Microwave-Assisted Cationic Ring-Opening Polymerization of Cyclic Imino Ethers

  • Microwave-irradiation has become a common heat source in organic chemistry in the last decade. In recent years, polymer chemists also discovered the advances of microwave heating that include fast and efficient heating as well as the homogeneous heat profile and the easy access to pressurized reaction conditions. In this contribution, we report our investigations on the cationic ring-opening polymerization of 2-oxazolines that lead to a tremendous acceleration from several days to several minutes polymerization time. In addition, the optimized microwave-assisted polymerization procedure was applied for the preparation of libraries of diblock and triblock copolymers that were used for the determination of structure-property relationships in poly(2-oxazoline)s.

부방향 동압력을 이용한 압전형 압력센서의 교정기법 (A Dynamic Calibration Technique for Piezoelectric Sensors Using Negative Going Dynamic Pressure)

  • The determination of response characteristics for pressure sensors is routinely limited to static calibration against a deadweight pressure standard. The strength of this method is that the deadweight device is a primary standard used to generate precise pressure. Its weakness lies in the assumption that the static and dynamic responses of the sensor in question are equivalent. Differences in sensor response to static and dynamic events, however, can lead to serious measurement errors. Dynamic techniques are required to calibrate pressure sensors measuring dynamic events in milliseconds. In this paper, a dynamic calibration using negative going dynamic pressure is proposed to determine dynamic pressure response for piezoelectric sensors. Sensitivity and linearity of sensor by the dynamic calibration were compared with those by the static calibration. The uncertainty of calibration results and the goodness of fit test of linear regression analysis were presented. The results show that the dynamic calibration is applicable to determine dynamic pressure response for piezoelectric sensors.

한약재내 중금속 함량분석 및 물세척 효과 (Determination of Heavy Metal Contents in Oriental Medical Materials and the Effect of Washing)

  • 쌍화탕의 재료로 사용되는 9가지 한약재에 함유된 6가지 인체에 유해한 중금속 함유량은 생강과 당귀의 경우 식약청 기준치인 30ppm의 1.47배와 1.24배 이었고 기타 한약재는 기준치와 거의 동등하거나5% 이내에서 초과하였다. 가장 간단한 수치법인 물세 척 만으로 중금속이 20-38% 제거되었고 따라서 모든 실험 대상 약재 에 대하여 중금속 함량을 식약청 기준치보다 낮출 수 있었다.

Transcriptional regulatory network during development in the olfactory epithelium

  • Regeneration, a process of reconstitution of the entire tissue, occurs throughout life in the olfactory epithelium (OE). Regeneration of OE consists of several stages: proliferation of progenitors, cell fate determination between neuronal and non-neuronal lineages, their differentiation and maturation. How the differentiated cell types that comprise the OE are regenerated, is one of the central questions in olfactory developmental neurobiology. The past decade has witnessed considerable progress regarding the regulation of transcription factors (TFs) involved in the remarkable regenerative potential of OE. Here, we review current state of knowledge of the transcriptional regulatory networks that are powerful modulators of the acquisition and maintenance of developmental stages during regeneration in the OE. Advance in our understanding of regeneration will not only shed light on the basic principles of adult plasticity of cell identity, but may also lead to new approaches for using stem cells and reprogramming after injury or degenerative neurological diseases.

다단계 공급체인에서 재고정책들에 대한 시뮬레이션 연구 (A Simulation Study for Inventory Policies in a Multi-Echelon Supply Chain)

  • Managing multi-echelon inventory systems has gained importance over the last decade mainly because integrated control of supply chains consisting of several processing and distribution stages has become feasible through modern information technology. Determination of optimal inventory policy for multi-echelon supply chain is made difficult by the complex interaction between the different levels. In this paper, we investigate performance of five inventory policies (fixed quantity order policy, fixed interval order policy, compromised order policy, lead time-fixed quantity order policy, and mixed order policy) in a multi-echelon supply chain by using a simulation model constructed with AweSim simulation language. The results of the simulation study show that the mixed order policy is the best among five inventory policies in the most test problems except the case when the stockout cost per unit is much higher than the inventory holding and transportation costs per unit.

