The Goal of Mathematics School-Based Professional Development Program for Elementary School Teachers

  • The goal of this study was to examine the three components of a laboratory class cycle that empowered teachers to change their teaching practices. Six teachers and their administrator in an elementary school in the southeastern United States participated in the study. All the teachers were interviewed, and their mathematics lessons were observed at the end of each cycle of laboratory classes. The study revealed how planning, observing, and critiquing mathematics lessons as a team assisted the teachers' learning and teaching. We identified opportunities for the teachers to experiment with different teaching approaches, and we found that support from the team and from the school were key factors for the laboratory class cycle to function effectively.

충청지역의 닭으로부터 분리된 Proteus mirabilis 균주에 존재하는 Class 1 Integron의 유전형 분석 (Characterizations of Class 1 Integrons in Proteus mirabilis Isolated from Chickens at Chungcheong Province)

  • 최근까지도 세균 감염증 치료 또는 성장촉진을 목적으로 가축에게 광범위하게 항균제를 사용해 왔으며, 이는 사람에게 보편적으로 사용되는 항균제들에 대한 내성세균의 출현 및 확산을 유도했다. 이렇게 출현한 다제 내성세균은 사람에게 음식을 통해 전달되고 내성유전자를 확산시킬 수 있어 더 큰 문제가 되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 충청지역에서 사육된 닭으로부터 분리된 Proteus mirabilis 균주를 대상으로 integron의 빈도 및 integron의 존재에 따른 항균제 내성 비율의 변화를 조사하였다. 총 26 균주의 Proteus mirabilis가 분리되었으며 이 균주를 대상으로 항균제 감수성 검사와 PCR 및 DNA 염기서열분석을 통한 integron의 유전자 카세트 분석이 이루어졌다. 또한 extragenic palindromic sequence-based PCR (REP-PCR) 방법을 이용하여 P. mirabilis 균주들의 clonality를 확인하였다. P. mirabilis 26균주 중 14 균주(53.8%)가 class 1 integrons을 가지고 있음이 확인되었다. Class 1 integron 내에는 aminoglycoside (aacC, aadA), trimethoprim (dfrA), lincosamide (linF), 및 erythromycin (ereA) 등의 내성을 유도하는 유전자 카세트가 위치해 있었다. 이들 class 1 integron을 포함하는 균주는 integron을 포함하지 않는 균주보다 aminoglycoside 및 trimethoprim 계열 항균제에 대해 높은 내성율을 보였다. 본 연구에서 class 1 integron은 P. mirabilis 균주들 사이에 광범위하게 확산되어 있으며 다양한 항균제에 내성을 나타내는데 중요한 역할을 하고 있음이 확인되었다. 따라서 축사환경에 다제 내성세균의 출현 및 증가에 중요한 역할을 하는 integron의 확산에 대한 지속적인 감시가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

치과기공과 교수방법의 효율화를 위한 방안 (The Plan for the Effective Method of Dental Laboratory Technology)

  • This treatise suggests the effective method for the dental laboratory technology teaching plan. It will present concrete practical steps for and audio-visual dental laboratory technology education approach. It will also help students to understand the dental laboratory theory and practice learned in the class and make use of it greatly in the field work. As follows: 1. Instructor should teach interestingly basic dental laboratory technology theory with illustrations and figures on the teaching method. 2. In practical traing class, instructor should teach every step, using audio-visual materials such as slides and video tapes/Instructor and his assist and should show an example to the students. 3. Instructor should make a standard and train the studtnes repeatedly until they come up to it. 4. Students should be skilled in every case through field work during their spare time and vacation. 5. Instructor should also teach job moral and manner to the students so that they can be adapted themselves to the social activities and be successful dental laboratory technician after graduation.

Operational Characteristics of High-Performance kW class Alkaline Electrolyzer Stack for Green Hydrogen Production

  • Polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyzer or alkaline electrolyzer is required to produce green hydrogen using renewable energy such as wind and/or solar power. PEM and alkaline electrolyzer differ in many ways, instantly basic materials, system configuration, and operation characteristics are different. Building an optimal water hydrolysis system by closely grasping the characteristics of each type of electrolyzer is of great help in building a safe hydrogen ecosystem as well as the efficiency of green hydrogen production. In this study, the basic operation characteristics of a kW class alkaline water electrolyzer we developed, and water electrolysis efficiency are described. Finally, a brief overview of the characteristics of PEM and alkaline electrolyzer for large-capacity green hydrogen production system will be outlined.

Statistical Investigation on Class Mutation Operators

  • Although mutation testing is potentially powerful, it is a computationally expensive testing method. To investigate how we can reduce the cost of object-oriented mutation testing, we have conducted empirical studies on class mutation operators. We applied class mutation operators to 866 classes contained in six open-source programs. An analysis of the number and the distribution of class mutants generated and preliminary data on the effectiveness of some operators are provided. Our study shows that the overall number of class mutants is smaller than for traditional mutants, which offers the possibility that class mutation can be made practically affordable.

