Kochujangs(fermented hot pepper-soybean paste) were prepared either using traditional meju (koji for kochujang) or controlled meju fermented by pure isolates (P-1, P-2), which were screened from traditional meju collected at Sunchang area. The isolates were characterized for their superiority on amylase and protease activities, and overall flavor of the culture on cooked soybean. Bacterial cell counts were not different in all treatments of kochujang during fermentation. The mold counts of each treatment dropped to undetectable level after 40 and 60 days of fermentation, respectively. Heat treatment($60^{\circ}C$, 15 min) before fermentation stopped gas formation and had no effect on bacterial cell count, but the growth of yeast was depressed. Total accumulative volume of gas produced during kochujang fermentation was depended on load of yeast in kochujang and the kochujang using P-2 koji produced least amount of gas among all treatments. The amylase and protease activities of kochujang were not significantly different among traditional and controlled kochujangs.
In this paper, we investigated several buffer management schemes for the design of shared-memory type ATM switches, which can enhance the utilization of switch resources and can support quality-of-service (QoS) functionalities. Our results show that dynamic threshold (DT) scheme demonstrate a moderate degree of robustness close to pushout(PO) scheme, which is known to be impractical in the perspective of hardware implementation, under various traffic conditions such as traffic loads, burstyness of incoming traffic, and load non-uniformity across output ports. Next, we considered buffer management strategies to support QoS functions, which utilize parameter values obtained via connection admission control (CAC) procedures to set tile threshold values. Through simulations, we showed that the buffer management schemes adopted behave well in the sense that they can protect regulated traffic from unregulated cell traffic in allocating buffer space. In particular, it was observed that dynamic partitioning is superior in terms of QoS support than virtual partitioning.
Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) play an important role in impairing the function of T cells. We characterized MDSCs in two chronic hepatitis C (CHC) cohorts: a cross-sectional group that included 61 treatment-naive patients with CHC, 14 rapid virologic response (RVR) cases and 22 early virologic response (EVR) cases; and a longitudinal group of 13 cases of RVR and 10 cases of EVR after pegylated-interferon-${\alpha}$/ribavirin treatment for genotype 1b HCV infection. Liver samples from 32 CHC patients and six healthy controls were subjected to immunohistochemical analysis. MDSCs frequency in treatment-naive CHC was significantly higher than in RVR, EVR, or healthy subjects and was positively correlated with HCV RNA. Patients infected with HCV genotype 2a had a significantly higher frequency of MDSCs than those infected with genotype 1b. Decreased T cell receptor (TCR) ${\zeta}$ expression on $CD8^+$ T cells was significantly associated with an increased frequency of MDSCs in treatment-naive CHC patients and was restored by L-arginine treatment in vitro. Increased numbers of liver arginase-$1^+$ cells were closely associated with the histological activity index in CHC. The TCR ${\zeta}$ chain was significantly downregulated on hepatic $CD8^+$ T cells in CHC. During antiviral follow up, MDSCs frequency in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was directly correlated with the HCV RNA load in the plasma and inversely correlated with TCR ${\zeta}$ chain expression in $CD8^+$ T cells in both RVR and EVR cases. Notably, the RVR group had a higher frequency of MDSCs at baseline than the EVR group. Collectively, this study provides evidence that MDSCs might be associated with HCV persistence and downregulation of CD8 ${\zeta}$ chain expression.

This study was focused on the design and the performance analysis of integral Hot BoP for recovering waste heat from high-temperature exhaust gas in 2 kW class solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). The hot BoP system was consisted of a catalytic combustor, air preheater and steam generator for burning the stack exhaust gas and for recovering waste heat. In the design of the system, the maximum possible heat transfer was calculated to analyze the heat distribution processes. The detail design of the air preheater and steam generator was carried out by solving the heat transfer equation. The hot BoP was fabricated as a single unit to reduce the heat loss. The simulated stack exhaust gas which considered SOFC operation was used to the performance test. In the hot BoP performance test, the heat transfer rate and system efficiency were measured under various heat loads. The combustibility with the equivalent ratio was analyzed by measuring CO emission of the exhaust gas. As a result, the thermal efficiency of the hot BoP was about 60% based on the standard heat load of 2 kW SOFC. CO emission of the exhaust gas rapidly decreased at an equivalent ratio of 0.25 or more.

