  • The purpose of this study was to prepare low methoxyl pectins (LMPs) by pectinesterase (PE) using waste tangerine peels and to compare the chemical, physical and gelling properties of the prepared pectins with the commercial LMP. The LMPs were prepared by treating albedo with 0.25M $Na_2CO_3$ to activate the PE. PE was then inactivated by heating. The sample was centrifuged and the supernatant was collected. LMP was obtained as precipitate by adding alcohol to the collected supernatant. The amounts of extractible pectins in albedo were 12.71~12.98% on a dry weight basis. Methoxyl contents of LMPs prepared by treating albedo with PE at pH 7.5 for 10min, at pH 8.5 for 10min, 20min and 30min were 5.12%, 4.27%, 3.08%, 1.85% respectively, demonstrating that the methoxyl contents of the preparations decreased as the degree of treatment albedo with PE increased. The acetyl contents of the preparations ranged from 0.09% to 0.12%, the values of which do not interfere with gel formation. The anhydrouronic acid contents of the prepared pectins were in the range of 94.2%~94.8%. The values of viscosity and molecular weights of the prepared LMPs tent to decrease as the degree of PE action on albedo increased. The textural value of the prepared LMP gels determined by Consistometer, Ridgelimeter and Instron denonstrated that the excess treatment of albedo with PE significantly impaired the gelling properties of the preparations.

  • A ' Virtual Private Network (YPN) over Internet' has the benefits of being cost-effective and flexible. However, given the increasing demands for high bandwidth Internet and for reliable services in a 'VPN over Intemet,' an IP/GMPLS over DWDM backbone network is regarded as a very favorable approach for the future 'Optical VPN (OVPN)' due to the benefits of transparency and high data rate. Nevertheless, OVPN still has survivability issues such that a temporary fault can lose a large amount of data in seconds, moreover unauthorized physical attack can also be made on purpose to eavesdrop the network through physical components. Also, logical attacks can manipulate or stop the operation of GMPLS control messages and menace the network survivability of OVPN. Thus, network survivability in OVPN (i.e. fault/attack tolerant recovery mechanism considering physical structure and optical components, and secured transmission of GMPLS control messages) is rising as a critical issue. In this Paper, we propose a new path establishment scheme under shared risk link group (SRLG) constraint for physical network survivability. And we also suggest a new logical survivability management mechanism by extending resource reservation protocol-traffic engineering extension (RSVP-TE+) and link management protocol (LMP). Finally, according to the results of our simulation, the proposed algorithms are revealed more effective in the view point of survivability.

  • It is expected that there will be delay of scheduled transmission network reinforcement and huge investment of renewable energy resources in Korea. As transmission capacity expansion delayed, supplying power to Seoul metropolitan area will not be increased as scheduled. In addition, uncertain renewable energy out of Seoul metropolitan area can cause transmission congestion in the future power system. These two combining effects will make the difference in locational marginal prices(LMP) and congestion costs increase. In that sense, this paper will analyze how much the congestion costs for Korea power system are incurred in the future power system. Most of previous approaches to analyze the congestion costs for electric power system are based on the optimal power flow model which cannot deal with hourly variation of power system. However, this study attempted to perform the analysis using market simulation model(M-Core) which has the capability of analyzing the hourly power generation cost and power transmission capacity, and market prices by region. As a result, we can estimate the congestion costs of future power system considering the uncertainty of renewable energy and transmission capacity.

  • Fusarium wilt of banana caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense is widespread in Indonesia. However, the distribution of tropical race 4 strains has not been well studied. Thirty nine isolates of F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense were collected from Java and 7 isolates were from Sumatera, Bangka, and Kalimantan. All isolates produced volatile odor when grown on steamed rice. These isolates were further tested for their vegetative compatibility with nitM testers of 20 reported vegetative compatibility groups representing strains that belong to race 1, 2, and 4. Three isolates formed heterokaryons with nitM testers belong to race 1, 11 isolates with race 4, and the rest did not form heterokaryons with all nitM testers used. F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense tropical race 4 specific primer pair was used to amplify a 1400 bp fragment of tropical race 4 DNA. Seven isolates (Bnt2, Mln1, Srg1, Bgl3, Bgl6, Lmp1, and Kjg1) produced the 1400 bp amplification product were therefore tropical race 4.

