Framework for improving the prediction rate with respect to outdoor thermal comfort using machine learning

  • Most of the construction works are conducted outdoors, so the construction workers are affected by weather conditions such as temperature, humidity, and wind velocity which can be evaluated the thermal comfort as environmental factors. In our previous researches, it was found that construction accidents are usually occurred in the discomfort ranges. The safety management, therefore, should be planned in consideration of the thermal comfort and measured by a specialized simulation tool. However, it is very complex, time-consuming, and difficult to model. To address this issue, this study is aimed to develop a framework of a prediction model for improving the prediction accuracy about outdoor thermal comfort considering environmental factors using machine learning algorithms with hyperparameter tuning. This study is done in four steps: i) Establishment of database, ii) Selection of variables to develop prediction model, iii) Development of prediction model; iv) Conducting of hyperparameter tuning. The tree type algorithm is used to develop the prediction model. The results of this study are as follows. First, considering three variables related to environmental factor, the prediction accuracy was 85.74%. Second, the prediction accuracy was 86.55% when considering four environmental factors. Third, after conducting hyperparameter tuning, the prediction accuracy was increased up to 87.28%. This study has several contributions. First, using this prediction model, the thermal comfort can be calculated easily and quickly. Second, using this prediction model, the safety management can be utilized to manage the construction accident considering weather conditions.

중학생의 환경에 대한 지식, 신념, 태도가 쟁점 기반의 환경문제 해결력에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Knowledge, Beliefs and Attitudes about Environment on Issue-Based Environmental Problem Solving in Middle Schools)

  • This article investigated the effects of students' knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes about environment on environmental issue-based environmental problem solving in secondary school students. This article also investigated whether these factors are related to the environmental problem solving. Therefore, we first developed the test instruments to measure secondary school students' environmental knowledge, environmental beliefs, and environmental attitudes. Then, we developed the environmental issue-based teaching materials for secondary school students. The subjects participated in a environmental issue-based approach that consist of 3 lesson over an three weeks period. The results of this study presents that environmental knowledge and environmental beliefs are effective for the environmental problem solving in middle school environment class. First, secondary school students knew well ecological knowledge about environmental problem, and was entertaining most ecological beliefs. Second, secondary school students were having attitude which is most pro-environmental behaviors. Third, secondary school students are referring necessity of development partially about environment point at issue of country level. But, they were retaining situation of preservation about environment point at issue of area level. It's not easy to generalize these results because of many different variables, but the results suggests that teachers should make an effort to improve student's environmental problem solving ability applying environmental issue-based learning. And it's necessary to develop many kinds of environmental issues and teacher's instruction method to enrich problem solving ability in the process of environmental issue-based learning.

웹 게시판을 활용한 영어 수업에 영향을 미치는 요인분석 연구 (Factors influencing the English classes using a web-based bulletin board system)

  • The development and use of computer mediated communications (CMC) as a tool for teaching and learning English has grown considerably in recent years. The purpose of this study is to investigate factors related to learners' participation, achievement, and satisfaction in EFL classes using web-based bulletin boards. The total number of 77 university students participated in this study. Three domains and eight independent variables investigated in this study were a learner-related domain (attitudes toward CMC, intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, attitudes toward writing), an interaction-related domain (student-student interaction, teacher-student interaction), and an environmental domain (physical support and design of the web site). In order to determine interrelation of variables correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used. The results of this study showed that the factors predicting a learner's participation were instrumental motivation, attitudes toward writing, and teacher-student interaction. The factors explaining a learner's achievement were learner's participation and attitudes toward writing, and the factors predicting a learner's satisfaction were integrative motivation, student-student interaction, teacher-student interaction, physical support and learner's participation.

백화점 옥상정원의 이용현황 및 개선에 관한 조사연구 -대전, 충청지역 백화점 및 대형 점포를 중심으로- (A Study on the Utilization and Improvement in Department Store Roof Garden -Focused on the Case of Daejeon and Chungcheong-)

  • Recently, the roof garden of the large commercial facilities has been changed as a complex cultural space follow the users' diverse needs. It is focused on large commercial facilities on Seoul and Gyeonggi area but large commercial facilities of the province still has not been able to respond to the needs of users. Thus, the present condition of roof gardens was compared space components with physical environmental factors in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Daejeon, Chungcheong. Throughout the comparison, roof gardens in Daejeon and Chungcheong area were focused on finding ways to improve As a result, roof gardens in Seoul and Gyeonggi area were applied to a variety of factors in space components experience, learning, performance, exhibition and etc. It is composed to take place of various acts in the roof garden. On the other hand, roof gardens in Daejeon and Chungcheong were not applied a variety space components by comparing Seoul and Gyeonggi area. Physical environmental factors also were insufficient by comparing Seoul and Gyeonggi area the landscape, awning facilities, amenities for handicapped. As described above, space components and physical environmental factors in Daejeon and Chungcheong area roof gardens were insufficient. To perform the role of the roof garden changing as a complex cultural space and to confront to the users' needs space component such as learning, performance, exhibition should be considered during planning. And physical environmental factors supportable space components should be considered together.