In this paper, a micro-scale photovoltaic(PV) energy harvesting system is proposed where an MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) control is implemented using an energy distribution technique. Miniature PV cells output very low energy and low voltages, and thus, they cannot be used to directly power the MPPT controller. In the proposed system, a start-up circuit boosts an internal Vcp, and the boosted Vcp is used to operate the internal MPPT control block. When the Vcp reaches a predefined value, a detector circuit makes the start-up block turn off and provide a power converter with the energy from the PV cell. When the Vcp decreases such that the MPPT controller can not be operated, the energy transferred to the power converter is blocked and the start-up circuit is reactivated. In this way, the MPPT function is achieved by alternately operating the start-up circuit and the power converter using the energy distribution technique, and the harvested energy is transferred to a load through a PMU(Power Management Unit). The proposed circuit is designed in a 0.35um CMOS process and its functionality has been verified through extensive simulations. The designed chip area including pads is $1430um{\times}1110um$.
Coarse granular material is used as important fill material in most of large embankments such as railway, road, dam and so on. Therefore, the accurate design parameters of the coarse granular material are necessarily required in design and construction. The behavior of the coarse granular material was not well understood because of the lack of large testing equipment capable of coarse granular material. A large triaxial testing system was developed in this research, capable of large specimens of 500 mm, 300 mm and 150 mm in diameter. In the new large triaxial testing system, the load cell is installed inside the triaxial cell and axial displacement is measured locally on a specimen in order to improve control and measurement in small strain level. Urethane specimens of 300 mm and 50 mm in diameter were prepared. The large triaxial tests were performed on the 300 mm diameter urethane specimens while RC/TS and impact echo tests on the 50 mm diameter urethane specimens to verify this testing system. In this verification test results, we could ascertain the reasonable test results of the KRRI large triaxial testing system.

Using InGaP/GaAs HBT power cells with a 2.0${\times}$20$\mu\textrm{m}$$^2$ emitter area of a unit HBT, a two stage MMIC power amplifier has been developed for IMT-2000 handsets. An active-bias circuit has been used for temperature compensation and reduction in the idling current. Fitting on measured S-parameters of the HBT cells, circuit elements of HBT's nonlinear equivalent model have been extracted. The matching circuits have been designed basically with the extracted model. A two stage HBT MMIC power amplifier fabricated using ETRI's HBT process. The power amplifier produces an 1-㏈ compressed output power(P$\_$l-㏈/) of 28.4 ㏈m with 31% power added efficiency(PAE) and 23-㏈ power gain at 1.95 GHz in on-wafer measurement. Also, the power amplifier produces a 26 ㏈m output power, 28% PAE and a 22.3-㏈ power gain with a -40 ㏈c ACPR at a 3.84 ㎒ off-center frequency in COB measurement.quency in COB measurement.

Na and Ca effects on contracture were studied in order to estimate Na/Ca exchange ratio in the isolated atrial muscle of the rabbit. All experiments were performed in tris-buffered Tyrode solution which was being aerated with 100% $O_2\;and\;kept\;at\;37^{circ}C$. To load intracellular $Na^+,\;10{-6}M$ ouabain or K-free solution were used. Contractures were induced by brier exposure of atrial muscle to Tyrode solution containing various concentrations of Ca or of Na. The results obtained were as follows: 1 ) Increasing the extracellular Ca concentration, the amplitude of contracture also increased and was maximum at 8 mM Ca-Tyrode solution. 2) The relationship between extracellular Ca concentrations and relative amplitude of the contractures showed hyperbolic pattern. By using Hill plot, the line has the slope of 1 12 which means the number of Ca binding sites of the carrier in the cell membrane. 3) The amplitude of the contracture was maximum in 0 mM Na-Tyrode solution and decreased in dose dependent manner when the Na concentration increased. 4) When the relationship between extracellular Na concentrations and the amplitude of contractures was expressed as dose-response curve, the curve showed sigmoid pattern. The line with the slope of 2.82 was obtained by using Hill plot. 5) From above all the results, it is suggested that exchange ratio of Na and Ca via Na/ca exchange system in the atrial muscle of rabbit could be 3:1 approximately.
This study was to examine the drying characteristics of barley and the effect of moisture content of barley on milling performance. A barley variety, Jogang, having 35.0% of initial moisture content was used for this experiment. Thermo-hydrostatic dryer which consists of blower, condensor, heater, humidifier, drying chamber and control box, etc., was used for the drying experiment. The change in the weight of a barley sample was continuously measured by means of the ring type load cell installed inside the drying chamber. Milling test runs the samples having the predetermined moisture content were taken from each drying test run. A laboratory type barley miller was used for the milling test. The results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. The drying constants (k) applied for the thin layer drying model, (M-Me)/(Mo-Me) = $Ae^{-kt}$ were 0.155, 0.259 and 0.548, respectively, at the three levels of drying temperatures, $40^{\circ}C$, $50^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$. The drying constants complied with the Arrhenius Equation, K = Ko exp (-C/T), were determined as $Ko=1.901455{\times}10^8$ and C = 6563. 2. The laboratory milling test indicated that the highest milled and head barley recovery was resulted from the sample which was dryed at $40^{\circ}C$. In general, the increase in the drying temperature from $40^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$ indicated a negative effect on milling yields. 3. Also, the sample having 15% M.C. presented the highest milled and head barley recovery among the five moisture content levels (12, 15, 18,21 and 24%).

In this paper, we design an 8-bit eSuse OTP (one-time programmable) memory based on a $0.35{\mu}m$ BCD process using differential paired eFuse cells which can sense BL data without a reference voltage and also have smaller sensing resistances of programmed eFuse links. The channel widths of a program transistor of the differential eFuse OTP cell are splitted into $45{\mu}m$ and $120{\mu}m$. Also, we implement a sensing margin test circuit with variable pull-up loads in consideration of variations of the programmed eFuse resistances. It is confirmed by measurement results that the designed 8-bit eFuse OTP memory IP gives a better yield when the channel width is $120{\mu}m$.
