by cottonseed (10%) and soybean (10%) meal can be the optimum level for commercial use in safety according to the growth performances.

  • As high rise buildings with 100 or more stories are being constructed, it is inevitable to use high performance materials including high performance concrete. What is most important in high performance concrete is extremely high strength in order to reduce the section of members in high rise buildings. During the last several years, there have been active researches on Ultra high strength concrete. While these researches have been mostly focused on strength development, however, other accompanying physical properties have not been studied sufficiently. Thus, the present study purposed to obtain and analyze data on the physical mechanical properties of Ultra high strength concrete through experiments and to use the results as basic information on required performance of concrete used in high rise buildings.

  • The autogenous shrinkage of HPC is important in that it can lead the early cracks in concrete structures. The purpose of the present study is to explore the autogenous shrinkage of HPC with cellulose fiber and expansive additive and to derive a realistic equation to estimate the autogenous shrinkage model of that. For this purpose, comprehensive experimental program has been set up to observe the autogenous shrinkage for various test series. Major test variables were the quantity of expansive additive and cellulose fiber. Water-cement ratio is fixed with 13%. The autogenous shrinkage of HPC is found to decrease with increasing expansive additive and cellulose fiber. A prediction equation to estimate the autogenous shrinkage of HPC was derived and proposed in this study. The proposed equation shows reasonably good correlation with test data on autogenous shrinkage of HPC.

  • The occurrence of PVNS in the TMJ is very rare. We report a case of PVNS which was misdiagnosed as a parotid tumor at first. CT and conventional radiograph revealed a well defined mass demonstrating higher attenuation than adjacent soft tissue. Erosion and expansion of the cortical plate of the mandibular condyle and sclerotic change beneath the margin of the lesion were also shown. MRI demonstrated well defined mass of very low signal intensity on both Tl and T2-weighted images due to ferromagnetic effect of the high concentrated hemosiderin and clearly delineated the extent of the lesion. Histopathologic findings and characteristic appearance of the various imaging methods were described and the usefulness of these images for diagnosis and pretreatment evaluation of PVNS were also discussed.
