Development and Application of a Profile Measurement Sensor for Remote Laser Welding Robots (원격 레이저 용접 로봇을 위한 형상 측정 센서의 개발과 응용)

  • A new profile measurement sensor was developed for remote laser welding robots. A stripe laser and a vision camera are used in the profile sensor. A simple sensor guided control scheme using the developed sensor is also introduced. The sensor can be used to guide the welding head in the remote welding application, where the working distance reaches to 450mm. In experiments, the profile measurement and the seam tracking were carried out using the developed sensor.

  • This paper presents studies on the development of an internal measurement system for the footwear using laser sensor. The measurement system gains to the height of the profile at internal footwear. It accomplishes the 3-axises control which uses ball screws, L-M guides and stepping motors. It is used a laser sensor at the measurement of the distance, and Labview is used for the control and the measurement. We can get the profile through reverse engineering for the LAST. The data of profile is fixed a heigh of the LAST. Then, we try to verify as compare the profile with one which is collected by Internal measurement system..

  • The intelligent sensory system is required to ensure the accurate welding performance. This paper describes the development of an intelligent vision sensor for the robotic laser welding. The sensor system includes a PC based vision camera and a stripe-type laser diode. A set of robust image processing algorithms are implemented. The laser-stripe sensor can measure the profile of the welding object and obtain the seam line. Moreover, the working distance of the sensor can be changed and other configuration is adjusted accordingly. The robot, the seam tracking system, and CW Nd:YAG laser are used for the laser welding robot system. The simple and efficient control scheme of the whole system is also presented. The profile measurement and the seam tracking experiments were carried out to validate the operation of the system.

  • A vision sensor measure range data using laser light source. This sensor generally use patterned laser which shaped single line. But this vision sensor cannot satisfy new trend which feeds foster and more precise processing. The sensor's sampling rate increases as reduced image processing time. However, the sampling rate can not over 30fps, because a camera has mechanical sampling limit. If we use multi line laser pattern, we will measure multi range data in one image. In the case of using same sampling rate camera, number of 2D range data profile in one second is directly proportional to laser line's number. For example, the vision sensor using 5 laser lines can sample 150 profiles per second in best condition.

Recognition of Gap between base Plates for Automated Welding of Thick Plates (후판 자동용접을 위한 용접물의 갭 측정)

  • Many automated welding equipment are used in the industry. However, there are some problems to get quality welds because of the geometric error, thermal distortion, and incorrect joint fit-up. These factors can make the gap between base plates in case of a thick plate welding. The welding product with the quality welds can not be obtained without consideration of the gap. In this paper, the robot path and welding conditions are modified to get the quality weld by detecting the position and size of the gap. In this work, a low-priced laser range sensor is used. The 3-dimensional information is obtained using the motion of a robot, which holds a laser range sensor. The position and size of the gap is calculated using signal processing of the measured 3-dimensional information of joint profile geometry. The data measured by a laser range sensor is segmented by an iterative end point method. The segmented data is optimized by the least square method. The existence of gap is detected by comparing the data with the segmented shape of template. The effects of robot measuring speed and gap size are also tested. The recognizability fo the gap is verified as good by comparing the real joint profile and the calculated joint profile using the signal processing.

  • The essential tasks to operate the welding robot are the acquisition of the position and/or shape of the parent metal. For the seam tracking or the robot automation, many kinds of contact and non-contact sensors are used. Recently, the vision sensor is most popular. In this paper, the development of the system which measures the profile of the welding part is described. The total system will be assembled into a compact module which can be attached to the head of welding robot system. This system uses the line-type structured laser diode and the vision sensor It implemented Direct Linear Transformation (DLT) for the camera calibration as well as radial distortion correction. The three dimensional shape of the parent metal is obtained after simple linear transformation and therefore, the system operates in real time. Some experiments are carried out to evaluate the performance of the developed system.
