  • A electrical fault is defined as any abnormal condition caused by a reduction in the insulation strength. To define the potential risk of the electric installation, measurement of leakage current has been getting considered, but because the measured leakage current value also contained leakage current by capacitance, the measured value could not be adapted to absolute reference to the installation. Therefore, in this paper, the correlation between the condition of electric installation and leakage current were analyzed. The result focuses on to detect them in a cost efficient way.

  • In this study, the numerical study has carried out to analyze the leakage in a steam turbine labyrinth seal. We modified tooth shape of the labyrinth seal and finds out difference of leakage in this study. Original model is straight labyrinth seal and its modified model is slant labyrinth seal. The numerical analyses are implemented on two models. The numerical results show that each leakage of tooth shape are found 0.4781 kg/s and 0.4485 kg/s, respectively. Slant labyrinth seal seals in a steam better than straight labyrinth seal. Since, actual clearance of the stream function in the slant model is smaller than the straight model.

  • High fluidity concrete has excellent workability, and if the cross-section of the building is complicated, it is possible to place good quality concrete and increase the construction speed, so its utility value is very high. However, it is premised on the accuracy of concrete formwork assembly. Concrete leakage through formwork gaps is an important consideration when applying high flow concrete. In order to quickly solve the leak of high fluidity concrete caused by formwork gap occurring at the site by accelerator injection, we proceeded with research to confirm the possibility of reducing the amount of formwork leakage of high fluidity mortar. It was confirmed that the injection of the accelerator could reduce the amount of mortar leakage.

  • A PWM inverter for an induction motor often has a problem with a high frequency leakage current that flows through stray capacitors between stator windings and a motor frame to ground. This paper proposes a new type of Active Common Mode Voltage Canceler circuit for the reduction of common mode voltage and high frequency leakage current generated by the PWM VSI-fed induction motor drives. The compensating voltage applied by the common made voltage canceler has the same amplitude as, hut the opposite polarity to, the common mode voltage by PWM Inverter. Therefore, common mode voltage and high frequency leakage current can be canceled. The proposed circuit consists of four-level half-bridge inverter and common-mode transformer. Simulated and experimental results show that common mode voltage canceler makes significant contributions to reducing a high frequency leakage current.

  • Due to increased integration density and reduced threshold voltages, leakage current reduction becomes important in the semiconductor IC design for low power consumption. In a combinational logic circuit, the leakage current in the standby state depends on the values of the input. In this research, we developed a new input vector control method to minimize the leakage power. A new efficient algorithm is developed to find the minimal leakage vector. It can reduce the leakage current by 15.7% from the average leakage current and by 6.7% from the results of simulated evolution method during standby or idle states for a set of benchmark circuits. The minimal leakage input vector, with idle input signal, can also reduce the leakage current by 6.8% from the average leakage current and by 3.2% from the results of simulated evolution method for sequential circuits.

  • Since water leakage and cracks are not the source of serious problems such as long-term lowering of performance and durability of a stricture, including damages to operating facilities of a structure, damages to internal finishing materials, exhibition, and goods, and pollution of residential environment, they might have led to development of positive coping skills; however, an instant loss of lives or property due to earthquake, explosion, typhoon, or a fire was indeed neglected. In these days, repair materials for leakage cannot help but being taken in temporary way without any noticeable countermeasure. This kind of repair is socially criticized many times that is defective construction even if this costs a lot. It was not arrange the standard for construction methods of sealer of injection type for leakage maintenance, even it has been used various type of construction methods for leakage part. In conclusion, we suggest that the construction methods of sealer of injection type for leakage maintenance for leakage to establish the leakage repairing technology as increase of structure demand. Therefore, it would be possible to provide a stage-by-stage solution by developing systematic research activities among the industry, schools, and research institutes to spread maintenance management techniques globally through technical solution to water leakage and cracks, acquisition of structural safety with prolonged durability for life cycle, reduction of water leakage repair expense s, and so on.

  • Hydrogen is being touted as one of the energy sources to combat the climate change crisis. However, hydrogen can leak into enclosed spaces, rise to the ceiling, accumulate, and cause fires and explosions if it encounters an ignition source. In particular, ships that transport hydrogen or use it as a fuel comprise multiple enclosed spaces. Therefore, the dif usion characteristics within these spaces must be understood to ensure the safe use of hydrogen. The purpose of this study is to experimentally determine the diffusion characteristics of helium, which has similar properties to hydrogen, in a closed space on board a ship, and to determine the change in the oxygen concentration along the leakage direction as the air change per hour(ACH) increases to 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 through CFD simulation. The study, results revealed that the oxygen concentration reduction rate was 2% for leakage in the -z direction and 1% for leakage in the +x and +z directions, and the ventilation time was 15 min 30 s for leakage in the -z direction, 7 min for leakage in the +x direction, and 9 min for leakage in the +z direction, showing that differences existed in the oxygen concentration and ventilation time depending on the leakage direction. In addition, no significant difference was observed in the rate of oxygen concentration reduction and ventilation time in all leakage directions from the ACH of 35 and above in the experimental space. Therefore, because the oxygen concentration and ventilation time were not improved by increasing the ACH, 35 was noted as the optimal ACH in this experimental environment.

  • A mechanical face seal is a tribo-element intended to control leakage of working fluid at the interface of a rotating shaft and its housing. Leakage of working fluid decreases drastically as the clearance between mating seal faces gets smaller. But the very small clearance may result in an increased reduction of seal life because of high wear and heat generation. Therefore, in the design of mechanical face seals a compromise between low leakage and acceptable seal life is important, ant it present a difficult and practical design problem. A fluid film or sealing dam geometry of the seal clearance affects seal lubrication performance very much, and thereby is optimization is one of the main design consideration. in this study the Reynolds equation for the sealing dam of mechanical face seals is numerically analyzed, using the Galerkin finite element method, which is readily applied to various seal geometries, to give lubrication performances, such as opening force, restoring moment, leakage, and axial and angular stiffness coefficients. Then, to improve the seal performance an optimization is performed, considering various design variables simultaneously. For the tested case the optimization ha successfully resulted in the optimal design values of outer and inner seal radii, coning, seal clearance, and balance radius while satisfying all the operation subjected constraints and design variable side-constraints, and improvements of axial and angular stiffness coefficients by 16.8% and 2.4% respectively and reduction of leakage by 38.4% have been achieved.

  • In this paper the leakage prediction md rotordynamic analysis of an annular seal with a smooth rotor and spiral-grooved stator is performed. For the development of a theoretical model, the three-control-volume analysis of the circumferentially-grooved seal is expanded by considering pressure reduction due to the pumping effect of spiral groove and pressurized flow through the spiral groove. Validation on the present analysis is achieved by comparisons with available experimental data. For the leakage prediction the present analysis generally shows a reasonable agreement with experimental results. Rotordynamic coefficients for rotor speed with spiral angles show same trend, but the magnitudes of rotordynamic coefficients yield differences between analysis and experimental results.
