  • RF skin tracking of instrumentation RADAR cannot acquire stable track data, because of effect of multipath interference especially elevation direction. In this paper, low altitude target tracking method using laser tracking system is suggested to overcome this restriction. The effect of multipath can be reduced by increasing angle resolution with laser characteristics of very short pulse and narrow beamwidth. RF skin track, beacon track and laser track data for the integrated calibration target on the ground and target ship on the sea are gathered. And they are compared and analyzed to confirm the performance of laser tracking system. As a result, it shows that the suggested laser track method has better performance than RF skin track under multipath conditions.

  • In this paper, the characteristics analysis of LMD track, such as including track structure, track wear resistance and track thickness, were analyzed to enhance the deposition efficiency using a diode-pumped disk laser. SKD61 hot work steel plate and Fe based AISI M2 alloy were used as a the substrate and powder for the LMD process, respectively. The laser power, track pitch and powder feed rate among LMD parameters were adopted to estimate the deposition efficiency. As the laser power is increased, heat input and melting pool on the substrate is grown also increases, so resulting in the increased LMD track thickness was increased. Through EPMA mapping analysis of the cross-section in the LMD track, it was observed that all the elements are evenly distributed inside. Therefore, the entire hardness in the LMD track is expected to be almost uniform regardless of location. The characteristics of the LMD specimen were excellent compared to the STD11 specimen in terms of the wear track width and the wear rate as well as the coefficient of friction. Especially the wear rate of LMD specimen has been significantly reduced by 60 % or more. From Based on the experimental results, the prediction formula of LMD thickness was calculated by using laser power, track pitch and powder feed rate.

  • The characteristics of the laser metal deposition parameters were studied to enhance the deposition efficiency using a diode pumped disk laser. STD61 hot tool steel plate and Fe based AISI M2 alloy were used as a substrate and powder for the laser metal deposition, respectively. Among the laser metal deposition parameters the laser power, track pitch and powder feed rate were used to estimate the deposition efficiency. From the experimental results, the deposition efficiency was shown to be excellent when 1.8kW laser power 500um track pitch and 10g/min of the powder feed rate were used. For this optimal condition the average hardness of the deposition track was approximately 830HV, and this value is 30~50% better than the hardness of the commercially produced tool steel after heat treatment.

  • In this study, AISI M2 powder was selected primarily through various literature in order to improve the hardness and wear resistance. Among the laser metal deposition parameters, laser power was studied to improve the deposition efficiency in the laser metal deposition using a diode pumped disk laser. SKD61 hot work steel plate and AISI M2 powder were used as a substrate and powder for laser metal deposition, respectively. Fixed parameters are CTWD, focal position, travel speed, powder feed rate, etc. Experiments for the laser metal deposition were carried out by changing laser power. Through optical micrographs analysis of cross-section in LMD track, effect of the major parameters were predicted by track pitch. As the track pitch increased, so the reheated zone width, the overlap width and the minimum thickness was decreased. The hardness was decreased in the HAZ area, the hardness in the reheated HAZ area was decreased significantly and regularly in particular.

  • In this paper, robot endeffector tracking using sensory information from structured laser pattern diode, is described. In order to track robot endeffector robustly irrespective of translation, scaling and rotation of robot working tool, structured laser pattern is used as track feature. Structured laser patterns of crosshair, concentric circles, dot matrix, and parallel lines are illuminated to robot endeffector. Illuminated laser patterns are held invariently and coherently irrespective of various motions of robot endeffector. Extracting and tracking these invariant structured laser patterns as track feature, the whole system keeps tracking of the robot endeffector robustly and effectively provided that structured laser pattern is always assumed to aim at robot endeffector.

An SKD61 hot work steel plate and AISI M2 powder were used as a substrate and powder for laser metal deposition, respectively. Experiments for the laser metal deposition were carried out by changing the laser power and track layer. The quality of the track surface and cross-section after applying the single-layer method was better than that obtained from applying the multi-layer method. As the laser power increased, the track thickness was increased, and the surface roughness deviation was decreased. In laser power condition of 1.6kW, the maximum hardness of the deposition track was 790Hv. This value was 40% better than the hardness of the SKD61 after heat treatment.

  • Railway track supports and guides train and it directly affects ride quality and safety. To maintain track quality, regular maintenance activity is essential but it degrades track usage since maintenance activity occupies the track during the work. To achieve maximum track efficiency, track inspection should be performed at commercial running speed. In this paper, we designed and developed high speed rail profile measurement system using laser light sectioning method with line laser generator, digital camera and DSP based image processing system. The measurement system can supports rail profile measurement at the speed of 300 Km/h that can be applied to KTX.

  • PC-TEMs (Polycarbonate Track-Etched membranes) were micro-drilled for biomedical applications by ultrafast pulsed laser. The ablation and damage characteristics were studied on PE-TEMs by assuming porous thin membranes. The experiments were conducted in the range of 2.02 $J/cm^2$ and 8.07$J/cm^2$. The ablation threshold and damage threshold were found to be 2.56$J/cm^2$ and 1.14$J/cm^2$, respectively. While a conical shaped drilled holes was made in lower fluence region, straight shaped holes were drilled in higher fluence region. Nanoholes made the membrane as porous material and ablation characteristics for both bulk and thin film membranes were compared.

  • This study purposed on introducing a new automated solution for detecting railway tracks and reconstructing track models from the mobile laser scanning data. The proposed solution completes following procedures; the study initiated with detecting a potential railway region, called Region Of Interest (ROI), and approximating the orientation of railway track trajectory with the raw data. At next, the knowledge-based detection of railway tracks was performed for localizing track candidates in the first strip. In here, a strip -referring the local track search region- is generated in the orthogonal direction to the orientation of track trajectory. Lastly, an initial track model generated over the candidate points, which were detected by GMM-EM (Gaussian Mixture Model-Expectation & Maximization) -based clustering strip- wisely grows to capture all track points of interest and thus converted into geometric track model in the tracking by detection framework. Therefore, the proposed railway track tracking process includes following key features; it is able to reduce the complexity in detecting track points by using a hypothetical track model. Also, it enhances the efficiency of track modeling process by simultaneously capturing track points and modeling tracks that resulted in the minimization of data processing time and cost. The proposed method was developed using the C++ program language and was evaluated by the LiDAR data, which was acquired from MMS over an urban railway track area with a complex railway scene as well.

  • Presentation with a projector and a laser pointer is widely used in seminar or conference. The function of a laser pointer in the presentation is just indicating a certain object. In this paper, to give a mouse-like function to a laser pointer, we implement a system that locates the track of a laser pointer. The system contains a FPGA that implements camera interface and noise filter. A software for ARM processor is programmed to analyze the spectrum of the captured image and track the pattern of a laser pointer with previously stored image. As a result, the tracking system could locate the position correctly most of time within 20m with 98% accuracy.
