  • An autostereoscopic multi-view 3D display system has the narrower degrees of freedom in the observational directions, such as the horizontal and perpendicular directions to the display plane, than the glasses-on type of 3D display. In this paper, we propose an innovative method to expand the width of the viewing zone formed in the depth direction while maintaining the number of views in the horizontal direction by using a triple segmented-slanted parallax barrier (TS-SPB) in the glasses-off type of 3D display. The validity of the proposal was verified by an optical simulation based on an environment similar to an actual case. The maximum number of views that can be displayed in the horizontal direction is 2n, and the width of the viewing zone with depth increased up to a factor of 3.36 compared to the existing one-layered parallax barrier system.

  • An efficient numerical procedure for material and geometric nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete shells under monotonically increasing loads through their elastic, inelastic and ultimate load ranges is developed by using the finite element method. The 8-node Serendipity isoparametric element developed by the degeneration approach including the transverse shear deformation is used. A layered approach is used to represent the steel reinforcement and to discretize the concrete behavior through the thickness. The total Lagrangian formulation based upon the simplified Von Karman strain expressions is used to take into account the geometric nonlinearity of the structure. The material nonlinearities are taken into account by comprising the tension, compression, and shear models of cracked concrete and a model for reinforcement in the concrete; and also a so-called smeared crack model is incorporated. The steel reinforcement is assumed to be in a uniaxial stress state and is modelled as a smeared layer of equivalent thickness. This method will be verified a useful tool to account for geometric and material nonlinearities in detailed analysis of reinforced concrete concrete shells of general form through numerical examples of the sequential paper( ).

  • In this paper, a method of discriminating EEG for diagnoses of mental activity is proposed. The proposed method for classification of schizophrenia and normal EEG is based on the wavelet transform and the artificial neural network. The wavelet coefficients of $\alpha$ band, $\beta$ band, $\theta$ band, and $\delta$ band are obtained using the wavelet transform. The magnitude, mean, and variance of wavelet coefficients for each EEG band are applied to the input data of the system's ANN. The architecture of the ANN s a four layered feedforward network with two hidden layer which implements the error back propagation learning algorithm. Through the classification of schizophrenia composed of 19 ANNs corresponding to 19 channels, the classifying system show that it can classify the 100% of the normal EEG group and the 86.67% of the schizophrenia EEG group.

  • [ $LiCoO_{2}$ ] is the most common cathode electrode materials in Lithium-ion batteries. $LiCo_{0.97}Mg_{0.03}O_2$ was synthesized by the solid-state reaction method. We investigated crystal structures, electrical conductivities and electrochemical properties. The crystal structure of $LiCo_{0.97}Mg_{0.03}O_2$ was analyzed by X-ray powder diffraction and Rietveld refinement. The material showed a single phase of a layered structure with the space group R-3m. The lattice parameter(a, c) of $LiCo_{0.97}Mg_{0.03}O_2$ was larger than that of $LiCoO_2$. The electrical conductivity of sintered samples was measured by the Van der Pauw method. The electrical conductivities of $LiCoO_2$ and $LiCo_{0.97}Mg_{0.03}O_2$ were $2.11{\times}10^{-4}\;S/cm$ and $2.41{\times}10^{-1}\;S/cm$ at room temperature, respectively. On the basis of the Hall effect analysis, the increase in electrical conductivities of $LiCo_{0.97}Mg_{0.03}O_2$ is believed due to the increased carrier concentrations, while the carrier mobility was almost invariant. The electrochemical performance was investigated by coin cell test. $LiCo_{0.97}Mg_{0.03}O_2$ showed improved cycling performance as compared with $LiCoO_2$.

  • $Bi_{3.99}Ti_{2.97}V_{0.03}O_{12}$ (BTV) thin films with 3 mol% vanadium doping were Prepared on $Pt/Ti/SiO_2/Si$ substrate by sol-gel method. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that single-phase layered perovskite were obtained and preferred orientation was not observed. Under the annealing temperature at $600^{\circ}C$, the surface morphology of the BTV thin films had fine-rounded particles and then changed plate-like at $650^{\circ}C$ and $700^{\circ}C$. The remanent polarization $(2P_r)$ and coercive field $(2E_c)$ of $700^{\circ}C$ annealed BTV thin film were 25 $\mu$C/cm$^2$ and 116 kV/cm, respectively. In addition, BTV thin film showed little polarization fatigue during $10_9$ switching cycles. These improved ferroelectric properties were attributed to the increased rattling space and reduced oxygen vacancies by substitution $Ti^{4+}$ ion (68 pm) with smaller $V^{5+}$ ion (59 pm). The dielectric constant and loss were measured 130 and 0.03 at 10 kHz, respectively.

