  • In this study, PID control method was applied to decrease the power fluctuation of the pulse laser which is one of the major processing variables in laser machining process. To stabilize the power fluctuation of the pulse laser, we averaged 10 pulse outputs of Nd:YAG laser operating in 10Hz using boxcar averager, and with taking this averaged output as an input signal, we conducted PID control using optical attenuator which is consisted of half wave plate attached on the stepping motor and polarizer. When PID control was not enabled, the power fluctuation was 4.71% and with PID control, the power fluctuation was 1.86% for 2 hours and 1 hour respectively. As a result, we stabilized the power fluctuation of the pulse laser by 60.5%

  • Recently, surface texturing by atmospheric laser processing has been received lots of attention to improve the tribological performance of various surfaces and this laser texturing of surfaces could be considered in a large extent to improve tribological performance of PVD coated surface. Surface texturing could be performed by various manufacturing techniques such as indentation with hard materials, ion etching, abrasive jet machining, lithography, and Laser Surface Texturing (LST). Out of all these techniques, however it is generally accepted that laser surface texturing (LST) by atmospheric laser processing offers the most promising process as LST is very fast, environmentally-friendly, easy to control the shape and size of the microdimples. In this work various preliminary experimental results from the laser texturing on the PVD-coated steel substrate will be presented. Our results indicated that laser texturing definitely affect the tribological performance of the surfaces and the size as well as pattern type of laser texturing are one of the key factors. From the wear tests against an alumina counterpart ball at room temperature under oil-lubricated condition, laser surface texturing on the CrZrSiN films reduced the friction coefficients by approximately more than 5 times in the case of narrow patterned surfaces.

  • Presently, A glass is widely used in telecommunication system, optoelectronic devices and micro electro mechanical systems. Micro drilling of glass using the laser can save processing cost and improve the accuracy. This paper experiments micro drilling using KrF excimer laser on the pyrex glass of $500{\mu}m$ thickness. We have experiment to find out optimum laser machining conditions of micro drilling of glass and ablation depth and influence by processing parameter suc'h pulse repetition rate, energy density and number of pulses. Pulse repetition rate don't influence ablation depth at the micro drilling of pyrex glass. Energy density influence micro drilling of parallelism and maximum thickness that can be drilled. Ablation depth is most influenced by number of pulses.

  • We present investigations of the surface micromachining for transparent glass substrate, e.g. soda lime glass using tightly focused 800nm Ti:sapphire femtosecond laser. In this study, experiment conditions such as laser intensity, scanning speed, focus position were controlled as variable parameters to decide optimal machining conditions. This study shows clearly that laser intensity and scanning speed are dominant factors for good surface morphology. Using the optimal conditions, grooves with 50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ line width were fabricated on glass substrate and their surface morphologies were investigated from SEM image.

  • This study is about Jig used in wiring when we make Probecard and Large Scale Intergrated Electronic Circuit. The most universal wiring method is molding with Bond. Polymer film is punched down and adhesives is applied after wiring. Due to shrinkage and modification many problems still have happened in the process of molding. To solve these problems, ceramic plate was introduced in the study. Using Laser, an experiment of microhole treatment on ceramic plate was proceeded. Laser energy, assistance gas, and special features by purity degree were analyzed with the 35W low capacity YAG-Laser. In the condition of energy 0.08J, frequency 20Hz and interval time 200$mutextrm{s}$, about 70${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ microhole was adequate for the Probecard Jig. In the purity experiment of ceramic materials, high purity ceramic met with good result for microhole. But the price is too high. The shape and size of holes machined combustion gas $O_2$ were better than those in $N_2$ and Ar, the inert gas.

  • Sensor feedback for process control is one of the essential elements is an automated deburring procedure. This paper presents the implementation of acoustic emission (AE), which has been developed as a feedback sensing technique for precision (mechanical) deburring, in a precision laser deburring process. AE signals were sampled for laser machining/deburring under various experimental conditions and analyzed using several signal-processing methods including AErms and spectral analysis. The results, such as the sensitivity of AE signals for different laser cutting depths, edge detection capability and the frequency analysis show a clear correlation between physical process parameters and the AE signals. A subsequent control strategy for deburring automation is also briefly discussed.

  • Ultrashort pulse laser drilling of polycarbonate track-etched membrane (pTEM) material was used to fabricate a mouse embryo cell trapping device. Holes with a diameter of $2{\mu}m$ to $5{\mu}m$ were fabricated on a $10{\mu}m$ thick membrane using a femtosecond laser with a 150 fs pulse width and 775 nm wavelength and multiple-pulse irradiation. In cell trapping tests, the overall cell occupancy of the machined holes in the fabricated pTEM was found to be more than 80%. The results of a single pulse and multiple pulse irradiation were compared in terms of the surface quality. It was generally found that a single pulse with high energy was less desirable than irradiation with multiple pulses of lower energy.

  • In this work, modeling and analysis of thermal effects laser drilling under water for ceramics were presented. Laser is a unique tool for machining ceramics due to the characteristic of non-contact material removal. However, ablation by a laser often induces a thermal effect on the material and an increased heat-affected-zone or deposition of debris can be observed on the machined parts. The underwater surrounding improved a heat transfer rate to cooling down the machined part and could prevent any deposition of debris near the machined surfaces and edges. The heat modeling was applied to obtain the temperature distributions as well as temperature gradients between the material and surroundings. The cooling effect of the underwater laser drilling was improved and a more stable temperature distribution was calculated. The actual laser drilling results of ceramic laser drilling were presented to verify the effects of underwater laser drilling.

  • In this paper, micro trench structure is fabricated by femtosecond laser for inserting optical reflecting wavelength filter in planar waveguide. The width and depth of the trench is controlled by femtosecond laser machining condition. Also, large scale of single channel with 500um and 1000um on silica plate is fabricated by femtosecond laser, and roughness of the channel surface is polished by $CO_2$ laser for the insertion of the filter. Then, the characteristic of the planar waveguide inserted the filter is verified.

  • A new technique for the measurement of surface roughness based on the Intensity fluctuations of laser light backscattered form a moving surface has been introduced. The developed method will be quite useful for evaluating the surface quality under machining with more detailed Information by detecting the surface roughness along both directions simultaneously.
