A Clinicopathological Review of Verruca Vulgaris Occurring in the Oral Cavity (구강에 발생한 심상성 사마귀의 임상병리학적 특징)

  • Verruca vulgaris is one of the most frequent lesions of the skin. Evidences support that this lesion has strong association with low-risk human papillomavirus. Unlike skin lesion, oral verrucae vulgaris are not easily encountered and often misdiagnosed as squamous papilloma. Herein, we reported eight cases of oral verruca vulgaris and analyzed their clinicopathological features.

  • Polyurethane foam impregnated with ${\beta}$-diphenylglyoxime has been applied to the extraction of palladium(II) from platinum(IV) and nickel(II) in aqueous solution. Palladium(II) is quantitatively extracted from $0.01{sim}0.05M$ HCl. On the other hand, platinum(Ⅳ) was slightly extracted and nickel(II) was not found to be extraction in the same experimental condition. Based on the results obtained, the selective separation, removal and recovery of Pd(II) from Pt(IV) or Ni(II) was possible by batch or elution method.

Amino-Functionalized Alkylsilane SAM-Assisted Patterning of Poly(3-hexylthiophene) Nanofilm Robustly Adhered to SiO2 Substrate

  • We report a novel patterning method for a homo-polymeric poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) nanofilm particularly capable of strong adhesion to a $SiO_2$ surface. An oxidized silicon wafer substrate was micro-contact printed with n-octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) monolayer, and subsequently its negative pattern was selfassembled with three different amino-functionalized alkylsilanes, (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (APS), N- (2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxy silane (EDAS), and (3-trimethoxysilylpropyl) diethylenetriamine (DETAS). Then, P3HT nanofilms were selectively grown on the aminosilane pre-patterned areas via the vapor phase polymerization method. To evaluate the adhesion, patterning, and the film itself, the PEDOT nanofilms and SAMs were investigated with a $Scotch^{(R)}$ tape test, contact angle analyzer, ATR-FT-IR, and optical and atomic force microscopes. The evaluation showed that the newly developed all bottom-up process can offer a simple and inexpensive patterning method for P3HT nanofilms robustly adhered to an oxidized Si wafer surface by the mediation of $FeCl_3$ and amino-functionalized alkylsilane SAMs.

  • Several higher fungi were collected at Andong during the summer and fall of 1976. About 100 higher fungi were collected at Mt: Sobaek and Youngju during the same period in 1978. These higher fungi were identified. As the results, Macrocystidia proved to be new genus in Korea. And the following are also newly-found species in Korea: Hygrocybe turunda (Fr.) Karst., Hygrophorus lucorum Kalchbr., Macrocystidia cucumis (Fr.) Heim var. latifolia (Lange) Imazeki et Hongo, Agaricus subrufescens Peck, Psathyrella hydrophila (Bull. ex Fr.) A.H. Smith, Stropharia rugosannulata Farlow f. lutea Hongo, Inocybe bresadolae Mass., Inocybe multicoronata A.H. Smith, Russula farinihes Romell and Lactarius sakamotoi Imai.

Populations of Fungi and Bacteria Associated with Samples of Stored Rice in Korea

  • Stored rice was collected from rice processing complexes of National Agricultural Cooperative Federation of 11 regions in Korea to evaluate the occurrence of fungi and bacteria and to identify the predominant fungi and bacteria to the genus levels. Most rice samples generally produced the higher levels of fungi and bacteria than white rice. The occurrence of fungi and bacteria varied in various locations of Korea. Among fungi observed, Aspergillus spp. and Penicillium spp. were dominant in the samples and Aspergillus spp. were observed more frequently than Penicillium spp. Predominant bacteria from rice and white rice samples tentatively belonged to the Genus Bacillus, Pectobacterium, Pantoea, and Microbacterium according to BIOLOG and FAME analyses. The results of this study showed that rice in Korea was contaminated in a relatively high level by two dominant storage fungi such as Aspergillus spp. and Penicillium spp. In addition, occurrence of mycotoxins in rice by the fungi could be possible and thus it is necessary to control the storage fungi.