초등학교 과학실에서 발생하는 화학폐기물에 대한 실태 (A Status on the Chemical Waste in Elementary School Science Laboratory)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine teachers’ awareness of chemical waste produced in elementary school laboratory experimentation and how this awareness relates to collection and disposal of chemical waste. More specifically, the study looked at the correlation between the handling of chemical waste and factors such as years of teachers’ educational career, class size and amount of waste produced. The target population were 250 elementary school teachers in Gyeongnam area and 237 subjects were responded. Among the 237 responses, 37 cases that did not complete the questionnaire were eliminated. Therefore, 200 responses were analyzed in this study. The survey questionnaire consisted of 15 questions. The categories of the questionnaire were their skills of management and treatment of the chemical waste. The data collected were analyzed by SPSS 10.0, and the relations among variables such as class sizes and years of teaching experience were also analyzed by $x^2-test.$ The results in this study were as follows: First, there were no significant differences between the years of teaching and class sizes in the training experience of chemical waste disposal. Second, there was a significant difference between the science laboratory size and class sizes in the laboratory actual condition. In addition, in the relations between the number of times of experimentation and the years of teaching experience, there was a significant difference. Third, in terms of the discharge amount of chemical waste, there was a significant difference between the years of teaching and class sizes. Fourth, in the simple chemistry waste disposal process in the science laboratory, there also was a significant difference between the kinds of experimental equipments that used in the experimentation and the years of teaching. Based on this study, it was found that great amount of the chemical wastes produced in the science laboratory dumped into the drain and the treatment process of chemical waste was also inattentive. Even the importance of environmental education is emphasized in the elementary education, the basic problems occurred in the science laboratory is disregarded. Therefore, not only students but teachers have to pay attention to the disposal process of chemical waste in the laboratory in order to prevent environment pollution. Furthermore, the efforts of preventing environment pollution are needed such as opening the teacher training course about environment education, minimal use of chemicals, treatment of chemical waste, and so forth.

  • A special class of exponential dispersion models is the class of Tweedie distributions. This class is very significant in statistical modeling as it includes a number of familiar distributions such as Gaussian, Gamma and compound Poisson. A Tweedie distribution has a power parameter p, a mean m and a dispersion parameter 𝜙. The value of the power parameter lies in identifying the corresponding distribution of the Tweedie family. The basic objective of this research work resides in investigating the existence of the implicit estimator of the power parameter of the Tweedie distribution. A necessary and sufficient condition on the mean parameter m, suggesting that the implicit estimator of the power parameter p exists, was established and we provided some asymptotic properties of this estimator.

Priming of Autoreactive $CD8^+T$ Cells Is Inhibited by Immunogenic Peptides Which Are Competitive for Major Histocompatibility Complex Class I Binding

  • In the present study, we investigated if priming of autoreactive $CD8^+T$ cells would be inhibited by competitive peptides for major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I binding. We used a mouse model of vitiligo which is induced by immunization of $K^b$-binding tyrosinase-related protein 2 (TRP2)-180 peptide. Competitive peptides for $K^b$ binding inhibited IFN-${\gamma}$production and proliferation of TRP2-180-specific $CD8^+T$ cells upon ex vivo peptide restimulation, while other MHC class I-binding peptides did not. In mice, the capability of inhibition was influenced by T-cell immunogenicity of the competitive peptides. The competitive peptide with a high T-cell immunogenicity efficiently inhibited priming of TRP2-180-specific $CD8^+T$ cells in vivo, whereas the competitive peptide with a low T-cell immunogenicity did not. Taken together, the inhibition of priming of autoreactive $CD8^+T$ cells depends on not only competition of peptides for MHC class I binding but also competitive peptide-specific $CD8^+T$ cells, suggesting that clonal expansion of autoreactive T cells would be affected by expansion of competitive peptide-specific T cells. This result provides new insights into the development of competitive peptides-based therapy for the treatment of autoimmune diseases.

Relationship between Poor Immunogenicity of HLA-A2-Restricted Peptide Epitopes and Paucity of Naïve $CD8^+$ T-Cell Precursors in HLA-A2-Transgenic Mice

  • We examined the immunogenicity of H-2 class I-restricted and HLA-A2-restricted epitopes through peptide immunization of HLA-A2-transgenic mice that also express mouse H-2 class I molecules. All four of the tested epitopes restricted by H-2 class I robustly elicited T-cell responses, but four of seven epitopes restricted by HLA-A2 did not induce T-cell responses, showing that HLA-A2-restricted peptide epitopes tend to be poorly immunogenic in HLA-A2-transgenic mice. This finding was confirmed in HLA-A2-transgenic mice infected with a recombinant vaccinia virus expressing hepatitis C virus proteins. We examined the precursor frequency of epitope-specific naïve $CD8^+$ T cells in HLA-A2-transgenic and conventional C57BL/6 mice and found that the poor immunogenicity of HLA-A2-restricted peptide epitopes is related to the paucity of naïve $CD8^+$ T-cell precursors in HLA-A2-transgenic mice. These results provide direction for the improvement of mouse models to study epitope repertoires and the immunodominance of human T-cell responses.
