Social Dimensions of Peer Interaction: Primary School Children Working with English Learning Software

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate social aspects of young EFL learners' interaction at the computer. Data were taken from the interactions of three pairs of fourth-grade primary school children who worked together on English learning software. Their interactions at the computer were videotaped and then all the talk produced by the students and the utterances emitted from the computer were transcribed. As for the analytical tools, the notion of ‘contextualization cues’ (Gumperz, 1982) and the concept of ‘positioning’ (Davies & Harre,1990) were employed. The analysis reveals that the roles of the students were not tied to a certain position, but rather dynamically changed during the course of interactive work according to the situation at hand. The dynamic changes in their positions were realized through various means; their capability in solving problems, their taking responsibility or assigning it to each other, or cooperation. There were also instances of peer teaching and motivated learning. In addition, the students showed autonomy in their learning activity. These findings suggest that both students in a dyad had their own place in performing task activities, contributing to solving problems and getting benefits from peer interaction. Furthermore, students' working together on English learning software may provide an environment which can promote cooperative attitude and responsibility for learning and enhance motivation and autonomy in their learning process.

서비스 지향 구조 기반 LMS (LMS based on Service-Oriented Architecture)

  • In legacy e-learning web service, as deployed contents are changed, web services should be changed together. In addition, it can not coordinate and manage the various e-learning services recently emerged. In this paper, an e-learning platform based on Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is proposed to solve these problems. We design and implement an e-learning system based on Service abstraction layer concepts. The implemented system can provide the new e-learning services within short development periods.

LT 협동학습이 학습부진아의 학업성취 및 학습태도에 미치는 효과 (Effects of LT cooperative method on Underachiever's Academic Achievement and Learning Attitudes)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 LT 협동학습이 학습부진아의 학업성취 및 학습태도에 미치는 효과를 검증하는데 있다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여, 중학교 2학년 2개 학급의 학습부진아들을 대상으로, 8주에 걸쳐서 LT 협동학습과 강의식 수업을 각각 적용한 후, 그 효과를 검증하기 위하여 t검증과 다변량분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, LT 협동학습은 강의식 수업에 비하여 학습부진아의 학업성취와 학습태도의 증진에 있어 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다. 특히, 학습태도의 하위 변인 중에서 자신감, 성공기대, 주의집중, 열의에서 유의한 차이가 발견되었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 볼 때, LT 협동학습은 강의식 수업에 비해 학습부진아의 학업성취 및 학습태도를 신장시키는데 있어 효과적이며, 특히 학습부진아의 자신감, 성공기대, 주의집중, 열의를 높여주는 교수방법임을 발견할 수 있었다. 따라서 학습부진아들의 학업성취 및 학습태도를 신장시키기 위한 교육프로그램을 계획할 때, LT 협동학습을 적극적으로 적용하려는 다양한 시도가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

The Effects of Group Composition of Self-Regulation on Project-based Group Performance

  • Collaborative learning encourages the use of high-level cognitive strategies, critical thinking, and interpersonal relationships. Despite these advantages, most instructors reveal the difficulties of using project-based collaborative learning; a common problem is the failure of the group to work effectively together. Thus, this study attempted to provide practical advice on group composition with self-regulation. In a college course, 31 groups with 129 students were asked to discuss and prepare the final presentation material and present it together as a collaborative work. All students' self-regulation skills were measured at the beginning of the semester, and the collective self-regulation was computed as an average of the individual scores of each group. The results of regression analysis indicate that the group's collective self-regulation shows a highly significant positive effect on group performance and satisfaction, as self-regulation predicts individual academic performance. The results also show that there is a significant positive relationship between students' self-regulation and participation in group work.

온라인 사전학습을 적용한 공학 실험 수업에서 자기조절학습 능력 개선 사례 연구 (A Case Study on Engineering Experiment Lesson Using on-line pre-Learning for Improvement of Self-regulated Learning Ability)

  • In the on-line pre-learning which is applied in this study, on line pre-learning, in-class, post-learning are circulated together in the same experiments. The on-line pre-learning has been tried to 136 students in A junior college in Seoul for 3 years. The effects of their self-regulated learning are as follows. First, the self-regulated learning ability has increased by 0.42 point. The point after the self-regulated learning and before it is 3.24 and 3.66 respectively. Second, cognitive regulation, motivational regulation and behavioral regulation have also increased. Out of them, cognitive control has increased the most. Metacognitive strategy is higher than cognitive strategy. In conclusion, the result shows that the on-line pre-learning is helpful to develop the self-regulated learning ability and it is also suitable to teaching-learning method for junior college.

