  • The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of electrical noise on malfunction of the earth leakage circuit breaker. A three-way experiment for studying its malfunction was conducted, in which electrical products such as radio, alternating current are welder and cellular phone, distance from the earth leakage breaker to electrical products, and whether or not the earth leakage breaker is contained is contained in the steel box were employed as experimental variables. Eleven earth leakage breakers frequently used in real situations were tested in each experimental treatment. The electrical products were used for generating electrical noise that is known to be able to cause malfunction of the earth leakage breaker. The results showed that except a case for one of the 11 earth leakage breakers when the radio made by M company was located 30 cm ahead of the breaker, malfunction did not occur in any other experimental treatment. Consequently, it is suggested that the breaker should be normally used for preventing electricity-related accidents without fear of its malfunction in industrial sites.

  • CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) is considered as the most promising interim solution to deal with the greenhouse gas such as $CO_2$ responsible for global warming. Even though carefully chosen geologic formations are known to contain stored gas for a long time period, there are potential risks of leakage. Up to now, applicable risk assessment procedures for the leakage of $CO_2$ are not available. This study presents a basis for risk analysis applicable to a complex geologic storage system. It starts with the classification of potential leakage pathways. Receptors and the leakage effect on them are identified and quantified. Then, a fault tree is constructed, which yields the minimum cut set (i.e., the most vulnerable leakage pathway) and quantifies the probability of the leakage risk through the cut set. The methodology will provide a tool for risk assessment in a CCS project. The outcomes of the assessment will not only ensure the safety of the CCS system but also offer a reliable and efficient monitoring plan.

  • This paper describes an effect of a single- and a quadruple-lightning impulse currents on electrical characteristics of ZnO blocks, and an expert system to diagnose arrestor deterioration. To deduce the parameters needed for diagnosing arrester deterioration, an accelerate deterioration teat is carried out. In the experiment, leakage current components are measured. Also, wave height distribution of the leakage current according to the progress of arrester deterioration is analyzed. From the experimental results, the wave height distribution of the leakage current showed conspicuous difference even in an immaterial leakage current increase. Therefore, the use of wave height distribution of the leakage current in deterioration diagnostic technique makes more accurate diagnosis than the conventional method by using only a leakage currant value. Finally, the expert system based on the experimental results is developed and the system can diagnose arrestor deterioration by measuring the leakage current and its wade height distribution.

  • Most of vaccine type security solutions detect intrusion of computer virus or malicious code. However, they almost don't have functionalities of the information leakage detection. In particular, information leakage through keylogging attact cannot be detected. In this paper, we design and implement a solution to detect the leakage of information through keylogging attact. Proposed solution detects the user-specified information in real time. To detect the leakage of user-specified information, the solution extracts the payload field from each outbound packet and compares with user-specified information. We design the solution to reduce the effect on the packet transmission delay time due to packet monitoring operation. And we design a simple user interface. By proposed solution, user can response to intrusion or information leakage immediately because he or she can perceives a leakage of information in real time.

  • Recently, spillways are need to control stable water level for supporting main dams because of floods by unusual change of weather such as Typhoon Rusa. This study has been focused on the amount of leakage through the rock mass distributed fractures and joints under the opened emergency spillway. It is very important to evaluate the amount of leakage as these affect stability of spillway by interaction between effective stress and pore pressure. The commercial program MAFIC has been used for analyzing groundwater flow in fractured rock mass. The results showed that the values of range, average and deviation of leakage were 2.85∼3.79×10-1, 3.32×10-1 and 1.70×10-2 m3/day/m2 respectively. Secondary, we have estimated the effect of grouting after the transmissivity(Tf) of joint 1 as main pathway of leakage known from above results was changed from 1.78×10-7 to 1.59×10-9 m2/s. The results showed that the values of range, average and deviation of leakage were 7.80×10-4∼1.53×10-3, 1.18×10-3 and 1.32×10-4 m3/day/m2 respectively. As the result, the amount of leakage after grouting has been decreased by a ratio of 1 to 277.