  • Transmission towers have come to represent one of the most important infrastructures in today's society, which may suffer severe earthquakes during their service lives. However, in the conventional seismic analyses of transmission towers, the towers are normally assumed to be fixed on the ground without considering the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI) on the pile-supported transmission tower. This assumption may lead to inaccurate seismic performance estimations of transmission towers. In the present study, the seismic response and failure analyses of pile-supported transmission towers considering SSI are comprehensively performed based on the finite element method. Specifically, two detailed finite element (FE) models of the employed pile-supported transmission tower with and without consideration of SSI effects are established in ABAQUS analysis platform, in which SSI is simulated by the classical p-y approach. A simulation method is developed to stochastically synthesize the earthquake ground motions at different soil depths (i.e. depth-varying ground motions, DVGMs). The impacts of SSI on the dynamic characteristic, seismic response and failure modes are investigated and discussed by using the generated FE models and ground motions. Numerical results show that the vibration mode shapes of the pile-supported transmission towers with and without SSI are basically same; however, SSI can significantly affect the dynamic characteristic by altering the vibration frequencies of different modes. Neglecting the SSI and the variability of earthquake motions at different depths may cause an underestimate and overestimate on the seismic responses, respectively. Moreover, the seismic failure mode of pile-supported transmission towers is also significantly impacted by the SSI and DVGMs.

  • Under the conditional independence assumption among local features, the Naive Bayes Nearest Neighbor (NBNN) classifier has been recently proposed and performs classification without any training or quantization phases. While the original NBNN shows high classification accuracy without adopting an explicit training phase, the conditional independence among local features is against the compositionality of objects indicating that different, but related parts of an object appear together. As a result, the assumption of the conditional independence weakens the accuracy of classification techniques based on NBNN. In this work, we look into this issue, and propose a novel Bayesian network for an NBNN based classification to consider the conditional dependence among features. To achieve our goal, we extract a high-level feature and its corresponding, multiple low-level features for each image patch. We then represent them based on a simple, two-level layered Bayesian network, and design its classification function considering our Bayesian network. To achieve low memory requirement and fast query-time performance, we further optimize our representation and classification function, named relation-based Bayesian network, by considering and representing the relationship between a high-level feature and its low-level features into a compact relation vector, whose dimensionality is the same as the number of low-level features, e.g., four elements in our tests. We have demonstrated the benefits of our method over the original NBNN and its recent improvement, and local NBNN in two different benchmarks. Our method shows improved accuracy, up to 27% against the tested methods. This high accuracy is mainly due to consideration of the conditional dependences between high-level and its corresponding low-level features.

  • Through-the-thickness properties of thick-walled cylindrical composites are required to determine structural performances because interlaminar tensile stress is primarily responsible for structural failure of the composites during their curing process. It is necessary for evaluating the tensile properties to find individual test methods to find appropriate methods because there are no recognised international standards(test methods and test specifications) available for generating reliable tensile properties in the direction. This paper has performed an experimental Study to measure that properties of carbon fabric/phenolic composites are produced by domestic company. Several test methods using an aluminum specimen were compared and evaluated. The best method, found out, was adopted to measure transverse through-the-thickness properties of composite materials. The results show that strain trends on four faces of composite specimen are the same.

  • In practice, analysis of laterally loaded piles is carried out using beams on non-linear Winkler springs model (often known as p-y method) due to its simplicity, low computational cost and the ability to model layered soils. In this approach, soil-pile interaction along the depth is characterized by a set of discrete non-linear springs represented by p-y curves where p is the pressure on the soil that causes a relative deformation of y. p-y curves are usually constructed based on semi-empirical correlations. In order to construct API/DNV proposed p-y curve for clay, one needs two values from the monotonic stress-strain test results i.e., undrained strength ($s_u$) and the strain at 50% yield stress (${\varepsilon}_{50}$). This approach may ignore various features for a particular soil which may lead to un-conservative or over-conservative design as not all the data points in the stress-strain relation are used. However, with the increasing ability to simulate soil-structure interaction problems using highly developed computers, the trend has shifted towards a more theoretically sound basis. In this paper, principles of Mobilized Strength Design (MSD) concept is used to construct a continuous p-y curves from experimentally obtained stress-strain relationship of the soil. In the method, the stress-strain graph is scaled by two coefficient $N_C$ (for stress) and $M_C$ (for strain) to obtain the p-y curves. $M_C$ and $N_C$ are derived based on Semi-Analytical Finite Element approach exploiting the axial symmetry where a pile is modelled as a series of embedded discs. An example is considered to show the application of the methodology.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the sewing construction of a double robe, the difference between the single and double robe, and the size and construction method of the double robe through a close analysis of a replica to facilitate a better understanding of the robe making in late Chosun dynasty. The results were as follows: 1. There was no significant difference in the design and sewing method between the girl's robe and an adult's even though the girl's robe was much smaller. 2. The girl's robe differed from its modern counterparts in some respects: unlike modem robes, Chungyun's robe consisted of two-layers in which the four layers were sewn together and it could be seen most clearly in the way the collar was stitched only onto the outer layer. The two layers seemed to be put on successively since they were not sewn together. The inner collars of the two robes were sewn together when the maker put on a coat string to the outer robe, and the two robes were put together with hemming and blind stitch at the top of the outer collars to make the robe formally stable, which clearly distinguished the princess' robe from a single, for example, four-layered robe. The robe was constructed using traditional sewing methods including broad stitch, back stitch, hemming, and blind stitch, and each stitch was only about 1 mm wide. 3. The maker of the robe managed to construct a formally stable and aesthetically satisfactory robe with the least amount of fabric and proper sewing methods.
