A comparative study of contextual techniques : designing for new mobile application concepts (사용자 조사기법간 장-단점 비교 연구 : 휴대폰의 신기능 컨셉 발굴 도구로써의 고찰)

  • 최근 사용자 중심적 디자인이 제품 설계에 중요한 경영 철학으로 대두되면서, 사용자의 니즈와 요구사항을 제품에 반영하기 위한 다각도의 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 이 중 ethnography 적 조사 방법들은 사용자의 생활 속 경험 데이터에 기반하여 latent 한 니즈를 가시화 하기 위한 도구로써 점차 중요성이 커지고 있는 추세이다. 그리고 이와 관련 조사 방법들은 photo diary, experience sampling method, shadow tracking, contextual inquiry, in-depth interview 등 매우 다양하다. 각각이 조사 방법들은 도출되는 사용자의 생활 데이터 특성, 조사 참가자 조건, 소요 시간, 필요한 조사 참가자의 수 등에 따라 모두 특징이 상이하다. 휴대폰의 시장 cycle을 고려한다면, 휴대폰 도메인에서 이러한 조사 방법을 적용하기 위해서는 조사 목적 및 조사 진행 상황에 맞게 적절히 방법을 선택하여 사용자의 의미 있는 숨은 니즈를 발견하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 그러기 위해서는 각 방법들을 휴대폰의 사용자 조사에 적용하였을 때, 고유의 특징에 의해서 어떤 유용한 정보를 제공할 수 있는지 파악하는 것이 효과적인 조사를 위해 반드시 필요하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 휴대폰 니즈/신기능 발굴 목적으로 적용된 총 6 가지 조사 방법의 적용 사례를 간략히 소개 하고자 한다. 이를 통하여 기법의 특징을 기술하고, 이에 기반한 기법의 장-단점 비교를 통해 각 방법이 다른 방법 대비 상대적으로 의미있는 데이터를 제공하는 내용은 무엇인지, 어떤 방법들이 함께 쓰였을 때 시너지 효과를 발휘 할 수 있는지, 조사 목적에 따라서 생략될 수 있는 방법과 참가자에게 유용한 데이터를 끌어내기 위해 반드시 수행해야 하는 방법은 무엇인지에 대하여 기술하고자 한다.

The Reciprocal Effects of Deviant Self-Concept and Delinquent Behaviors Revisited: A Latent State-Trait Autoregressive Modeling Approach (청소년 비행과 일탈적 자아개념의 상호적 인과관계: 잠재 상태-특성 자기회귀 모델을 통한 재검증)

  • The purpose of this study was to attain a clearer understanding of the reciprocal effects of deviant self-concept and delinquent behaviors by applying a latent state-trait autoregressive modeling approach. Although traditional autoregressive cross-lagged (ARCL) modeling has been widely applied to test the longitudinal reciprocal relationship between the two constructs, it could produce misspecified findings if there were trait-like processes involved in this relationship. The latent state-trait autoregressive(LST-AR) modeling was applied to control trait effects of deviant self-concept and to examine the reciprocal causal relations between the two constructs. Data were taken from a sample of 3,449 eighth graders who were followed annually for 5 years from the Korea Youth Panel Study. The combining LST-AR model with ARCL model substantiated the reciprocal effects of deviant self-concept and delinquent behaviors, even after the stable trait component of deviant self-concept was taken into account. The present findings shed lights on the reciprocal effects of behaviors (i.e., delinquency) and self concepts (i.e., deviant self-concept). Not only did behaviors change corresponding self-concept, but the ways adolescents perceived themselves influenced their behaviors.

Multiple Cause Model-based Topic Extraction and Semantic Kernel Construction from Text Documents (다중요인모델에 기반한 텍스트 문서에서의 토픽 추출 및 의미 커널 구축)

  • Automatic analysis of concepts or semantic relations from text documents enables not only an efficient acquisition of relevant information, but also a comparison of documents in the concept level. We present a multiple cause model-based approach to text analysis, where latent topics are automatically extracted from document sets and similarity between documents is measured by semantic kernels constructed from the extracted topics. In our approach, a document is assumed to be generated by various combinations of underlying topics. A topic is defined by a set of words that are related to the same topic or cooccur frequently within a document. In a network representing a multiple-cause model, each topic is identified by a group of words having high connection weights from a latent node. In order to facilitate teaming and inferences in multiple-cause models, some approximation methods are required and we utilize an approximation by Helmholtz machines. In an experiment on TDT-2 data set, we extract sets of meaningful words where each set contains some theme-specific terms. Using semantic kernels constructed from latent topics extracted by multiple cause models, we also achieve significant improvements over the basic vector space model in terms of retrieval effectiveness.

  • This study suggests a process design using cognitive processes. Job characteristic model for job design and recent cognitive engineering studies for process design are reviewed briefly. By using these concepts, the lean production system is re-interpreted in terms of cognitive engineering and the latent dimensions of the lean production system are revealed as the application of cognitive engineering principles. An integrated process design framework for cognitive manufacturing system using job characteristic model is suggested for the effective design of manufacturing system. Propositions for empirical analysis of this model are also analyzed through a questionnaire survey. Propositions are (1) experiential cognition and motivation potential affect the ability, role perception, and need for achievement of the operator in the manufacturing system, (2) the ability, role perception, and need for achievement of the operator affect the job performance. Both propositions are supported by correlation analysis and path analysis.