효과적인 임상실습을 위한 교육병원의 역할 (The Role of the Teaching Hospital in the Effective Clerkship)

  • A teaching hospital is a place where both patient care and learning occur together. To identify the role of the teaching hospital in an effective clerkship, we first determined the features of workplace learning and the factors that affect learning in the workplace, and then we proposed a role for the teaching hospital in the clinical clerkship. Features of learning in a clerkship include learning in context, and learning from patients, supervising doctors, others in the team, and colleagues. During the clerkship, medical students learn in three-way learner-patient-teacher relationships, and students' participation in the tasks of patient care is crucial for learning. Factors that influence learning in the workplace are associated with tasks, context, and learner. Tying the three factors together, we proposed a role for the teaching hospital in the three categories: involvement in the tasks of patient care, engagement in the medical team, and engagement in the learning environment and system. Supervising doctors and team members in a teaching hospital support students' deep participation in patient care, while improving the learning environment through organizational guidelines and systems. Gathering both qualitative and quantitative data for the evaluation of a teaching hospital is important.

  • This thesis proposes a new scheme for the recognition of presegmented Hangul characters. The proposed approach is rather insensitive to noise and variation by applying 2 dimensional convolution to learning patterns. In this thesis, the hangul recognition neural network is implemented in the basis of this scheme and recognition rate is analyzed in boo cases of learning which are learning by binary patterns and learning by binary patterns and convoluted patterns together.

의학전문대학원생의 학습동아리 참여 경험에 대한 성찰 에세이 분석 (Analysis of Reflective Essays on the Learning Community Experiences of Medical Students)

  • This study analyzed participation experiences in a voluntarily learning community using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Sixty freshmen and sophomore medical school students in 10 learning communities participated in the study. At the time of the survey, learning communities had been operating for 10 weeks and had weekly in-person meetings. Satisfaction questionnaires and reflective essays were given and analyzed. The results showed that learning community experiences were effective in promoting students' learning motivation, cooperative learning, responsibility, and communication skills. Three essential topics and nine subjects were analyzed in the reflective essays. Three essential topics were conflict with each other due to the difference, forming deep relationships, and sharing and learning together with an in-depth study. The results of this study will contribute to collaborative learning culture and the development of learning communities in medical schools.

동양의 시각에서 본 학습조직의 재해석 (Reinterpretation of the Learning Organization from the Oriental Perspectives)

  • With emphasis on the importance of systems thinking for the establishment of learning organization, Senge in his famous book "The Fifth Discipline", explains in depth four disciplines such as personal mastery, mental models, shared vision, team learning, which are all geared up to the implementation of learning organization. However, two critical pitfalls are found: First, a holistic picture is absent in his presentation of learning organization, which just seems like a puzzle with linking pieces missing between disciplines. Secondly, as is often the case too much details are discussed in expense of insights on each discipline. This paper thus attempts to draw core metaphysical insights underlying Senge's learning organization disciplines by reinterpreting them from oriental perspectives; and to identify mechanisms depicting how they are working together as a whole, which is enabled by exploiting causal loop diagrams as a tool of systems thinking. In addition some thoughts on the implications of systems thinking on each of the learning organization disciplines.

이미지와 PPG 데이터를 사용한 멀티모달 딥 러닝 기반의 운전자 졸음 감지 모델 (Driver Drowsiness Detection Model using Image and PPG data Based on Multimodal Deep Learning)

  • 주행 중에 발생하는 졸음은 큰 사고로 직결될 수 있는 매우 위험한 운전자 상태이다. 졸음을 방지하기 위하여 운전자의 상태를 파악하는 전통적인 졸음 감지 방법들이 존재하지만 운전자들이 가지는 개개인의 특성을 모두 반영한 일반화 된 운전자 상태 인식에는 한계가 있다. 최근에는 운전자의 상태를 인식하기 위한 딥 러닝기반의 상태인식 연구들이 제안되었다. 딥 러닝은 인간이 아닌 기계가 특징을 추출하여 보다 일반화된 인식모델을 도출할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 운전자의 상태를 파악하기 위해 이미지와 PPG를 동시에 학습하여 기존 딥 러닝 방식보다 정확한 상태 인식 모델을 제안한다. 본 논문은 운전자의 이미지와 PPG 데이터가 졸음 감지에 어떤 영향을 미치는지, 함께 사용되었을 때 학습 모델의 성능을 향상시키는지 실험을 통해 확인하였다. 이미지만을 사용했을 때 보다 이미지와 PPG를 함께 사용하였을 때 3%내외의 정확도 향상을 확인했다. 또한, 운전자의 상태를 세 가지로 분류하는 멀티모달 딥 러닝 기반의 모델을 96%의 분류 정확도를 보였다.
