랜드스케이프 개념 재유형화에 따른 한국현대건축의 경향분석 (Trend Analysis of Contemporary Korean Architecture according to the recategorization of the notion of Landscape)

  • It has been a recent phenomenon over 1980-1990s that the notion of Landscape has had significant position in contemporary architecture. And the execution range isn't limited to a certain area but is extended to various areas. Under such influence of trend of the times, various architectural attempts in which landscape notion is applied have been tried by the group of architects of our country which are mainly composed of young architects. This study aims to derive the features of landscape appearing in our contemporary architecture by analyzing how Landscape notion is embodied in our Landscape architecture which are claiming the expression of Landscape notion as nature, human beings and view. The purpose of the study is to suggest the limitation and the direction to go through of Korean Landscape architecture through the analysis of such features. Through the recategorization of the Landscape notion, this study reviews the features in detail shown in buildings in Heyily Art Valley which were built strongly based on the expression of the Landscape notion, the art works in Paju City of Publishing Industry and other Landscape buildings. The findings of the review show that Landscape architectural notion has been attempted not only in a certain facilities but also in various genres of architecture. And also it shows that the expression of Landscape notion is performed not by various ways but by only limited ones which are preferred.

  • As a result of imminent recognition on nature from modern world, the need for the combination between architecture and nature has been raised as another topic in architectural arena, and this kind of work is being conducted under the notion of Landscape. As the term 'Landscape' emerges as the key word in contemporary architecture, 'Landscape' begins to transcend the mere meaning of landscape architecture(gardening). The word, Landscape, has gone beyond the meaning of mere landscape, or rural vista one-dimensionally, and, after having introduced the attributes of nature into building activities, has emerged as a notion trying to form 'the architecture as landscape.' Together with these, 'Landscape' is expanding as a notion having various layers. The notion's, 'Landscape', occupying the significant position in contemporary architecture has been a recent phenomenon over 1980-1990s, and its category of practice has not certain limitation, rather it has started simultaneously from various areas. This study, before reviewing the architectural notion of Landscape by studying the Landscape notion and its various embodying methods being shown in contemporary architecture. As a result of examining the features of Landscape notion shown in various directions(ways), being influenced by the four Landscape types presented by Eduard Bru and the currents of the times, we can see that, though the features are somewhat similar, they are classified and explained as different types respectively. So, we are able to recategorize the features into 6 domains in this study.

조경 설계와 회화적 자연관의 문제 (Landscape Design and Pictorialized View on Nature: A Critical Examination)

  • This paper examines the conventional notion of natural beauty and its legacy on the aesthetic experience of nature and landscape architecture in terms of critical perspective. We can take its clue for discussion from the our routine convention of experiencing natural beauty from the picture-like nature. We often equate natural beauty with superficial representations of nature shown in pictures. However, it is no more than a by-stander's nature seen purely through the eyes of the outsider. Problems of the picture-like nature can be summarized as the contemplative and visual-oriented aesthetic experience of landscape, which has had its influence not only on the ways of seeing the natural beauty but also on the ways of making it. The tradition of the picture-like nature has been transplanted into the real world through the practice of landscape architecture. It has been mass-producing superficial beauty of nature, focused on visual form. Landscape architecture in such a form is just a static means of decoration devoid of meaning and content.

한국 도시경관의 새로운 계획 파라다임 -미학적 사고의 가능성 모색 (Exploring a New Planning Paradigm for Urban Landscape in Korea : An Aesthetic Approach)

  • This paper is to explore a new planning paradigm for urban landscape-not a new paradigm for urban landscape planning- in the light of environmental aesthetics. This is an endeavor to construct an alternative to the philosophical absence in the landscape profession. The landscape has been conceived of visual -oriented urban scene, and this notion is one of consequences of subject-object dualism in Western modernity project. In contrast with this convention, the authors consider urban landscape as the aesthetic field in which an experience of urban landscape actually works in human ordinary life and experience. To acquire an aestetic experience in this aesthetic field, we need to replace the doctrine of disinterestedness with engagement and contemplation with participation. This concept of participatory engagement with landscape can be translated in specific and concrete ways into urban landscape planning, replacing the traditional panoramic landscape with engaged landscape. The authors approach the urban landscape from the vantage point of an aesthetics of engagement by developing the four environmental situations : the sailing ship, the circus, the cathedral, and the sunset. They may serve as useful guides in cultivating and beautiful urban landscape to replace the forces of vulgarity and monotony that depress the modern city. 박정희의 조경관 (Park Chung-Hee's Thoughts on Landscape Architecture)

