A Study on the Improvement of the convergence Properties of the Adaptive Lattice Filters (적응 Lattice 필터의 수검특성 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The convergence properties of Burg algorithm, which is commonly used to calculate the reflection coefficients in the adaptive lattice filters, are studied in this paper. Applying the $\mu$ algorithm to Burg algorithm, a new adaptive lattice $\mu$ algorithm is derived and it shows that the convergence speed of this algorithm is higher than that of Burg algorithm. As a result of theoretical analysis and computer simulation, it is proved that the con-vergence speed of the proposed algorithm is remarkably higher than that of Burg algorithm when the convergence speed of Burg alsorithm is low.

  • A numerical simulation was done to investigate the performance of thin wings in close vicinity to ground. The simulation is based on Vortex Lattice Method(VLM) and freely deforming wake elements are taken into account for a sudden acceleration case. The parameters covered in the simulation are angle of attack, aspect ratio, ground clearance, sweep angle and taper ratio. In addition, the effect of the wing endplate on the ground effect is included. The wing sections used for present computations are uncambered, cambered and S-types. The present computational results are compared with other published computational results and experimental data.

Use of the Mass-Spying Lattice Model for Simulation of Ultrasonic Waves in Austenitic Welds

  • Feasibility is studied for an application of the mass-spring lattice model (MSLM), a numerical model previously developed for unidirectional composites, to the numerical simulation of ultrasonic inspection of austenitic welds modeled as transversely isotropic. Fundamental wave processes, such as propagation, reflection, refraction, and diffraction of ultrasonic waves in such an inspection are simulated using the MSLM. All numerical results show excellent agreement with the analytical results. Further, a simplified model of austenitic weld inspection has been successfully simulated using the MSLM. In conclusion, a great potential of the MSLM in numerically simulating ultrasonic inspections of austenitic welds has been manifested in this work, though significant further efforts will be required to develop a model with field practicality.

Measurements of Lattice Strain in $SiO_2/Si$ Interface Using Convergent Beam Electron Diffraction (수렴성빔 전자회절법을 이용한 $SiO_2/Si$ 계면 부위의 격자 변형량 측정)

  • The oxidation of silicon wafers is an essential step in the fabrication of semiconductor devices. It is known to induce degradation of electrical properties and lattice strain of Si substrate from thermal oxidation process due to charged interface and thermal expansion mismatch from thermally grown SiO, film. In this study, convergent beam electron diffraction technique is employed to directly measure the lattice strains in Si(100) and $4^{\circ}$ - off Si(100) substrates with thermally grown oxide layer at $1200^{\circ}C$ for three hours. The ratios of {773}-{973}/{773}-{953} Higher Order Laue Zone lines were used at [012] zone axis orientation. Lattice parameters of the Si substrate as a function of distance from the interface were determined from the computer simulation of diffraction patterns. Correction value for the accelerating voltage was 0.2kV for the kinematic simulation of the [012]. HOLZ patterns. The change in the lattice strain profile before and after removal of oxide films revealed the magnitudes of intrinsic strain and thermal strain components. It was shown that $4^{\circ}$ -off Si(100) had much lower intrinsic strain as surface steps provide effective sinks for the free Si atoms produced during thermal oxidation. Thermal strain in the Si substrate was in compression very close to the interface and high concentration of Si interstitials appeared to modify the thermal expansion coefficient of Si.

Lattice-Boltzmann Simulation of Fluid Flow around a Pair of Rectangular Cylinders

  • In this paper, the fluid flow behavior past a pair of rectangular cylinders placed in a two dimensional horizontal channel has been investigated using Lattice-Boltzmann Method(LBM). The LBM has built up on the D2Q9 model and the single relaxation time method called the Lattice-BGK(Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook)model. Streamlines, velocity, vorticity and pressure contours are provided to analyze the important characteristics of the flow field for a wide range of non dimensional parameters that present in our simulation. Special attention is paid to the effect of spacing(d) between two cylinders and the blockage ratio A(=h/H), where H is the channel height and h is the rectangular cylinder height. for different Reynolds numbers. The first cylinder is called upstream cylinder and the second one as downstream cylinder. The downstream fluid flow fields have been more influenced by its blockage ratios(A) and Reynolds numbers(Re) whereas the upstream flow patterns(in front of downstream cylinder) by the gap length(d) between two cylinders. Moreover, it is observed that after a certain gap, both upstream and downstream flow patterns are almost similar size and shape. The simulation result has been compared with analytical solution and it is found to be in excellent agreement.