  • Recently, many social, economical and political problems have occurred in the field of urban energy supply because of the depletion of fossil fuels and the international climate change agreements and the current energy-related laws focus on individual buildings which makes them difficult to implement. Also, the policies for energy savings have increased day by day, but it is difficult to establish efficient urban plan because of lack of integrated policies and institutions. Current legal systems for urban plan does not cover domestic and international climate change agreements, energy related industry's structural changes and other environmental problems such as embodied energy and global warming. This paper tries to investigate current conditions of legal system to provide fundamental materials for improving energy conservation in urban plan.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze inhibitory effects of anti-4-1BB monoclonal antibody on melanoma metastasis The 4-1BB (CD137) T cell molecule is a member of the TNF receptor family and its activation by either 4-1BB ligand or antibody induces T cell activation and growth. In the present study, administration of anti-4-1BB mAb induced inhibition of melanoma metastasis. Agonistic anti-4-1BB mAb induced not only CD$8^+$4-1BBT cells but also CD$8^+$IFN-${\gamma}$$^{+}$ T cell population. In the presence of anti-CD3 antibody, lymphocytes produced high levels of IFN-${\gamma}$ and low levels of IL-4 in anti-4-1BB mAb treated group. Exposure of melanoma cells to IFN-${\gamma}$ induced expression of MHC-I molecules. Thus, the increase in number of CD$8^+$T cells and enhanced MHC-I expression on B16F10 cells by augmented IFN-${\gamma}$ production in response to anti-4-1BB mAb may result in suppression of tumor growth and metastasis.s.

Factors Affecting Fear of Falling in Stroke Patients (뇌졸중으로 요양병원에 입원한 환자의 낙상에 대한 두려움 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This study aims to investigate the fear of falling of stroke patients and identify factors affecting the fear of falling. Method: For basic data, structured questionnaires were used for 137 stroke patients in hospitals in B city sampled for this study from June to August, 2010. Results: A multiple regression analysis used to identify variables affecting the fear of falling of stroke patients indicates that the most affecting variable was activities of daily living (${\beta}$=-.558), followed by self-efficacy of falling (${\beta}$=-.223), primary caregiver (${\beta}$=-.118), perception of health (${\beta}$=-.128) and drunken status (${\beta}$=-.108). Total variance explained by activities of daily living, self-efficacy of falling, the primary caregiver, perception of health and drunken status was 81.2% (F=70.845, $R^2$=.812). Conclusion: As discussed above, the factors significantly affecting the fear of falling in stroke patients were activities of daily living and self-efficacy of falling. Therefore, in order to reduce fear of falling of stroke patients and prevent falling, it is suggested that programs should be developed that will improve self-efficacy of falling and daily living activities.

Underwater Stability of Surface Chemically Modified Superhydrophobic W18O49 Nanowire Arrays

  • Superhydrophobic W18O49 nanowire (NW) arrays were synthesizedusing a thermal evaporation and surface chemistry modification methods by self-assembled monolayer (SAM). As-prepared non-wetting W18O49 NWs surface shows water contact angle of $163.2^{\circ}$ and has reliable stability in underwater conditions. Hence the superhydrophobic W18O49 NWs surface exhibits silvery surface by total reflection of water layer and air interlayer. The stability analysus of underwater superhydrophobicity of W18O49 NWs arrays was conducted by changing hydrostatic pressure and surface energy of W18O49 NWs arrays. The stability of superhydrophobicity in underwater conditions decreased exponentially as hydrostatic pressure applied to the substrates increased3. In addition, as surface energy decreased, the underwater stability of superhydrophobic surface increased sharply. Specifically, sueprhydrophobic stability increased exponentially as surface energy of W18O49 NWs arrays was decreased. Based on these results, the models for explaining tendencies of superhydrophobic stability underwater resulting from hydrostatic pressure and surface energy were designed. The combination of fugacity and Laplace pressure explained this exponential decay of stability according to hydrostatic pressure and surface energy. This study on fabrication and modeling of underwater stability of superhydrophobic W18O49 NW arrays will help in designing highly stable superhydrophobic surfaces and broadening fields of superhydrophobic applications even submerged underwater.

Thermal Analysis for Improvement of Heat Dissipation Performance of the Rail Anchoring Failure Detection Module (레일 체결구 결함 검측 모듈의 방열성능 개선을 위한 열 해석)

  • In this paper, various heat dissipation designs for a rail anchoring failure detection module were investigated by a thermal flow analysis. For the detection module with the heat dissipation design on the overall housing surface, an average temperature inside the module was lowered by $25^{\circ}C$ when compared to no heat dissipation design. In addition, an internal heat-flow blocking layer and an heat conduction layer inserted between the LED module and housing case were effective in reducing the temperature in the rail anchoring failure detection, which has a limited space for installation and little air flow. Especially, the temperature near LED module decreased below $55^{\circ}C$ when the optimal heat dissipation design was applied.
