Remediation grouting has been widely used for the rehabilitation of various civil works like hydraulic and traffic structures. Recently there were some cases of remediation grouting for repairing old dams in korea. So this study will describe the case of remediation grouting of the concrete dam base located east-northern part of Seoul. We use Lugeon Test and Borehole Image Processing System(BIPS) for estimating the effectiveness of remediation grouting of this project. As the results of this study, we could find the lots of joints between the old concrete body and the weathered rock base. So the about 30% quantity of total cement grouts was injected at the boundary surface between concrete and rock base. And Lugeon Test and BIPS could be compared relatively because BIPS results could be presented quantitatively as well as qualitative analysis. Finally, we could find microfine cement was very effectively injected to the fine fissured concrete body compared with ordinary portland cement, but there was little injectability differences beteween microfine cement and ordinary portland cement at the large cracks or cavities were developed rock base.
In this study the effect of heartwood-coating (HCO), vapor-dam (VD), bark-remaining (BR) and bark-remaining-coating (BRC) treatments on the air circulating oven-drying characteristics of Japanese larch hollowed round-post was evaluated. The drying times of the hollowed round-posts for control, VD, HCO and BR specimens were 72, 168, 204 and 240 hours, respectively, from the initial MC to about 8% MC, which was recommended as the indoor in-use MC. The temperature in the hole of the VD specimen was lower than that of wood and the difference between air temperature in the hole and wood temperature became large during drying period. The vapor pressure of air in the hole was higher than that of inside wood for all specimens except VD specimen. The surface checks on all specimens were observed in increasing order of BR, BRC, UC, HCO and VD specimens.

The objective of this study is to analyze the present situation of compaction equipment used in the earth fill dam construction, and the compaction effects of varions types of equipment on core and pervious zones of the fill dam. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. Banking materials mostly used for the core zone were soils classified as CL, SC and ML, while those classified as SM, ML and SC were predominant for the pervious zone. 2. Equipments used practically in the real fields were considerably different from those specified in the designs. 3. It was found that the relationship between optimum water content and maximum dry density for both core and pervious materials showed to be linear, ranging from 10% to 25% water content. That is, ${\gamma}$dmax (core) = 2.2555-0.0284 Wopt ${\gamma}$dmax(pervious) =2.239-0.028 Wopt 4. The generalized compaction guides for all kinds of equipment and soil types consi- dered in this study may be recommended as N=8-10 T=2Ocm, N=10-12 T=3Ocm for core zone(98%) and N=6-8 T=2Ocm, N=8-10 T=3Ocm for pervious zone (95%). 5. The coefficient of permeability in the field tests showed abont 10 times as high as the laboratory test value. This large deviation, however, was due to the horizontal permeation and considered not to be significant in the light of the satisfactory compaction ratio in the field compac- tion.

Earth and rock fill dam is our typical dam because of their inherent flexibility and adaptability to various fundation conditions. In order to secure structural safety, rockfill materials are used angular particles obtained by blasting parent rock or rounded particles collected from river beds. Concrete-faces rockfill dams(CFRD) and Concrete-faces gravelfill dams(CFGD) have become popular in the last 20 years as s result of their good performance and low cost compared with the rockfill dam. These Dams are also constructed by the materials. A key factor in the design of the dams is the deformations induced during construction and upon reservoir filling. These can be predicted using the stress-strain and strength properties can be adequately define. However the stress-strain properties of rockfill are difficult to determine because the properties are affected by such factors as particle grading, size and shape of particles, stress conditions, and particle crushing. In our study, testing of the behavior of the rockfill materials are essential prerequisites to the realistic analysis and design of the CFGD. This paper deals with laboratory testing of particle crushing among the study.
Seismic vulnerability assessment is a useful tool for rational safety analysis and planning of large and complex structural systems; it can deal with the effects of uncertainties on the performance of significant structural systems. In this study, an efficient dynamic reliability approach, probability density evolution methodology (PDEM), is proposed for seismic vulnerability analysis of earth dams. The PDEM provides the failure probability of different limit states for various levels of ground motion intensity as well as the mean value, standard deviation and probability density function of the performance metric of the earth dam. Combining the seismic reliability with three different performance levels related to the displacement of the earth dam, the seismic fragility curves are constructed without them being limited to a specific functional form. Furthermore, considering the seismic fragility analysis is a significant procedure in the seismic probabilistic risk assessment of structures, the seismic vulnerability results obtained by the dynamic reliability approach are combined with the results of probabilistic seismic hazard and seismic loss analysis to present and address the PDEM-based seismic probabilistic risk assessment framework by a simulated case study of an earth dam.
To identify the inflow and outflow characteristics of allchthonous organic matters and examine the change of allochthonous organic matter load pattern due to the climate change, we investigated the temporal variations of DOC and POC concentrations within inflow water and dam discharge water and spatio-temporal distribution of POM within the lake water in Lake Soyang which is the largest dam reservoir in Korea in 2006. Most of allochthonous DOC flowed into the lake water during initial rain and was not affected by the amount of precipitation, whereas most of allochthonous POC flowed into during concentrated heavy rain and the concentration of POC was significantly associated with the amount of inflow water and precipitation. Calculated annual allochthonous organic matter loads in Lake Soyang from 2003 to 2006 using the regression equation between the amount of inflow water and the concentration of POC indicate allochthonous organic matter loads are mainly affected by total influx and extreme influx of inflow water. The spatio-temporal distribution of POM indicated allochthonous organic matter of inflow river during flood period in July transported from upper part to middle and lower part of the lake a month later respectively along the middle layer of water column in Lake Soyang.
This study suggests a new hydrostatic pressure distribution corrected for nonuniform flow over a channel of large slope. For analyzing shallow-water flows over large slope accurately, it is developed a finite-volume model incorporating the pressure distribution to the shallow water equations. Traveling speed of the hydraulic jump downstream a parabolic bump in the drain case is quite reduced by the weakened bottom gradient source term in the model with the pressure correction. In simulating the dam-break flow over a triangular sill, it is identified that the model with pressure correction could capture the water surface by the digital imaging measurements more than the model without that. Due to the pressure correction decreasing the reflected flows on and increasing overflows over the sill, there are good agreements in the experiment and the simulation with that. Therefore, this model is expected to be applied to such practical problems as flows in the spillway of dam or run-up on the beach.