  • The modern landscape architectural profession and education of Korea was established in the early 1970s. The former president Park Chung-Hee was a main axis in this process of establishment. This paper critically examines Park Chung-Hee's thoughts on landscape architecture. It can show us the functional relationship between his thoughts and the beginning of the history of modem landscape architecture in Korea. The close relationship between Park Chung-Hee and Korean landscape architecture can be interpreted as double sides. First, landscape architecture was a matter of great interest for Park Chung-Hee. His involvement of landscape architecture went well beyond that of an amateur. Second, landscape architecture was a strategic instrument for practicing his political policy of economic development and nationalism. There are three remarkable tendencies in his thoughts on landscape architecture. First, he regarded that the main role of landscape architecture was to cover and to decorate damaged sites. Second, he had a contradictory notion of tradition and history. Last, the European pastoral ideal was his criterion for the beauty of landscape. His thoughts on landscape architecture were an amalgamation of these three contradictory ideas, and it has left some controversial inheritances for contemporary landscape architecture.

담론과 자본으로서의 경관 - 도시 경관의 정치·경제적 해석을 위한 이론적 틀 - (Landscape as Materialized Discourse and Capital - Political Economic Interpretation of Urban Landscape -)

  • 본 연구는 신문화지리학, 공간 정치경제학, 조경학에서 논의되어 온 경관론들을 통합적으로 검토하고 재해석함으로써 도시 경관의 생성과 변화를 해석하는 이론적 틀을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 경관 개념은 인간, 특히 부르주아적 주체를 자연과 분리하여 자연에 대한 시각적 전유를 이루고자 하는 의도를 담고 있다. 근대적 경관 개념을 수용한 오늘날의 조경은 경관을 실증 과학 혹은 예술의 대상으로 한정짓는다. 본 연구에서는 '물질화된 담론'과 '물질화된 자본'으로서의 경관이라는 두 가지 관점에서 경관 해석 이론을 제시하였다. 신문화지리학을 중심으로 한 경관의 사회 정치적 해석 논의들을 검토한 결과, 물질화된 담론으로서의 경관은 지배층의 시각을 담은 '보는 방식'이고, 탐험가나 예술가들을 통해 구현되는 제국주의적 시각이며, 남성적 관음적 '응시'이기도 하다. 경관의 경제적 측면에 주목하는 공간 정치경제학자들에 따르면, 경관의 생산은 자본주의 체제에서 잉여 가치 생산을 위한 필연적 국면이며, 소비 문화의 확산과 함께 경관자체가 소비의 대상이 되고 있다. 따라서 경관의 물질성과 이데올로기성을 변증법적으로 보아야 하며, 경관과 사회는 존재론적으로 분리될 수 없다.

싱가포르의 친환경 도시 정책에서 정원 개념의 변화 (Interpreting the Evolving Idea of the 'Garden' in Singapore's Urban Environmental Policy)

  • 본 연구는 정원에 담긴 의미를 중심으로 1960년대 이후 싱가포르 친환경 도시 정책의 시기별 기조와 자연관을 해석한다. 각 시기의 정책 및 입법 자료, 개발 프로젝트, 정부 홍보물과 관련 조직도를 분석해 중심 기조를 세 단계로 분류했다. '정원도시' 슬로건을 중심으로 자연이 잘 통제되고 관리된 도시의 외형을 정원에 투사해 제시하는 초기 단계가 1960년대부터 시작됐다. 1970년대부터 정책의 중심이 개별 녹지와 수자원에서 이를 통합한 체계와 기반 시설로 점차 이동한다. 이런 변화는 '정원 속 도시'라는 새로운 슬로건에 반영되며, 여기서 정원은 도시의 기반이자 하나의 시스템이라는 새로운 지위를 가진다. 이 시기를 거치며 싱가포르 정부는 성격과 규모에 따라 녹지와 수자원을 통합적으로 관리하는 시스템을 갖춘다. 이를 토대로 2000년대부터는 지속가능성과 도시 생태에 집중하는 새로운 정책 기조를 채택하며 '자연 속 도시'로 슬로건을 바꾼다. 약 50년간 정원 개념을 중심으로 정책 지변을 넓힌 싱가포르 정부는 정원을 다리 삼아 도시와 자연의 경계를 허물고 있다.

