Mobile Presentation using Transcoding Method of Region of Interest (관심 영역의 트랜스코딩 기법을 이용한 모바일 프리젠테이션)

  • An effective integration of web-based learning environment and mobile device technology is considered as a new challenge to the developers. The screen size, however, of the mobile device is too small, and its performance is too inferior. Due to the foregoing limit of mobile technology, displaying bulk data on the mobile screen, such as a cyber lecture accompanied with real-time image transmission on the web, raises a lot of problems. Users have difficulty in recognizing learning contents exactly by means of a mobile device, and continuous transmission of video stream with bulky information to the mobile device arouses a lot of load for the mobile system. Thus, an application which is developed to be applied in PC is improper to be used for the mobile device as it is, a player which is fitting for the mobile device should be developed. Accordingly, this paper suggests mobile presentation using transcoding techniques of the field concerned. To display continuous video frames of learning image, such as a cyber lecture or remote lecture, by means of a mobile device, the performance difference between high-resolution digital image and mobile device should be surmounted. As the transcoding techniques to settle the performance difference causes damage of image quality, high-quality image may be guaranteed by application of trial and error between transcoding and selected learning resources.

  • This study analyzed cases of teaching consulting in the cyber university field and activated it in a remote university in the right direction to contribute to the development of high quality contents. This study analyzed the instructional consulting data of the Center for Content Quality Management at A Cyber University in Chungnam area and interviewed researchers working at the center using the phenomenological approach based on the data. This study showed that the professors participating in instructional consulting had many problems, but they were relatively active in improving the quality of the lectures. They wanted to know the teaching methods in the unfamiliar environment of remote universities. In addition, the researchers had difficulty in delivering feedback to the instructor through the process of exploring images taken several times with the objective framework of lecture evaluation. To allow better communication, it was necessary to form rapport between the instructor and researcher. Unlike general universities, cyber universities have features and limitations in that they only take cameras in the classroom without learners and proceed with class consulting. Therefore, the teachers have a feeling of burden about shooting and recording, but they are less than general university teachers, and are more willing to engage in class consultation more actively. In this study, the results of the research was discussed and the proposal of cyber universities' instruction consulting and the effective plan is proposed.

  • This research was conducted in order to know how influential the acknowledgment of factors such as the quality of educational contents and the conducting of off-line lectures is in terms of effective learning for leaners. Based on the satisfaction-importance model of the multi-attribute attitude model, this study would like to clarify the degree to which the quality of on-line contents of on-line education and the simultaneous conducting of off-line lectures influences one's learning attitude. On-line contents satisfaction will evaluated through the three categories: audio lectures, video lecture and WBI lectures, which make up the quality of on-line contents. We would also like to do a survey on the transformation of learning attitudes when on-line and off-line lectures were conducted simultaneously.

The Effects of 'Cancer Overcome Program' Using Strategy for Promoting Self-Efficacy among Family Caregivers with Lung Cancer in Korea (자기효능증진 전략을 이용한 암극복 프로그램의 효과 II -폐암가족을 중심으로-)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the effect of a structured group intervention on knowledge about lung cancer, self efficacy and quality of life for family caregivers of patients with lung cancer using a nonequivalent control groupquasi-experimental design. Methods: Subjects were 11 family caregivers for both the control and the experimental group. The experimental group participated in once a week for 2-hour session for 4 weeks. Four topics of educational program were lung cancer and treatment, side effects of treatments, symptoms management, and health management. Every session consisted of lecture, sharing experiences, and meditating time. Quality of life was measured using Jang(1996)'s tool. The tools for knowledge and self-efficacy were developed by the authors. Results: After the intervention, the experimental group showed higher self-efficacy in caring for the patients than did the controls. However, there were no significant differences in knowledge about lung cancer and quality of life between the two groups. Conclusion: Findings indicate that the group intervention would be effective for family caregivers of lung cancer patients.

Quality Assessment of Performance in the University Foodservice by Students Living in Incheon (인천지역 대학생에 의한 대학급식소의 급식서비스에 대한 품질 평가)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the quality assessment of performance of the university foodservice. Self administered questionnaires were collected from 305 students living in Incheon. Statistical data analysis was completed using a SPSS v. 10.0 program. The results were summarized as follows: 61.4% of male students and 48.1% of female students responded to have lunch regularly. Only 23.4% of male students and 14.1% of female students used the university foodservice daily. Reasons for the irregularity of lunch were responded as “lecture”, “eating when I want” and “appointment with friends”, etc. The quantity, temperature, nutritional value, appearance, hygiene, taste and freshness of foods and price of menus were evaluated as appropriate but using seasonal foods, number of side-dishes, etc. as unsatisfactory. Service speed, cloth hygiene, neatness and kindness of employee were evaluated as appropriate. For the facilities of foodservice, counter location, menu board and lighting facilities were evaluated as appropriate but heating facilities, disposition of tables and chairs of dining hall were as unsatisfactory. Sanitation of floors and walls of dining hall, restroom and utensils, etc. was evaluated as low.