The Psychometric Properties of Distance-Digital Subjective Happiness Scale

  • This study intended to test the structure of the latent factor of a subjective happiness scale and the stability of invariance across groups of students' classifications (gender and students' status). In the large, non-clinical sample (619), students completed the subjective happiness scale. The (CFA) confirmatory factor analysis was used to investigate the factor-structure of the measure, and multiple-group confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA) model was used to test the stability of invariance across groups of students classifications. The findings of the CFA indicated support for the original one-factor model. Additional analyses of the MGCFA method support the measurement (configural, metric and strong) invariant and practical invariant components of this model. There was an invariant across gender. There was partially invariant across groups of students' statuses. The scale exists in both groups to assess the same concepts of (single and married), excluding Items 3 and 4. Given that this study is the first investigation for the structure of the subjective happiness scale.

Fashion Window Display Design Development applying the Characteristics of Depaysement (데페이즈망의 특성을 활용한 패션윈도우 디스플레이 디자인 개발)

  • This study aims to provide visual data from analysis of the Depaysement approaches with new viewpoints to inspire and develop new fashion window design ideas. The literature and existing researches related to Depaysement were analyzed for theoretical review, and Depaysement expression approaches were identified by expression characteristics. Theme concepts using traditional Korean images, which could be applied to fashion window displays in Korea, were established, and K(Korean)-fashion design was created to develop fashion window display design. Then, the Depaysement fashion window display was executed using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. The results of this study are summarized below. 'Change of forms and materials' could visualize the factors inducing curiosity, which can directly stimulate the consumption sentiment lying latent in the mind of observers by assigning new values to fashion goods displayed inside windows. Unconscious experience and remarkable stories, which are not possible to encounter in an everyday setting, can be visualized through the window display in 'heterogeneous combination of objects.' 'The location change of an object' could express the refreshing and shocking scene to give weird anxiety and mental contradiction to observers by fashion window display, which could break fixed idea of human beings. 'The change of object awareness' could express contradiction and denial, which could liberate the unconsciousness lying latent inside observers through fashion window display. 'Change of spatial awareness' could create the design which maximized the fashion images of goods displayed by helping the observers to change the space of their unconsciousness selectively at their will through the fashion window display with hidden, strange, ambiguous and variable image like a riddle.

Impact of Leader-Member Relationship Quality on Job Satisfaction, Innovation and Operational Performance: A Case in Vietnam

  • This study examines the relation between the quality of leader-member relationship and operational performance of processing enterprises employees in Vietnam, while job satisfaction and innovation are as a mediator variable. In depth interviews are first conducted with five managers and professional workers in five processing enterprises to determine the latent variables and build the structured questionnaire with observed variables. A quantitative survey with 438 employees and managers from 300 processing enterprises was carried out. The method of exploratory factor analysis (EFA), Cronbach's alpha analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to test the reliability, the convergent nature, and the consistency of the concepts. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is used to test the proposed model. The result shows that job satisfaction, innovation and operational performance have positive effects on the quality of leader-member relationship. The relationship between leaders and members had indirect impact on employee's operational performance via their job satisfaction and innovation, which illustrates a mediator role of job satisfaction and innovation for employees' performance. The findings of this study suggest that managers need to focus on developing relationship with employees to improve their satisfaction, innovation and performance.

  • The epidemiology of plant disease deals with the dynamic processes of host-pathogen interactions, which determine the prevalence and severity of the disease. Epidemic processes for most foliar diseases of plants follow a series of steps: arrival of pathogens on plant surfaces, initial infection, incubation period, latent period, sporulation, dissemination of secondary inoculum, and infectious period. These complex biological processes are influenced by the environment-Man also often interfers with these processes by altering the host and pathogen populations and the environment. Slowing or halting any of the epidemic processes can delay the development of the epidemic, so that serious losses in yield due to disease do not occur. It is generally recognized that the most effective and efficient method of minimizing disease damage is through the use of resistant cultivars, particularly when other methods such as fungicide applications are not economically feasible-Populations of plant pathogens are not genetically uniform nor are they necessarily stable. Cultivars bred for resistance to current populations of a pathogen may not be resistant in the future due to selection pressures placed on the pathogen populations. Understanding population development and genetic variability in the pathogen, and knowledge of the genetics of resistance in the plant should help in developing breeding strategies that wi1l provide effective and stable disease control through genetic resistance.   • This study intends to define $\ulcorner$personality$\lrcorner$ as $\ulcorner$Human-ware$\lrcorner$ based on $\ulcorner$Gene-ware$\lrcorner$ in business management. The sides of personality in management are important source of manifestation of ‘Synergy’, because the importance of personality, that is, $\ulcorner$attitude$\lrcorner$ in individuals is increasing compared with the traditional techniques, $\ulcorner$craft$\lrcorner$. In this work it is considered that Human-ware activates interchange in reciprocal relation between Gene-ware and Hard-ware and performs balancing, intermediating (catalyzing) functions in relative that things(Geneware $\leftrightarrow$ Humanware $\leftrightarrow$ Hardware). $\ulcorner$Gene-ware$\lrcorner$ represents factor and phenomena of life in evolutionary information as human instincts, system of Gene-duum(Gene+Residuum(in phenomenology) ), Synchronization(in structuralism). In this view, this paper defines the concepts and effects of personality in management as the results of creative and stational functions of Human-ware. And this paper intends to identify the strata of psycho in human as three vertical aspects of $\ulcorner$Manifest$\lrcorner$, $\ulcorner$Latent$\lrcorner$, and $\ulcorner$Found$\lrcorner$, in this respects, function of Human-ware have analogy to that of Manifest in psychological behaviors. Finally, reviewing the Ford system based on Fordism and Taylor's system in Industrial Engineering, pursues the meaning and importance of personality, that is Humanware in management.