행정중심복합도시 중앙녹지공간 국제설계공모에 나타난 대형 공원의 설계 전략 (Design Strategies of Large Park in the International Design Competition for Central Open Space in Multi-Functional Administrative City, Korea)

  • 전 세계적으로 대형 공원 설계공모가 급증하고 있지만 이에 대한 체계적 검토와 비판적 연구는 드물다. 대표적인 대형 공원 설계공모였던 행정중심복합도시 중앙녹지공간 국제설계공모는 동시대 대형 공원의 설계 전략을 고찰할 수 있는 의미 있는 소재이다. 본 연구는 공모전의 지침서 및 '대형 공원'과 관련된 기존의 문헌 연구를 통해 분석틀을 마련하고, 이를 바탕으로 열개의 결선작을 분석하였다. 분석틀로 도출된 네 가지 질문은 대형 공원에 대한 접근 방식, 프로세스 설계, 공원의 지속가능성, 도시와의 관계이다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대형 공원의 설계 개념은 주로 대상지 내부의 특성에서 나온다. 특히 공원의 정체성 확보가 대형 공원에서는 중요하다. 둘째, 본 연구의 네 가지 질문을 모두 만족시킨 설계안은 찾기 어려웠으며, 여전히 시각적, 형태중심적, 결과중심적 설계가 많았다. 셋째, 대형 공원의 '지속가능성'은 생태적 측면, 재정적 측면, 프로그램 측면, 커뮤니티 측면 등 다양한 측면을 아우르는 포괄적인 개념이다. 하지만 그 개념이 아직 모호하고, 구체적인 운영 및 관리 프로그램들이 부족하다. 넷째, 대형 공원은 도시와의 관계 맺기에 적극적으로 나선다. 특히, '생산하는 공원'과 '도시의 자급자족성 확보'는 대형 공원에 요청되는 중요한 필요조건이다.

사건의 관점에서 조망한 장소의 의미 (The Meaning of Place in View of Events)

  • The purpose of this study is to re-interpretate the meaning of place from the perspective view of events. In the realm of events, time, process, and evolution are emerging as more important elements for better places rather than space or fixed physical elements. First, this study reviews the phenomenological contribution to the meaning of place by discussing differences between positivism and phenomenology. The phenomenological approach has strengths that can perceive individual experiences and idiosyncraises through a holistic approach and qualitative methods. However, it has weaknesses such as unpredictability, subjectivity and ambiguity. In order to overcome these weaknesses, the notion of singularities(pure events) on the metaphysical plane existing between nature and culture is explored via Deleuzean concepts(Post-structuralism); singularities become events(simulacre) through ´becoming´ and these events have meaning through this process in the particular place. By this process, the subject an feed a sense of place through this meaning. Events unexpectedly create a series of events and have impact in the future. Creating various events in the particular place requires many contextural settings where the embodied perceptions could take place. Describing the potentiality of embodied perceptions demands ´smooth space´ rather than ´striated space´. Smooth space refers to the space where orientations and linkages are in continuous variation. Recent architectural and landscape architectural design projects reveal that the emphasis is placed on the open-ended set of various events unfolding over time rather than the physical settings of the place. For better landscape design, new concepts need to be introduced and implemented. These new concepts should focus on creating a series of events and considering the evolution of the place over time through multi-contextural and rhizomatical synthesis rather than rigid and static master plan of SAD(survey-analysis-design) methodology.

근린주거형태와 오픈스페이스 이용행태에 관한 연구 -광주직할시 7 개 A.P.T단지를 중심으로- (A Study on Neighbourhood Physical Form and Use of Public Open Space -Case Study : Seven Apartment Sites in Kwang Ju direct city-)

  • In the study I analyzed the relationship between the characteristics of the user's residential environment and his or her use of openspace. I find out that there are little correlationship between building form and use factors. Also, there are no relationship between persons per room and use factors. Only the physical distance and the location of the building site is correlated with the use factor. In testing the hypotheses, I discovered very little to support the "physical deterministic" notion. I generally was not able to explain the behavior of open space users on the basis of the physical parameters selected to describe the user's residential environment. This, I believe, indicates that there probably are many other variables that play a more important role than those pertaining to the density and form of the residential environment. It is necessary to find out more variables affecting the use of openspace in the neighbourhoods, such as the charecteristics of user group. Also, it is necessary to apply the study to the other sites or the other cities in Korea to compare with the results.