  • With the advent of electric power systems moving to a deregulated retail electricity market environment, calculating distribution service tariffs has become a challenging theme for distribution industries and tariff regulators. As distribution business remains as a monopoly, it is necessary to be regulated. And as multiple distribution companies compete with each other, it would be efficient to adopt competition to the determination of distribution service tariffs. This paper proposes a method to calculate distribution service tariffs using yardstick regulation, which can lead to competition among multiple distribution companies. The proposed method takes into account not only recovering revenue requirements but also the advantages of the yardstick regulation based on long-term marginal costs of distribution network expansion algorithms. A computer simulation is carried out to illustrate effectiveness of the proposed method and it is estimated that the algorithm can be applied to compute the distribution service tariffs under retail electricity markets.

특정지역 한우의 미량금속 폭로도에 관한 조사연구 (Determination of Trace Metals in Tissue of Cattle in Selected Areas)

  • Measurements of kidney, liver, lung along with blood trace metal levels were obtained in 20 exposed and 40 control cattle. The level of cadmium, mercury and arsenic were the highest in the kidney while copper, lead and zinc concentrations were the highest in the liver. Statistically significant correlation between the kidney and the liver were found for cadmium, copper, zinc, mercury and arsenic. No significant differences were observed between the area, sex and age in this study. The levels found were generally within the ranges compared with those found in similar studies in and outside.

디지털시장의 시장구조와 제품판매방식

  • Expansion and enhancement of information and communication infrastructure can create a market closer to an ideal type for a perfect competition, utilizing a cyber space in the network (with the expanded usage of Internet and e-commerce) and it could be a market of a monopolistic form. The government can take one of the two approaches responding to this monopolization of the digital market. First, the government maintains laissez-faire policy since the monopoly cannot be maintained over a long period of time due to an increasing in the production, decrease in the price, profit resulting from this and rapid technology evolution. Second, the government can actively interrupt the monopolization of the digital market. Monopolization in a digital market can lead to a market failure. Unstable market structure and too much frequent merger and acquisition contribute to making the digital market very dynamic. Information goods exchanged in the digital market have the features of very low marginal cost required to copy the original product whereas its initial fixed cost is very high. This explains why the information products are not priced based on the existing marginal price determination principles and why companies producing them have various product sales strategies (price/product differentiation strategy, and other sales strategies).

  • The purpose of this paper is to establish an effective inspection system by using OMM (On-Machine Measurement) system based PC-NC. This system can reduce manufacturing lead time because a workpiece is inspected at every machining process and the manufacturing system which includes inspection faculty is able to realize on-line process on CNC machining center. The proposed OMM system is composed of a few algorithms for determination of inspection parameters. It is accomplished by determining the number of measuring points, their location, measuring path using fuzzy logic, Hammersley's method, TSP (Traveling Salesperson Problem) algorithm. The inspection feature applied to this system is based on machining feature. This method is tested by simulation and experiment that are analyzed measuring data and geometry tolerance.

쌍대비교에 기반한 승법적 효용함수의 결정 (Determination of Multiplicative Utility Function Based on the Pair-wise Comparisons)

  • The ever increasing demand for enhanced competitiveness of engineered products requires "designing-in-quality" strategies that can effectively and efficiently incorporate concepts of uncertainty and quality into design. Multi-attribute utility function is commonly used to represent the decision-maker's preference on multiple design attributes under conditions of uncertainty and risk. One of the major issues in implementing this approach concerns the generation of appropriate utility function, especially in a complex engineering design environment. Typically, the decision maker's preference is revealed through lottery questions rather than being structured on the deductive reasoning to reflect the nonlinear tradeoffs among the attributes. The use of such intuitive procedures can lead to inexact preference information that may result in inaccuracy and rank reversal problems. This paper presents an alternative procedure based on the pair-wise comparisons between design alternatives towards a consistent preference presentation in assessing multiplicative utility function. The effectiveness of the overall procedures is tested with the aid of an injection-molding process design for a capacitor can and the results are discussed.
