  • A bullet launcher can be developed as a smart instrument, especially for use in the military section, that can track, identify, detect, mark, lock, and shoot a target by implementing an image-processing system. In this research, the application of object recognition system, laser encoding as a unique marker, 2-dimensional movement, and pneumatic as a shooter has been studied intensively. The results showed that object recognition system could detect various colors, patterns, sizes, and laser blinking. Measuring the average error value of the object distance by using the camera is ±4, ±5, and ±6% for circle, square and triangle form respectively. Meanwhile, the average accuracy of shots on objects is 95.24% and 85.71% in indoor and outdoor conditions respectively. Here, the average prototype response time is 1.11 s. Moreover, the highest accuracy rate of shooting results at 50 cm was obtained 98.32%.

  • This work forcus on the development of gas sensor that measure the concentrations of exhaust gas using diode laser. Each diode laser for exhaust gas measurement is set to work at near-IR using both DA and WMS methods. Also use of fiber-coupled optical elements makes such a sensor rugged and easy to align. On-line data acquisition and processing can be performed with a PC running LabVIEW software, and absorption signals are measured simultaneously by multiplexing method. Finally, It were experimentally compared WMS (Wavelength Modulation Spectroscopy) with DA (Direct Absorption) for the accuracy.

  • A laser scanning technique has been attracting much attention as a new technology to acquire location information. This technique might be applicable to a wide range of areas, most notably in geomatics, due to its high accuracy of location and automation of high-density data acquisition. In this study, the coastline was extracted using laser scanning. Through this laser scanning technique, efficient change detection of coast section can be ensured and also they can provide important information to be used when detecting a coast section in the future.

  • The main method in micro-etching process, used in manufacturing semiconductors, electronic components, circuits, is Photo Masking method that exposes and develops on the photo-sensitivity solutions or films. This method enables one to process highly precisely, $\pm$0.03 mm in end line location area. But this has limits in a high speed / wide width process, difficulties in endless masking, and the problem of high price. We have developed the direct masking method to make use of Gravure printing, widely used in grocery packing sheet printing. We made cylinder tools to influence the masking quality by laser stream process. We have confirmed that the end line location accuracy in the line width of the product is improved from 0.12 mm to $\pm$0.07 mm level, after etching process.

  • Optogalvanic spectrum of Ne has been obtained in the visible wavelength region 550-600 nm by using pulsed tunable dye laser. The recorded laser wavelengths are calibrated on the basis of the accurately-known Ne atomic transition lines. The accuracy of the measured wavelength is ${\pm}$ 0.005 nm. We tabulated the wavelengths and the relative intensities of the OG signals which are useful to calibrate the dye laser using R-590, R-610 dyes.

  • In this paper, we propose a method combining an accelerometer with a cross structured light system to estimate the golf green slope. The cross-line laser provides two laser planes whose functions are computed with respect to the camera coordinate frame using a least square optimization. By capturing the projections of the cross-line laser on the golf slope in a static pose using a camera, two 3D curves’ functions are approximated as high order polynomials corresponding to the camera coordinate frame. Curves’ functions are then expressed in the world coordinate frame utilizing a rotation matrix that is estimated based on the accelerometer’s output. The curves provide some important information of the green such as the height and the slope’s angle. The curves estimation accuracy is verified via some experiments which use OptiTrack camera system as a ground-truth reference.

  • Recently, unmanned aircrafts for safe measurement in hazardous locations have been developed. In a method of operation of unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAV), there are two methods of manual control and automatic control. Small UAVs are used for low altitude surveillance flights where unknown obstacles can be encountered. Obstacle avoidance is one of the most challenging tasks which the UAV has to perform with high level of accuracy. In this study, we used a laser range finder as an obstacle detector in automatic navigation of unmanned aircraft to patrol the destination automatically. We proposed a system to avoid obstacles automatically by measuring the angle and distance of the obstacle using the laser range finder.

  • Currently knowledge of strain in welds has mainly been obtained from strain gage method; that is directly attaching the gage to the most of the material. The very flew non-contact methods are still in the early stage. One of the non-contact methods is by the use of the laser that has high-level of the accuracy for the measurement, and this laser also has excellent characteristics on which many studies for its applications are focused throughout the many fields. The paper is on the measurement of the strain caused by the characteristics and the temperature changes of the GTA welded zone employed with 3D ESPI system that is functionally modified through the laser ESPI system. This system may be applied the steel plate such as for the electronics, chemistry, flood instrument and electronic appliances.

  • In this paper, a new method is presented to measure the refractive index of single plain glass or multilayered materials, based on a laser frequency-shifted confocal feedback microscope. Combining the laser frequency-shifted feedback technique and the confocal effect, the method can attain high axial-positioning accuracy, stability and sensitivity. Measurements of different samples are given, including N-BK7 glass, Silica plain glass, and a microfluidic chip with four layers. The results for N-BK7 glass and Silica plain glass show that the measurement uncertainty in the refractive index is better than 0.001. Meanwhile, the feasibility of this method for multilayered materials is tested. Compared to conventional methods, this system is more compact and has less difficulty in sample processing, and thus is promising for applications in the area of refractive-index measurement.

  • One of the important research issues in mobile robot is how to detect the 3D environment fast and accurately, and recognize it. Sensing methods of utilizing laser structured light and/or stereo vision are representatively used among a number of methodologies developed to date. However, the methods are still in need of achieving high accuracy and reliability to be used for real world environments. In this paper to implement a new robotic environmental sensing algorithm is presented by combining the information between intensity image and that of laser structured light image. To see how effectively the algorithm applied to real environments, we developed a sensor system that can be mounted on a mobile robot and tested performance for a series of environments.