  • Information society, which requires knowledge-workers having creative and active problem-solving ability, needs development of on-line educational contents technique from existing teacher-oriented to learner-oriented education. Special quality of most on-line studying contents is real condition that is not satisfying on-line studying special quality that learner-oriented becomes center by lacking functions of lecture progress of teacher-oriented, contents manufacture and contents offer platform than learner-oriented. A Bundled Educational Solution to Reduce Incorrect Plaster Splints Applied on Patients Discharged from Emergency Department

  • Purpose:Plaster splints are routinely performed in the Emergency Department (ED) and avoidable complications such as skin ulcerations and fracture instability arise mainly due to improper techniques. Despite its frequent use, there is often no formal training on the fundamental principles of plaster splint application for a medical officer rotating through ED. We aim to use Quality Improvement (QI) methodology to reduce number of incorrect plaster splint application to improve overall patient care via a bundled educational solution. Methods: We initiated a QI program implementing concepts derived from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement models, including Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles, to decrease the rate of incorrect plaster splint application. A bundled education solution consisting of three sequential interventions (practical teaching session, online video lecture and quick reference cards) were formulated to specifically target critical factors that had been identified as the cause of incorrect plaster splints in ED. Results: With the QI intervention, our overall rate of incorrect plaster splints was reduced from 84.1% to 68.6% over a 6-month period. Conclusion: Following the QI project implementation of the bundled educational solution, there has been a sustained reduction in incorrect plaster splints application. The continuation of the training program also ensures the sustainability of our efforts in ED.

A Study on Acoustic Characteristics of Music Practice Room in the University (대학교내 음악연습실의 음향특성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, since there appear the quality improvement in both educational and cultural level at the college campus also, thus the lecture room is requiring by the students where the intimacy degree among the students can be raised, also a smoother interaction between the professor and the student is able to be generated. Particularly in case of College of Music, the Practical Technique Training Rooms such as Orchestral Music Room, Pipe Music Concert Room, Music-Part Practice Room are more important for the interaction between Professor and Student or Student attends at the lesson, than the lecture rooms of any other colleges. Likewise, while such music practice room should be designed with consideration of the acoustic characteristics, so as to obtain the feel as if hear it performs at a music hall, but since the most of music practice room was designed with consideration of the convenience of construction work and its economical efficiency only, it has been exposed with many acoustic defects after the completion of construction. Therefore in this thesis, it has grasped the physical acoustic characteristics on the object of the two orchestral music rooms, pipe music concert room and ensemble practice room, among the newly constructed practice rooms of the Music College, W University, and it is considered that it could be utilized as the fundamental data on the base of this material when designing of the college music practice room, for the future.

  • One of the most significant characteristics of remote real time lecture, the emerging still image standard, is the OOI (Object of Interest) coding. The functionality of OOI is important in applications where certain parts of the image are more important than others. In such cases, these objects need to be encoded at higher quality than the background. JPEG2000 provides a number of OOI coding mechanisms. Many researchers have actively studied the preferred processing from the OOI coding methods to the new methods complementing them. But, there do not exist OOI coding methods suitable for all applications. Therefore, this study shows a criterion to select according to the application requirements for applying the best OOI coding method in JPEG2000 applications, and also shows the experimental results deciding the best parameters in the selected methods.

Study on the Relationship between Indoor $CO_2$ Concentration and Local Mean Air-age in the Lecture Room with System Air-conditioner and Ventilation Unit for Cooling Loads (냉방시 시스템에어컨과 환기유닛 적응 강의실에서 실내 $CO_2$ 농도와 국소평균공기연령 연구)

  • This study is undertaken to evaluate the relationship between the indoor $CO_2$ concentration and the local mean air-age in the lecture room with the occupants. We conducted the experiments to examine the indoor $CO_2$ concentration and the local mean air-age with respect to the supply airflow of the ventilation system and the discharge angle and air-flow of the system air conditioner. Through the experiments, we found out that indoor $CO_2$ concentrations calculated by the prediction equation of Seidel are about 350 ppm lower than those measured by the experiments. The indoor $CO_2$ concentration is not related with the air-flow and the discharge angle of the system air-conditioner, but with the ventilation airflow. From the numerical calculation, the indoor $CO_2$ concentration is not related with the ventilation effectiveness, but strongly with the local mean air-age. In case of our model, the indoor $CO_2$ concentration is likely to fall within the acceptable air quality when the local mean air-age is averagely predicted under 400 seconds.
