Microsurgical Replantation of A Partial Ear with Arteriole Anastomosis

  • Ear reconstruction is very difficult to perform and often results in a devastating deformity. The use of microsurgical replantation techniques has allowed very favorable anesthetic results. We report a case of a partial ear replantation without venous repair with the use of medicinal leeches to decompress the acute venous congestion during the postoperative care. The medicinal leech therapy can be very useful in a partial ear replantation in cases with no venous repair.

  • B2B(business-to-business) commerce has become the prime driver of contemporary electronic commerce. Under B2B commerce, corporations often must operate across organizational boundaries to share their business processes. Workflow management was proposed by Aalst(4, 5) to support several business partners that are involved in shared workflow processes in B2B commerce. We designed a messaging system for B2B workflow, where heterogeneous workflow management systems on each organization for trade were integrated. Based on Aalst's example in(4, 5), we analyzed B2B workflow by using class diagram, use case diagram, activity diagram, and statechart diagram of UML, and designed the messaging system, We also demonstrated a prototype system which was implemented by using Java API and XML. To compare with a holistic system such as EDI systems, the messaging system allows the business partners in B2B commerce to communicate with each other by dedicated messages and integrate each B2B interoperable workflow without any restrictions.

  • Water jet trajectories and velocity deficits from a high pressurize nozzles were experimentally observed. In this article, several parameters affecting plugging and erosion onto the steam generator tube were quantitatively analyzed. Visualization, velocity distribution, and spray growth rate with different nozzle configurations have been mainly focused using a 2-D PDPA (Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) system. The results indicated that trajectories along the centerline regardless of their momentum has its potential core region. However, the phenomena from the peripheral part need to be meticulosly considered. Accordingly, it is evident that quantitative velocity deficits at the outer region are outstanding due to the aerodynamical drag and entrainment.

Cloning and Expression in Escherichia coli of Cellulase Genes from a Mesophilic Clostridium sp.

  • A genomic library of a mesophilic cellulolytic anaerobe, Clostridium sp. KCTC 8440 DNA was constructed in Escherichia coli using plasmid pUC9. Clones of E. coli exhibiting carboxymethyl cellulose-hydrolyzing activity (CMCase) were isolated and divided into seven types based on the restriction enzyme patterns of recombinant plasmids. E. coli strains carrying type A genes showed activity on carboxymethyl cellulose about 7-8 times greater than clones carrying genes of other types. Restriction maps of the cloned DNA fragments were determined, and homologies between them were investigated. The results suggest that Clostridium sp. KCTC 8440 has seven distinct CMCase genes.

  • Densification behavior of 316L stainless steel power under die pressing was studied. The efects of friction between the powder and die wall under different die pressing modes were also investigated. The elastoplastic constitutive equations based on the yield functions of Fleck-Gurson and of Shima and Oyane were implemented into finite element program(ABAQUS) to simulate die compaction processes. The finite element results were compared with experimental data for 316L stainless steel powder under die pressing.

  • 최근에 노트북 컴퓨터의 가격 하락과 더불어 보급이 급속도로 확산되고 있다. 노트북 컴퓨터 간의 경쟁에서 얼마나 더 얇고 가볍게 만들 수 있는가는 가치 차별화의 근간이 된다. 따라서 노트북 컴퓨터의 박형화에서 HDD 나 ODD 같은 핵심 주변장치의 박형화는 핵심 이슈이다. 본 논문에서는 기존 노트북용 박형 광저장장치의 엑추에이터 개발에 있어서 보다 안정적인 제어가 될 수 있는 구조를 소개하고 엑추에이터의 실제 데이터를 이용하여 서보 제어에 있어서의 설계마진을 고찰해 보고자 한다.

Antifungal Activity of Plumbagin Purified from Leaves of Nepenthes ventricosa x maxima against Phytopathogenic Fungi

  • A kind of naphthoquinone, plumbagin was purified and identified from the leaves of Nepenthes $ventricosa\;{\times}\;maxima$ through solvent extraction, silica gel column chromatography, and recrystallization. The yield (0.51%) was higher than that of the root of Plumbago scandens (0.26%), P. capensis (0.15%), and N. thorelii (0.092%). It exhibited antifungal activity against all plant pathogenic fungi tested, Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus niger, Bipolaris oryzae, Fusarium oxysporum, Phytophthora capsici, Rhizoctonia solani, Rhizopus stolonifer var. stolonifer and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. The minimum inhibitory concentration values ranged from about 4.8 to $56.6\;{\mu}g/ml$ against the above eight fungi and R. solani was the most sensitive.

Clamping Analysis and Design of a Package of a Microwave Oven (전자레인지 포장품의 클램핑 해석 및 설계)

  • Behavior of a package of a microwave oven under the clamping condition is evaluated by tests and the finite element analyses. PAM-CRASH software is used for the finite element analyses. Results of the analyses are compared with those of the tests and accuracy is shown to be favorable. Under the clamping condition of the original design, severe deformation occurs and an improved design of the outer case and upper EPS(Expandable Poly Styrene) is proposed to reduce it. Face beads of the outer case are introduced and shape of the upper EPS is modified to reduce the deformation resulting from the clamping load. The improved design model is analyzed and its deformation is shown to be satisfactory. A prototype is produced according to the improved design and tests are performed. Results of the clamping test of the prototype show that the plastic deformation is removed totally.
