  • In this study, we have derived the abundances of several elements ? Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni - for the six F G K type stars in IC 2391 and the seven stars in NGC 6475. The spectra of those stars are taken from UVES POP archive data, of which resolution is 80,000. To derive the abundances of those elements, TAME (Tools for Automatic Measurement of Equivalent-widths), Kurucz stellar atmospheric model, and MOOG code are used. The stellar parameters (effective temperature, log g, metallicity, microturbulent velocity) are determined from the iron lines. The results provide the abundance differences of chemical elements between two open clusters, IC 2391 (a member of Gould Belt) and NGC 6475 (non-member of it), which would lead to better understanding about Gould Belt.

  • Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) have the capability to develop functional relationships between input-output patterns obtained from any source. Thus ANN can be conveniently used to develop a generalised relationship from limited and sometimes inconsistent data, and can therefore also be applied to tackle the data obtained from wind tunnel tests on building models with large number of variables. In this paper ANN model has been developed for predicting wind induced pressures in various zones of a Gable Building from limited test data. The procedure is also extended to a case wherein interference effects on a gable roof building by a similar building are studied. It is found that the Artificial Neural Network modelling is seen to predict successfully, the pressure coefficients for any roof slope that has not been covered by the experimental study. It is seen that ANN modelling can lead to a reduction of the wind tunnel testing effort for interference studies to almost half.

  • The correct computer simulation of the powder compaction stage requires the determination of the elastoplastic parameters which characterize its mechanical behavour. Instrumented dies are frequently used to monitor the longitudinal and radial stress occurring during powder compaction. When strain gages are employed a previous calibration is needed. Many sources of error exist that can lead to the incorrect calibration of the instrumented die. By means of a FEM simulation some of these problems are analysed. The effect of die wall thickness, compression length, and strain location are studied.

  • The building HVAC systems have very different qualities of performance and durability with the superintendent's ability for management and maintenance. The poor management of these systems finally lead to the shortening of the life expectancy and result in the increase of operating costs and energy consumptions due to low efficiencies. So it is essential to try to develop ways to adequately maintain and to use the building facilities efficiently in order to preserve earth environment and the limited resource. In this study, the LCC based numerical calculation package will be developed for the efficient maintenance plan and the determination of the reasonable time of repair or replacement of equipments.

  • The laser ablation/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry is applied to the isotopic analysis of solid samples using a home-made instrument. The technique is convenient for solid sample analysis due to the onestep process of vaporization and ionization of the samples. The analyzed samples were lead, cadmium, molybdenum, and ytterbium. To optimize the analytical conditions of the technique, several parameters, such as laser energy, laser wavelength, size of the laser beam on the samples surface, and high voltages applied on the ion source electrodes were varied. Low energy of laser light was necessary to obtain the optimal mass resolution of spectra. The 532 nm light generated mass spectra with the higher signal-to-noise ratio compared with the 355 nm light. The best mass resolution obtained in the present study is ~1,500 for the ytterbium.

  • Due to the various requests from consumers and rapidly changing market, the product design is continuously changing and the new products are manufactured in various forms. To satisfy this condition, companies must make the product design robust with better quality. However, considering many parameters and increasing the level of each parameter in product design can lead us to a difficult situation. In order to solve this problem, this paper attempts to develop an algorithm that takes into account more parameters and increased level of parameters using Genetic Algorithms. As a result of this study, we can use this algorithm for designing the parameters of new product since it can search the level of parameters in more detail and wider range.

  • Location-based services or LBS refer to value-added service by processing information utilizing mobile user location. With the rapidly increasing wireless Internet subscribers and world LBS market, the various location based applications are introduced such as buddy finder, proximity and security services. As the killer application of the wireless Internet, the LBS have reconsidered technology about location determination technology, LBS middleware server for various application, and diverse contents processing technology. However, there are fears that this new wealth of personal location information will lead to new security risks, to the invasion of the privacy of people and organizations. This paper describes a novel security approach on open LBS service to validate certificate based on current LBS platform environment using XKMS (XML Key Management Specification) and SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language), XACML (extensible Access Control Markup Language) in XML security mechanism.

  • Engineering design can be viewed as a decision making process, which involves the nonlinear tradeoffs task among the multiple conflicting attributes and considers the robustness of design. In order to obtain best engineering design, methodology for accurate assessment of his/her preference about the multiple attributes is required. Conventionally, intuitive procedures based on lottery questions are used to elicit the designer's preference structure: however, they can lead to inconsistent and inexact preference results due to the rank reversal problems derived from the designer's big cognitive burden. In this paper, alternatively, a design methodology based on multiattribute utility function through the pairwise comparison among alternatives is presented. The proposed procedure is applied to an actual injection mold design with the aid of the CAE simulation and the result is discussed.

  • Cabbage contained high peroxidase activity among tested plant sources. The cabbage peroxi-dase can replace horseradish peroxidase to assay glucose with glucose oxidase. The amount of glucose can be determined quantitatively by glucose oxidase-cabbage peroxidase. The opti-mum pH and temperature for enzymatic glucose determination by glucose oxidase-cabbage peroxidase were 6.0 and 35-45$^{\circ}C$ respectively. The glucose assay was inhibited by addition of various metal salts such as mercuric chloride lead acetate silver nitrate ammonium molyb-date sodium tunstate and cupric sulfate. The relationship between absorbance and amount of glucose was linear up to 8.33 mM glucose in the assay mixture under the assay conditions.

  • The breakdown of machines lead to the lateness of parts and the change of schedules. Its treatment is very important problem in the shop floor control system. In this study, we present an algorithm minimize the lateness, earliness and change of schedule by controlling machining speed of available machines. Production time and production cost required to manufacture a piece of product are usually expressed as a unimodal convex fuction with respect to machining speed, and each has its minimal point at the minimum time speed or the minimum cost speed, and a speed range between these two speeds is called 'efficiency speed range'. Therefore, the algorithm determines the machining speed in the efficiency speed range. An example is demonstrated to explain the algorithm.
