Fault Isolation for a Diesel Engine Actuator (디젤엔진 위치서보시스템을 위한 고장 식별)

  • In a large diesel engine actuator position servo system, it is impossible to isolate an actuator fault from a load torque with conventional fault detection isolation (FDI) schemes because they are propagated through a channel. This paper deals with a parity equation based residual generation to isolate them in the system. The actuator fault is modelled by a multiplicative type fault that can be characterized as discrepancies between the nominal and actual plant parameters, whereas the load torque is modelled by an additive disturbance. The transformation implemented in the residual generator should be determined on-line to achieve the isolation. Simulation studies show the practical applicability of the FDI scheme.

Grid Generation and flow Analysis around a Twin-skeg Container Ship (Twin-skeg형 컨테이너선 주위의 격자계 생성과 유동 해석)

  • Twin-skeg type stern shapes are recently adopted for very large commercial ships. However it is difficult to apply a CFD system to a hull form having twin-skeg, since grid topology around a twin-skeg type stern is more complicated than that of a conventional single-screw ship, or of an open-shaft type twin-screw ship with center-skeg. In the present study a surface mesh generator and a multi-block field grid generation program have been developed for twin-skeg type stern. Furthermore, multi-block flow solvers are utilized for potential and viscous flow analysis around a twin-skeg type stern The present computational system is applied to a 15,000TEU container ship with twin-skeg to prove the applicability. Wave profiles and wake distribution are calculated using the developed flow analysis tools and the results are compared with towing tank measurements.

  • An H.264 algorithm is commonly used for video compression applications. This algorithm requires a large number of data computations, for example, the sum of absolute difference (SAD) operation. We analyzed H.264 reference encoding workloads. The H.264 encoding program has 8.78% SAD operation. The SAD operation is to sum up 16 difference-values in H.264 $4{\times}4$ sub-blocks. In order to accelerate SAD operations, we implemented an application specific instruction-set processor (ASIP) that can execute SAD and data transfer instructions. The proposed coprocessor has an absolute value generator and a carry save adder (CSA) unit to sum up 8 difference-values per one clock cycle. We completed SAD operation in 2 clock cycles. Experimental results show that the performance is improved by 34% of total execution time.

  • 본 논문은 대전원 탈락 사고시 계통의 지나친 주파수하락을 방지하기 위하여 주파수하락의 초기변화율을 근거로 하여 적정부하를 차단할 수 있도록 저주파수계전기의 합리적인 정정방법을 제시한다. 본 연구에서의 부하차단 전략은, 주파수가 59.5[Hz]에 이를 때 부하차단 제1단을 일으키고 제1,2단에의 크기가 주파수하락의 초기변화율을 근거하여 주어진 계통외란의 크기인 총 정태부하 차단량의 1/2이되도록 정정하였다. 그 결과 새로 제안한 방법이 주파수 회복특성에 있어서 종래의 방법보다 더 효과적임을 알 수 있다.

Islanding Detection Based on Complex Power at the Intertie (연계점에서의 복소전력을 이용한 단독운전 판단기법)

  • A large scale embedded generator or a micro-grid is usually interconnected to the grid through the dedicated line. Immediately after the removal of the grid supply, it must be disconnected and remain disconnected until the normal grid supplies are restored. This paper proposes an islanding detection algorithm based on complex power at the intertie. Complex power at the intertie delivered to the grid has a value depending on power flow during normal operation. When loss of mains occurs, complex power at the intertie moves to a value depending on the parameters of the dedicated line. The performance of the proposed algorithm was investigated under various operating and fault conditions. The proposed algorithm can detect an islanding operation even if no power is exchanged prior to loss of mains and discriminate the fault condition from islanding.

  • In this article, 1 would like to explore the estimation method of time-varying voltage sags in large industrial systems considering the short circuit contributions of rotating machines. For the power distribution system of KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation), the magnitude of initial symmetrical short circuit current is generally not changed. However, in industrial systems which contain a number of rotating machines, the magnitude of voltage sag is generally changed from the initial to the clearing time of a fault due to the decreasing contribution of rotating machines for a fault current. The time-varying characteristics of voltage sags can be calculated using a short circuit analysis that is considered the time-varying fault currents. For this, the prediction formulations of time-varying voltage sags are proposed using a foreign standard. The proposed method contains the consideration of generator and motor effects. For the test of proposed formulations, a simple system of industrial consumer is used for the comparison conventional and proposed estimation method of voltage sag characteristics.

  • The railway characteristic, which is concerned, as most utilities is unbalance produced by the large single-phase loads. Here are two theoretical concerns associated with unbalanced loads. First, generator rotor heating resulting from unbalanced current flow, Second, there is the possibility of motor overheating in industrial plants, due to the unbalanced voltage. Therefore, the exact assessment of the voltage unbalance must be carried out preferentially as well as load forecast at stages of designing and planning for the electric railway system. This paper proposes a new analysis model to more effectively estimate voltage unbalance. Numerous distributed circuits in the electric railway system are composed by components. The entire system can be easily modeled by the combination of four-port representation of each component in parallel and/or series. Simulation results using the model are compared with field data, and it verifies the accuracy of the proposed model.

  • Recently, interest in multivalued(MV) logic system has been increased, despites the apparent difficulties for practical application. This is because of the many advantages of the MV compared with the 2-valued logic systems, such as; (a) higher speed of arithmetical operation on account of the smaller number of digits required for a given data, (b) better utilization of data transmission channels on account of the higher information contents per line, (c) potentially higher density of information storage. This paper describes a MV switching theory and experimental MV logic elements based on current-mode logic technique. These elements tried were a 3-stable pulse generator, a ternary AND, a ternary OR, a MT circuit and a ternary inverter. Tristable flops which are indispensable for constituting a ternary shift register are synthesized using these gates. A BCD to TCD decoder, and vice versa, are proposed by using a ternary inverter and some binary gates. Thus, the feasibility of a large scale MV digital system has been demonstrate.

  • We have studied the backward wave oscillator, a power pulsed generator oscillator at 20 GHz has higher frequency then current one. An absolute instability linear analysis was used for the purpose of designing the slow wave structure. A large diameter of the slow wave structure was adopted to prevent the breakdown brought about by the increase of power density.

  • To obtain a low ground resistance in high resistivity soil, long vertical ground rods are often used. However, if the lightning current or fault current with high frequency flow into the grounding system, the ground impedance is significantly increased because of the inductive behavior. This paper presents how the impulse current works on the long vertical ground electrodes. The different shape of current was impressed between ground rods and auxiliary electrode by using impulse generator and the ground impedance was calculated from the ground potential rise.