국제신벤처기업의 기업가정신, 학습역량, 수출성과의 관계에서 외부환경 요인의 조절 효과 (The Impacts of Entrepreneurships on Learning Competence and Export Performance of INVs: the Moderating Effect of Environmental Factors)

  • 본 연구는 창업 후 빠르게 외국시장에 진출하는 국제신벤처기업(International New Venture)의 기업가정신, 학습역량, 외부환경 요인 그리고 수출성과의 관계를 살펴보려는 목적으로 진행되었다. 또한, 외부환경 요인의 조절 효과를 분석하려는 목적으로 통합적 모형을 구축하였다. 기업가정신은 위험감수성과 혁신성으로 설정하였다. 외부환경 요인은 국내시장 적대성과 산업의 기술변화속도로 살펴보았다. 선행연구의 논의로부터 9개의 가설을 설정하였으며, 115개 국제신벤처기업 표본을 PLS(Partial Least Square) 구조방정식 모형으로 분석하였다. 분석 도구는 SmartPLS2.0을 사용하였다. 분석 결과 기업가정신의 두 요소는 모두 학습역량에 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤다. 기업가정신은 또한 수출성과에도 유의한 영향을 주었다. 그리고 학습역량과 수출성과의 관계도 유의하게 나타났다. 외부환경 요인의 조절 효과 분석에서는 국내시장 적대성이 기업가정신의 혁신성과 학습역량 사이에 유의한 조절 효과를 나타냈다. 그러나 국내시장 적대성과 위험감수성 그리고 산업의 기술변화 속도 요인에는 조절 효과가 없었다. 본 연구의 결과는 국내시장의 적대성이 높을 때 외국시장 진출과 성과에 긍정적 역할을 하는 학습역량이 기업가정신 혁신성의 영향을 받는다는 점을 보여준다. 이 점은 학습역량 강화에 혁신성이 중요하다는 실무적 시사점을 보여준다. 또한, 외부환경 요인을 국제신벤처기업에 적용해 조절 효과를 분석한 점에서 앞으로 연구에 이론적 시사점을 가진다.

의료기관 학습조직 운영효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effectiveness of Learning Organization Managed by Medical Center)

  • This study was designed to suggest a learning organization in a medical center by examining the factors to influence effectiveness of the learning organization. We collected the data of 586 persons who participated once or more times in the learning organization managed from 2000 to 2002 by Y Medical Center located in Seoul, and included the data of 285 persons in the final analysis. The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, as the results of examining the regression coefficients to predict the effectiveness of and satisfaction with the learning organization through the learning level, learning method and learning organization constructing level as the general variables, the important influential factors were shown as follows: 1)knowledge creation, knowledge storing, private learning, organizational learning, and learning organization construction of occupational and human levels as the factors to predict the working competency; 2) learning organization construction of the human level as the factors to assume the duty satisfaction; 3) gender, working years, private learning, team learning and organizational construction level for the prediction of the organizational commitment; and 4) medical technical service, knowledge creation, organization learning, and constructing level of the environmental and human levels for the assumption of the satisfaction with experience in the learning organization. Based on the study results of the effects in managing the learning organization, we can conclude the followings. First, the members who are in various working positions and occupations need to continuously participate in the learning organization. Second, to raise the organizational outcome from the management of the learning organization, it is necessary to establish systematic concepts in the constituents of the organizational effectiveness such as working competency improvement, duty satisfaction and organizational commitment, and the experience satisfaction of the learning organization. Finally, the future of the organization depends on the learning competencies of the organization members. To continuously exist and develop the organization, the private learning of the organizational members should be constantly spread and shared over the organizational level, and the usual innovations such as repetitive and habitual organizational learning should be generally tried out throughout the whole field of the management.

