Flow-Dependent Friction Loss in an Implantable Artificial Lung

  • The goal of this work is to design and build an implantable artificial lung that can be inserted as a whole into a large vein in the body with the least effect on cardiovascular hemodynamics. The experimental results demonstrate that the pressure drop is not entirely related to viscosity effects. The friction factor decreases with an increase in the number of tied-hollow fibers at a constant Reynolds number A uniform flow pattern without stagnation is observed at all numbers of tied hollow fibers tested. The tied hollow fiber module, built in this study with 3 cm of outer diameter of module. 380 m of outer diameter of tied hollow fiber, and 700 number of tied hollow fiber with length of 60 cm, which shows a pressure drop of 13-16 mmHg, satisfies the required pressure drop qualifying 15 mmHg as an intravascular artificial lung.

Fatigue Crack Propagation Behavior in STS304 Under Mixed-Mode Loading

  • The use of fracture mechanics has traditionally concentrated on crack growth under an opening mechanism. However, many service failures occur from cracks subjected to mixed-mode loading. Hence, it is necessary to evaluate the fatigue behavior under mixed-mode loading. Under mixed-mode loading, not only the fatigue crack propagation rate is of importance, but also the crack propagation direction. In modified range 0.3$\leq$a/W$\leq$0.5, the stress intensity factors (SIFs) of mode I and mode II for the compact tension shear (CTS) specimen were calculated by using elastic finite element analysis. The propagation behavior of the fatigue cracks of cold rolled stainless steels (STS304) under mixed-mode conditions was evaluated by using K$\_$I/ and $_{4}$ (SIFs of mode I and mode II). The maximum tangential stress (MTS) criterion and stress intensity factor were applied to predict the crack propagation direction and the propagation behavior of fatigue cracks.

ENTRAINMENT OF SEDIMENT PARTICLES FROM SCOUR HOLE BY TURBULENT VORTICES DOWNSTREAM OF HYDRAULIC STRUCTURE

  • This study presents the estimation of the entrainment velocity of sediment particles from the scour hole. Sediment particles are entrained from the scour hole downstream of hydraulic structures by the turbulent vortices. Mathematical form of the entrainment velocity of sediment particles from the scour hole was obtained using the impulse-momentum equation with given value of the vertical component of turbulent velocity of the line vortex. Also, its probability density distribution was obtained with the results that the probability density distribution of the vertical turbulent velocity followed the normal distribution. Experimental results of the entrainment velocity of sediment particles showed relatively good agreements with theoretical ones.

  • Since South Korea has uneven rainfall and deteriorating water quality, it is imperative to create a comprehensive water resources policy and management. This paper is to adopt a win-win policy for upstream-downstream local governments that have been in water rights-related disputer or conflicts in the process of allocating water and maintaining water quality. The Win-Win Policy can be an integrated river-basin approach. We define the win-win policy, introduce the win-win case of Delaware River and Colorado River in the United States, and suggest the win-win policy for Nakdong River in South Korea. Nakdong River is chosen for this paper because it has more serious problems in preserving water quantity and maintaining water quality.

  • 일반적인 피난모델은 건물 화재시의 상황을 예측해보기 위해 제작된 것들이다. 이들을 사용하여 철도차량 내부에서의 피난상황을 예측해보기 위해서는 각 출입문에서의 유동에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 특히 터널 내 정차와 같이 차량바닥과 지면의 차이가 존재하는 경우는 현재 자료가 없는 상황이다. 이는 철도차량뿐만 아니라 차량에서 나간이후에 경유하게 되는 터널이나 역사의 피난을 평가하는 데도 매우 중요한 자료이다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 지하철 차량에서의 피난 현상 중에서 차량과 차량간의 이동과 차량에서 선로로의 이동에 대한 현상을 실험을 통해 분석해보았다.

Controller Design of a MEMS Gyro-Accelerometer with a Single Proof Mass

  • This paper presents a parametric study on the controller design scheme for a gyro-accelerometer to have robust performance under some parameter variations. In particular, an integral and derivative based controller design method is suggested to achieve the desired performances of stability margin, bandwidth, and uniformity of scale for both gyroscopes and accelerometers with uncertainties of quality factor and resonant frequency. The simulation result shows that the control loop based on the suggested method gives satisfactory performance robustness under parameter variations, demonstrating the usefulness of the proposed design scheme.

  • In this study, We proposed high efficiency wind power generator system for induction generator used SVPWM swiching inverter. First, We suggest Equivalient Circuit for Ind Generator, it's characteristics equation, and equation of slip. In addition, we suggest Pick Traction Slip control methods. adapted variable power system. We study simulation result fo suggested system and output power by slip e and we identify SVPWM of suitable wind p system by comparison between SPWM and SVPW Consequently, we show that the control result variable wind power is suitable.

  • We report the readout stability improvement results of super-resolution near field structure (Super-RENS) writeonce read-many (WORM) disk at a blue laser optical system. (Laser wavelength 405nm, numerical aperture 0.85) By using diffusion barrier structure (GeSbTe sandwiched by GeN) and high transition temperature recording material ($BaTiO_3$), material diffusion of phase change layer and recording mark degradation were greatly improved during high power (Pr=2.0mW) readout process up to $1{\times}10^5$ times.

  • 본 논문에서는 기존의 클러스터 기반 퍼지 모델트리에서 트리의 깊이에 따른 over-fitting으로 인한 훈련 및 검증데이터의 일관성 문제점을 해결하기 위해 상호 노드간의 정보를 고려하는 방법을 제안하고자 한다. 제안된 방법은 우선 입력과 출력변수의 속성을 고려한 퍼지 클러스터링에 의해 중심벡터를 계산한 후, 중심벡터들과 입력 속성간의 소속도를 이용하여 구간 분할된 영역별로 각각의 선형모델을 구축한다. 예측 단계에서는 입력된 데이터가 잎노드에 도달하는 노드간의 중심벡터와 입력 데이터간의 거리값에 따른 소속도를 계산한 후 최종적으로 무게 중심법을 이용하여 출력값을 예측하게 된다. 제안된 방법의 우수성을 보이기 위해 다양한 벤치마크 데이터를 대상을 실험한 결과, 기존의 클러스터 기반 퍼지 모델트리보다 향상된 성능을 보임을 알 수 있었다.

  • The improved accuracy of the Land Cover/Land Use Map constructed using Hyperspectal Satellite Image and the possibility of real time classification of Land Use using optimal Band Selective Factor enable the change detection from automatic classification using the existed Land Cover/Land Use Map and the newly acquired Hyperspectral Satellite Image. In this study, the effective analysis techniques for automatic generation of training regions, automatic classification and automatic change detection are proposed to minimize the expert's interpretation for automatic update of the Land Cover/Land Use Map. The proposed algorithms performed successfully the automatic Land Cover/Land Use Map construction, automatic change detection and automatic update on the image which contained the changed region. It would increase applicability in actual services. Also, it would be expected to present the effective methods of constructing national land monitoring system.