Instream flows are defined as the stream flows needed to protect and preserve instream resources and values. They are supplied by the essential discharge for maintaining the channel. However, due to the lack of precipitation during the dry season, which is usually between the months of January and April, natural flows are not enough for the instream flows, thus leaving the dams at a shortage. In this paper, the method which will be discussed will show a physical way to improve water quality by the dilution of water that is supplied from a reservoir or dam, and how it is analyzed at the Han River basin. For the sake of this analysis, the basin has been divided into 33 catchments. Each catchment's natural flow has been simulated by SWAT-K, and the future water demand has been estimated using statistical data. It has also been assumed that the Han River basin has two large reservoirs(Chung-ju dam, and So-yang dam). The supply of potential discharge has been calculated using a case of water separately from each dam, as well as supply water from both dams.

This study is to evaluate the applicability of SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model for multi-purpose dams and multi-function weirs operation in Namhan river basin ($12,577km^2$) of South Korea. The SWAT was calibrated (2005 ~ 2009) and validated (2010 ~ 2014) considering of 4 multi-purpose dams and 3 multi-function weirs using daily observed dam inflow and storage, evapotranspiration, soil moisture, and groundwater level data. Firstly, the dam inflow was calibrated by the five steps; (step 1) the physical rate between total runoff and evapotranspiration was controlled by ESCO, (step 2) the peak runoff was calibrated by CN, OV_N, and CH_N, (step 3) the baseflow was calibrated by GW_DELAY, (step 4) the recession curve of baseflow was calibrated by ALPHA_BF, (step 5) the flux between lateral flow and return flow was controlled by SOL_AWC and SOL_K, and (step 6) the flux between reevaporation and return flow was controlled by REVAPMN and GW_REVAP. Secondly, for the storage water level calibration, the SWAT emergency and principle spillway were applied for water level from design flood level to restricted water level for dam and from maximum to management water level for weir respectively. Finally, the parameters for evapotranspiration (ESCO), soil water (SOL_AWC) and groundwater level fluctuation (GWQMN, ALPHA_BF) were repeatedly adjusted by trial error method. For the dam inflow, the determination coefficient $R^2$ was above 0.80. The average Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) was from 0.59 to 0.88 and the RMSE was from 3.3 mm/day to 8.6 mm/day respectively. For the water balance performance, the PBIAS was between 9.4 and 21.4 %. For the dam storage volume, the $R^2$ was above 0.63 and the PBIAS was between 6.3 and 13.5 % respectively. The average $R^2$ for evapotranspiration and soil moisture at CM (Cheongmicheon) site was 0.72 and 0.78, and the average $R^2$ for groundwater level was 0.59 and 0.60 at 2 YP (Yangpyeong) sites.

The purpose of this study is to carry out the quantitative sensitivity analysis on rockfill material influencing the dam crest displacement of CFRD(Concrete-Faced Rockfill Dam) subjected to earthquake loading. The total 105 dynamic numerical analyses (2 input earthquake, 2 magnitudes for each earthquake. 27 rockfill material property combinations obtained from large triaxial tests) on CFR type "D" dam in operation were conducted. The global sensitivity analysis was carried out using the results of numerical analysis. From the results of sensitivity analysis, It was found that the crest settlement of the CFR type dam subjected to earthquake was absolutely affected by the shear modulus of rockfill material irrespective of the input earthquakes and the maximum acceleration of each earthquake. Also, it was found that the horizontal displacement of the dam crest was highly affected by the shear modulus of rockfill material though the extent of effect on that was smaller than the settlement and the extent of effect depended on the input earthquakes and the maximum acceleration of each earthquake. On the contrary, it was found that the effect of friction angle was negligible.
