  • This paper presents a voice conversion technique that modifies the utterance of a source speaker as if it were spoken by a target speaker. Feature parameter conversion methods to perform the transformation of vocal tract and prosodic characteristics between the source and target speakers are described. The transformation of vocal tract characteristics is achieved by modifying the LPC cepstral coefficients using Linear Multivariate Regression (LMR). Prosodic transformation is done by changing the average pitch period between speakers, and it is applied to the residual signal using the LP-PSOLA scheme. Experimental results show that transformed speech by LMR and LP-PSOLA synthesis method contains much characteristics of the target speaker.

  • Speech signal has the features of speakers. In this paper, we propose the speaker identification system which use the incremental learning based on neural network. Recorded speech signal through the Mic is passed the end detection and is divided voiced signal and unvoiced signal. The extracted 12 order cpestrum are used the input data for neural network. Incremental learning is the learning algorithm that the learned weights are remembered and only the new weights, that is created as adding new speaker, are trained. The architecture of neural network is extended with the number of speakers. So, this system can learn without the restricted number of speakers.

  • This study is concerned with a method which helps human to generate EMG signals accurately and consistently to make reliable design samples of function discriminator for prosthetic arm control. We intend to ensure a signal accuracy and consistency by training human as a signal generation source. For the purposes, we construct a human training system using a digital computer, which generates visual graphes to compare real target motion trajectory with the desired one, to observe EMG signals and their features. To evaluate the effect which affects a feature variance and a feature separability between motion classes by the human training system, we select 4 features such as integral absolute value, zero crossing counts, AR coefficients and LPC cepstrum coefficients. We perform a experiment four times during 2 months. The experimental results show that the hu- man training system is effective for accurate and consistent EMG signal generation and reduction of a feature variance, but is not correlated for a feature separability, The cepstrum coefficient is the most preferable among the used features for reduction of variance, class separability and robustness to a time varing property of EMG signals.

  • In this paper, we proposed the study on speaker-independent isolated word recognition for DDD area-name using vector quantization and chose total 146 DDD area-name to recognize words for application of dialing system. We made the codebook using 12th LPC cepstrum coefficients and used the minsum and the minimax method to find the centroid and we applied 3 splitting rule to a codebook generation. The single section and the multi section with time information were used to generate the codebooks and the over-lapped section codebook was used, too. From the experiment result, we proved that the minsum method was better than the minimax method and the evaluation of the system yielded an accuracy of about 90 percents In case of speaker-independent.

  • In this paper, a Bayesian classifier based on PCA (principle component analysis) is proposed to classify underwater transient signals using $16^{th}$ order LPC (linear predictive coding) coefficients as feature vector. The proposed classifier is composed of two steps. The mechanical signals were separated from biological signals in the first step, and then each type of the mechanical signal was recognized in the second step. Three biological transient signals and two mechanical signals were used to conduct experiments. The classification ratios for the feature vectors of biological signals and mechanical signals were 94.75% and 97.23%, respectively, when all 16 order LPC vector were used. In order to determine the effect of underwater noise on the classification performance, underwater ambient noise was added to the test signals and the classification ratio according to SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) was compared by changing dimension of feature vector using PCA. The classification ratios of the biological and mechanical signals under ocean ambient noise at 10dB SNR, were 0.51% and 100% respectively. However, the ratios were changed to 53.07% and 83.14% when the dimension of feature vector was converted to three by applying PCA. For correct, classification, it is required SNR over 10 dB for three dimension feature vector and over 30dB SNR for seven dimension feature vector under ocean ambient noise environment.

  • We propose classification algorithms for human and dog movement. The proposed algorithms use micro-Doppler signals obtained from humans and dogs moving in four different directions. A two-stage classifier based on a support vector machine (SVM) is proposed, which uses a radial-based function (RBF) kernel and $16^{th}$-order linear predictive code (LPC) coefficients as feature vectors. With the proposed algorithms, we obtain the best classification results when a first-level SVM classifies the type of movement, and then, a second-level SVM classifies the moving object. We obtain the correct classification probability 95.54% of the time, on average. Next, to deal with the difficult classification problem of human and dog running, we propose a two-layer convolutional neural network (CNN). The proposed CNN is composed of six ($6{\times}6$) convolution filters at the first and second layers, with ($5{\times}5$) max pooling for the first layer and ($2{\times}2$) max pooling for the second layer. The proposed CNN-based classifier adopts an auto regressive spectrogram as the feature image obtained from the $16^{th}$-order LPC vectors for a specific time duration. The proposed CNN exhibits 100% classification accuracy and outperforms the SVM-based classifier. These results show that the proposed classifiers can be used for human and dog classification systems and also for classification problems using data obtained from an ultra-wideband (UWB) sensor.

  • This paper proposes a speech recognition based on HMM(Hidden Markov Model) using FSVQ(First Section Vector Quantization) and fuzzy concept. In the proposed paper, we generate codebook of First Section, and then obtain multi-observation sequences by order of large propabilistic values based on fuzzy rule from the codebook of the first section. Thereafter, this observation sequences of first section from codebooks is trained and in case of recognition, a word that has the most highest probability of first section is selected as a recognized word by same concept. Train station names are selected as the target recognition vocabulary and LPC cepstrum coefficients are used as the feature parameters. Besides the speech recognition experiments of proposed method, we experiment the other methods under same conditions and data. Through the experiment results, it is proved that the proposed method based on HMM using FSVQ and fuzzy concept is superior to tile others in recognition rate.

  • In this paper, a method synthesizing speech signal using the 40 kHz ultrasonic signals reflected from the articulatory muscles was introduced and performance was evaluated. When the ultrasound signals are radiated to articulating face, the Doppler effects caused by movements of lips, jaw, and chin observed. The signals that have different frequencies from that of the transmitted signals are found in the received signals. These ADS (Acoustic-Doppler Signals) were used for estimating of the speech parameters in this study. Prior to synthesizing speech signal, a quantitative correlation analysis between ADS and speech signals was carried out on each frequency bin. According to the results, the feasibility of the ADS-based speech synthesis was validated. ADS-to-speech transformation was achieved by the joint Gaussian mixture model-based conversion rules. The experimental results from the 5 subjects showed that filter bank energy and LPC (Linear Predictive Coefficient) cepstrum coefficients are the optimal features for ADS, and speech, respectively. In the subjective evaluation where synthesized speech signals were obtained using the excitation sources extracted from original speech signals, it was confirmed that the ADS-to-speech conversion method yielded 72.2 % average recognition rates.

  • The standard of evaluating function of speech coder for mobile telecommunication can be shown in channel capacity, noise immunity, encryption, complexity and encoding delay largely. This study is an algorithm to reduce complexity applying to CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) mobile telecommunication system, which has a benefit of keeping the existing advantage of telecommunication quality and low transmission rate. This paper has an objective to reduce the computing complexity by controlling the frequency band nonuniform during the changing process of LSP(Line Spectrum Pairs) parameters from LPC(Line Predictive Coding) coefficients used for EVRC(Enhanced Variable-Rate Coder, IS-127) speech coders. Its experimental result showed that when comparing the speech coder applied by the proposed algorithm with the existing EVRC speech coder, it's decreased by 45% at average. Also, the values of LSP parameters, Synthetic speech signal and Spectrogram test result were obtained same as the existing method.
