X-RAYING LARGE-SCALE STRUCTURE

  • We review the observational evidence for the existence of a warm-hot intergalactic medium (WHIM). We expect that the morphology of this material is similar to that of cosmic rays and magnetic fields in large-scale structure, i.e., filaments connecting clusters of galaxies. Direct evidence for the WHIM, either in emission or absorption, is weak.

  • I will give an overview of the recent work in deriving cosmological constraints from deep learning methods applied to the large scale distribution of galaxies. I will specifically highlight the success of convolutional neural networks in linking the morphology of the large scale matter distribution to dark energy parameters and modified gravity scenarios.

  • Large-scale vortical structure of a turbulent separation bubble affected by unsteady wake is essential to understand flow mechanisms in various fluid devices. A spoked-wheel type of wake generator provides unsteady wake, which modifies the turbulent separation bubble significantly by changing rotation directions and passing frequencies. A detailed mechanism of vortex shedding from the separation bubble with unsteady wake is analyzed by taking a conditional average with spatial box filtering, which spatially integrates measured signals at pre-determined wavelength. A convecting nature of the large-scale vortical structure is analyzed carefully. Spatial evolution of the large-scale vortical structure with frequency variance is also exemplified.

대형 2차 와류에 의한 봉다발 부수로에서의 난류 열전달 향상에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experiment of Turbulent Heat Transfer Performance Enhancement in Rod Bundle Subchannel by the Large Scale Vortex Flow)

  • Experimental studies were carried out to confirm the turbulent enhancement of the cooling system of nuclear reactor by large scale vortex generation in nuclear fuel rod bundle. The large scale vortex motions were generated by rearranging the inclination angles of mixing vanes to the coordinate directions. Experimental studies were carried out at Reynolds Number 60,000 with hydraulic condition. Normal variations of mean velocity and turbulent intensity in the rod bundle subchannel were measured by the 2-color LDV measurement system. The turbulence generated by split mixing vanes has small length scales so that they maintain only about 10DH after the spacer grid. On the other hand, the turbulences generated by the large scale vortex continue more and remain up $25D_{H}$ after the spacer grid.

  • Large-scale construction projects require various license and technologies for the manufacturing and handling processes. Also, the whole life cycle business process management determines the success of the project. Then, the efficiency of the business conducted by stakeholders and their possessed technology should be enhanced in order to strengthen their competitive power. For this reason, many experts pointed out to focus on the improvement of the life cycle process and efficient management. Since it is very important to keep up-to-date data and utilize it for work during the long-term project to reflect changes in the large-scale project, the most important part of the project management in project is information change management. Therefore, the objective of this study is applying configuration management(CM) technique in order to managing change data generated for planning in early phase. The result of this research will certainly assist the large-scale project managers in the development of information change management system.

On the other hand, the turbulences generated by the large scale vortex motions continue longer and remain up to $25D_H$ after the spacer grid.

  • 인문학 수업에서 교수와 학생간에 상호작용은 매우 중요하다. 그러나 많은 학생들이 수강하는 대규모 집합 교육의 경우, 수많은 학생들과 교수가 의견을 교환하기는 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 안드로이드 폰의 앱(app)을 개발하여, 대규모 집합 교육에서 발생할 수 있는 상호작용의 제한성을 극복하고자한다. 본 논문에서 개발한 앱은 스마트폰의 정보처리 기능과 무선 통신 기능을 활용하였다. 대규모 집합 교육의 보조 기구로 사용하여 대규모 집합 교육의 교육 효과를 높이는데 목적이 있다.

Hybrid Secondary Voltage Control combined with Large-Scale Wind Farms and Synchronous Generators

  • For stable integration of large-scale wind farms, integration standards (Grid codes) have been proposed by the system operator. In particular, voltage control of large-scale wind farms is gradually becoming important because of the increasing size of individual wind farms. Among the various voltage control methods, Secondary Voltage Control (SVC) is a method that can control the reactive power reserve of a control area uniformly. This paper proposes hybrid SVC when a large-scale wind farm is integrated into the power grid. Using SVC, the burden of a wind turbine converter for generating reactive power can be reduced. To prove the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, a simulation study is carried out for the Jeju system. The proposed strategy can improve the voltage conditions and reactive power reserve with this hybrid SVC.