GPU-accelerated Lattice Boltzmann Simulation for the Prediction of Oil Slick Movement in Ocean Environment (GPU 가속 기술을 이용한 격자 볼츠만법 기반 원유 확산 과정 시뮬레이션)

  • This paper describes a new simulation technique for advection-diffusion phenomena over the sea surface using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), capable of predicting oil dispersion from tankers. The LBM is used to solve the pollutant transport problem within the framework of the ocean environment. The sea space is represented by the lattices, where each lattice has the information on oil transportation. Since dispersed oils (i.e., oil droplets) at sea are transported by convection due to waves, buoyancy, and turbulent diffusion, the conservation of mass and many physical oil transport rules were used in the prediction model. Since the LBM is modeled using the uniform lattices and simple rules, it can be easily accelerated by the parallel mechanism, for example, GPU-accelerated method. The proposed model using the LBM is used to simulate a simple pollution event with the oil pollutants of 10,000 kL. The simulation results indicate that the LBM method accelerated with the GPU is 6 times faster than that without the GPU.

  • The present article is concerned with the application of the Monte Carlo simulation to electrochemistry of lithium intercalation from the thermodynamic view point. This article first introduced the fundamental concepts of the ensembles, and Ising and lattice gas models in statistical thermodynamics for the Monte Carlo simulation in brief. Finally the Monte Carlo method based upon the lattice gas model was employed to analyse thermodynamics of the lithium intercalation into the transition metal oxides. Especially we dealt with the thermodynamic properties as the electrode potential curve and the partial molar internal energy and entropy of lithium ion in the case of the $LiMn_2O_4$ electrode, and consequently confirmed the utility of the Monte Carlo method in the field of electrochemistry of the lithium intercalation.

Energy absorption of foam-filled lattice composite cylinders under lateral compressive loading

  • This paper reports on the energy absorption characteristics of a lattice-web reinforced composite sandwich cylinder (LRCSC) which is composed of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) face sheets, GFRP lattice webs, polyurethane (PU) foam and ceramsite filler. Quasi-static compression experiments on the LRCSC manufactured by a vacuum assisted resin infusion process (VARIP) were performed to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed cylinders. Compared with the cylinders without lattice webs, a maximum increase in the ultimate elastic load of the lattice-web reinforced cylinders of approximately 928% can be obtained. Moreover, due to the use of ceramsite filler, the energy absorption was increased by 662%. Several numerical simulations using ANSYS/LS-DYNA were conducted to parametrically investigate the effects of the number of longitudinal lattice webs, the number of transverse lattice webs, and the thickness of the transverse lattice web and GFRP face sheet. The effectiveness and feasibility of the numerical model were verified by a series of experimental results. The numerical results demonstrated that a larger number of thicker transverse lattice webs can significantly enhance the ultimate elastic load and initial stiffness. Moreover, the ultimate elastic load and initial stiffness were hardly affected by the number of longitudinal lattice webs.

  • Various researches have been performed on the topic of pedestrian traffic flow. At the beginning, the modeling and simulation method for the vehicular traffic flow was simply applied to pedestrian traffic flow. Recently, CA based simulation models are frequently applied to pedestrian flow analysis. Initially, the square Lattice Model is a base model for applying to pedestrians of counterflow and then Hexagonal Lattice Model improves its network as a hexagonal cell for more realistic movement of the avoidance of pedestrian conflicts. However these lattice models express only one directional movement because they express only one directional movement. In this paper, MLPM (the Multi-Layer Pedestrian Model) is suggested to give various origins and destinations for more realistic pedestrian motion in some place.