생태학습장 이용객의 지각된 성과에 의한 만족도 연구 (A Study on User Satisfaction by Perceived Performance of Ecological Learning Center)

  • An ecological learning center is defined as a place which can establish the correct relationship between human and environment. Human can learn ecosystem and importance of environment throughout observation of nature and participation in program of ecological learning center. The most important aspects of ecological learning center planning are to reflect on user's demand and preservation of ecosystem. The prime goals of this study is to analyze user's characteristics in the Young Wheol Mulmurigol Ecological Learning Center. The second goal of this study is to find out the satisfaction model based on user's perceived performance of each program and facility in the center. For this study, questionnaire survey with 204 individuals was completed. The data from the questionnaire were analyzed statistical method by SPSS. There are several significant results from the study as following First, this ecological learning center as a newly operating facility is used not for educational purpose but for resting and relaxation purpose. It is due to that the most of users in this center are package tourists with historic scenes. Second, user's perceived performance evaluated by 23 attributions of programs and facilities, and these attributions could be classified by 5 factors such as environment friendly design, educational function, preservation of environment, provision of various bio-top and provision of resting area. Third, the user satisfaction model indicates that user satisfaction is depended on various factors such as preservation of environment, provision of various bio-top, provision of resting area. Among these factor affecting the satisfaction, provision of various bio-top is the most influence on user satisfaction.

학습지향성과 환경격변성의 상호작용에 관한 탐색적 연구 - 철도공기업을 중심으로 - (An Exploratory Study on the Interaction between Learning Orientation and Environmental Turbulence - The Case of Railway Public Organizations -)

  • 본 논문은 철도공기업의 학습지향성이 기업성과에 어떤 영향을 끼치는지, 그리고 환경격변성이 학습지 향성과 기업성과간의 관계를 조절하는지를 탐색적 수준에서 확인해보려는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 4개 철도 조직으로부터 수거된 616부의 설문을 대상으로 단순 및 계층적 회귀분석을 수행하였다. 연구결과 학습지향 성이 기업성과에 미치는 뚜렷한 영향이 확인됨으로써 학습지향성이라는 조직문화요인이 개별적으로 기업의 성과에 영향을 주는 주요한 변수임을 확인할 수 있었다. 한편, 환경격변성은 학습지향성과 기업성과간의 관계를 부분적으로만 조절하고 있음이 발견되었는데, 이는 철도조직이 지닌 제반 공기업적 특성이 환경요인과 조직 학습간의 내재적 관계를 일정 부분 제약하고 있기 때문이다.

Multidimensional Scaling Analysis of the Proximity of Photosynthesis Concepts In Korean Students

  • Multidimensional scaling can be used to identify relationships among concepts, revealing the structure of the cognitive framework by measuring distances within perceptual maps. The current study sought to examine the relationships among concepts related to photosynthesis in 2,844 $3^{rd}-11^{th}$ grade science students. The questionnaire included items on 'location,' 'products,' 'reactants,' and 'environmental factors', presenting images related to each theme. Students provided responses corresponding to particular topics, and reported the extent to which the concept was related to the topic on a scale from 1 to 30. The survey results were as follows: first, students were not able to clearly distinguish between or understand the four main topics. Second, students organized their cognitive structures by closely associating related concepts after learning. Third, the presented concepts revealed a mixture of scientific and non-scientific concepts, suggesting that students needed to clearly distinguish the preconceptions through which they organized concepts, so that they are suitable for cognitive structures based on learning. Furthermore, non-scientific concepts within perceptions were consistently maintained throughout learning, affecting the proximity of scientific concepts.

Prediction of carbon dioxide emissions based on principal component analysis with regularized extreme learning machine: The case of China

  • Nowadays, with the burgeoning development of economy, $CO_2$ emissions increase rapidly in China. It has become a common concern to seek effective methods to forecast $CO_2$ emissions and put forward the targeted reduction measures. This paper proposes a novel hybrid model combined principal component analysis (PCA) with regularized extreme learning machine (RELM) to make $CO_2$ emissions prediction based on the data from 1978 to 2014 in China. First eleven variables are selected on the basis of Pearson coefficient test. Partial autocorrelation function (PACF) is utilized to determine the lag phases of historical $CO_2$ emissions so as to improve the rationality of input selection. Then PCA is employed to reduce the dimensionality of the influential factors. Finally RELM is applied to forecast $CO_2$ emissions. According to the modeling results, the proposed model outperforms a single RELM model, extreme learning machine (ELM), back propagation neural network (BPNN), GM(1,1) and Logistic model in terms of errors. Moreover, it can be clearly seen that ELM-based approaches save more computing time than BPNN. Therefore the developed model is a promising technique in terms of forecasting accuracy and computing efficiency for $CO_2$ emission prediction.