  • A reinforced concrete water tank is a typical functional liquid storage structure and cracks are the greatest threat to the liquid storage structure. Tanks are readily cracked due to seismic activity, thereby leading to the leakage of the stored liquid and a loss of function. In order to study the effect of cracks on liquid storage tanks, self-healing and leakage tests for bending cracks and through cracks in the walls of a reinforced concrete water tank were conducted. Material performance tests were also performed. The self-healing performance of bending cracks in a lentic environment and through cracks in a lotic environment were tested, thereby the self-healing width of bending micro-cracks in the lentic environment in the short term were determined. The through cracks had the capacity for self-healing in the lotic environment was found. The leakage characteristics of the bending cracks and through cracks were tested with the actual water head on the crack. The effects on liquid leakage of the width of bending cracks, the depth of the compression zone, and the acting head were determined. The relationships between the leakage rate and time with the height of the water head were analyzed. Based on the tests, the relationships between the crack characteristics and self-healing as well as the leakage were obtained. Thereby the references for water tank structure design and grading earthquake damage were provided.

  • We present a technique for fabricating low leakage organic field-effect transistors by a functional polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) layer. The technique relies on the photo-chemical process of conversion of the PDMS to a silicon oxide which provides the selective growth of pentacene thin films. The reduced gate leakage current showed ${\sim}10^{-10}$ A in a linear ($V_d=-5\;V$) and saturation ($V_d=-30\;V$) region at $V_g-V_t>0$.

  • Sealing an oil-air mixture plays important roles to have an enhanced lubrication for high speed spindle. Current work is emphasized on the investigation of the air jet effect on the protective collar type labyrinth seal. To improve the sealing capability of conventional labyrinth seal, air jet is injected against through the leakage flow. It has a combined geometry of a protective collar type and an air jet type. In this study, both of a numerical analysis by CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) and experimental measurements are carried out to verify sealing improvement. Both of the turbulence and the compressible flow model are introduced in CFD analysis. The sealing effect of the leakage clearance and the air jet magnitude are studied for various parameter in the experiment. The results of pressure drop in the experiment match reasonably to those of the simulation by introducing a flow coefficient. Effects of sealing improvement are explained as decreasing of effective leakage clearance by air jetting. Thus, sealing effect is improved by amount of air jetting even though clearance becomes larger.

  • This study examined the effect of electron-beam (E-beam) irradiation on the electrical properties of n-GaN, AlGaN and AlGN/GaN structures on sapphire substrates. E-beam irradiation resulted in a significant decrease in the gate leakage current of the n-GaN, AlGaN and HEMT structure from $4.0{\times}10^{-4}A$, $6.5{\times}10^{-5}A$, $2.7{\times}10^{-8}A$ to $7.7{\times}10^{-5}A$, $7.7{\times}10^{-6}A$, $4.7{\times}10^{-9}A$, respectively, at a drain voltage of -10V. Furthermore, we also investigated the effect of E-beam irradiation on the AlGaN surface in AlGaN/GaN heterostructure high electron mobility transistors(HEMTs). The results showed that the maximum drain current density of the AlGaN/GaN HEMTs with E-beam irradiation was greatly improved, when compared to that of the AlGaN/GaN HEMTs without E-beam irradiation. These results strongly suggest that E-beam irradiation is a promising method to reduce leakage current of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs on sapphire through the neutralization the trap.

  • In present 3D CFD study, the method for determining leakage and rotordynamic coefficients of a plain-gas seal is suggested by using the relative coordinate system for steady-state simulation. In order to find the effect of pre-swirl speed at seal inlet, pre-swirl velocity is included as a parameter. Present analysis is verified by comparison with results acquired from Bulk-flow analysis code and published experimental results. The results of 3D CFD rotordynamic coefficients of direct stiffness(K) and cross-coupled stiffness(k) show improvements in prediction. As pre-swirl speed at seal inlet increases, k also increases to destabilize system. However, pre-swirl speed at seal inlet does not show sensitivity to the leakage and rotordynamic coefficients of K and damping(C).