  • LMP based congestion management method is suggested as an effective tool, because network congestion can be handled by energy price. It is now being widely used in the North American Electricity Markets. Among them, FGR(Flow-gate rights) is considered to be appropriate for our system, as power flow through the congested line is unidirectional and congestion occurs in the known place. In the CBP market, hedging through transmission right is not necessary even though location pricing system is adopted, because there are no risks in the energy price. Rut, transmission rights should be adopted in the advanced market. Key issue when implementing FGR is how to decide transmission right issuance quantify. This paper deals with a method to decide transmission right issuance quantity by using power. Transfer Distribution Factor(PTDF).

  • This paper deals with the variability of short term creep rupture time based on previous creep rupture tests and the statistical methodology of the creep life prediction. The results of creep tests performed using constant uniaxial stresses at 600, 650, and $700^{\circ}C$ elevated temperatures were used for a statistical analysis of the inter-specimen variability of the short term creep rupture time. Even under carefully controlled identical testing conditions, the observed short-term creep rupture time showed obvious inter-specimen variability. The statistical aspect of the short term creep rupture time was analyzed using a Weibull statistical analysis. The effect of creep stress on the variability of the creep rupture time was decreased with an increase in the stress level. The effect of the temperature on the variability also decreased with increasing temperature. A long term creep life prediction method that considers this statistical variability is presented. The presented method is in good agreement with the Lason-Miller Parameter (LMP) life prediction method.

  • Small punch-creep(SP-Creep) test technique has been applied for evaluating the creep characteristics for high temperature materials. However, in order to evaluate the damage and predict the remaining life, it is necessary to establish a quantitative correlation between SP-Creep and uniaxial-creep test results. This paper presents analytical and experimental results of useful correlation between SP-Creep and uniaxial-creep properties for 9Cr1MoVNb steel at $600{\sim}650^{\circ}C$ in terms of stress(load) and activation energy during creep deformation. Especially, the activation energy obtained from SP-Creep test is linearly related to that from uniaxial-creep test at $650^{\circ}C$ as follows: $Q_{sp-p}{\fallingdotseq}1.37\;Q_{TEN},\;Q_{sp-{\sigma}}{\fallingdotseq}1.53\;Q_{TEN}$.

  • In this paper, a model is introduced named double relation chains (DRC) based on ordered sets. It is proved that using DRC and special relationships among the members of an alphabet, vectors of this alphabet can be stored and searched in a tree. This idea is general; however, one special application of DRC is the longest prefix matching (LPM) problem in an IP network. Applying the idea of DRC to the LPM problem makes the prefixes comparable like numbers using a pair of w-bit vectors to store at least one and at most w prefixes, where w is the IP address length. This leads to good compression performance. Based on this, two recently introduced structures called coded prefix trees and scalar prefix trees are shown to be specific applications of DRC. They are implementable on balanced trees which cause the node access complexity for prefix search and update procedures to be O(log n) where n is the number of prefixes. As another advantage, the number of node accesses for these procedures does not depend on w. Additionally, they need fewer number of node accesses compared to recent range-based solutions. These structures are applicable on both IPv4 and IPv6, and can be implemented in software or hardware.

  • A switch in congestion management nile in an electricity market may have positive or negative impact on the surplus of a market participant. As a number of wholesale electricity markets around the world either have already adopted or plan to implement Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP) for energy and congestion management, it is necessary to study the economic impact of a change in congestion management in the Korean electricity market. However, the impact of congestion management on consumer costs and generator surplus has not been studied for the electricity market in Korea. This paper examines how a change in congestion management affects consumer costs and generator surplus in the Korean electricity market.

  • Transmission congestion is one of the key factors to local market power in competitive electricity markets. Financial transmission rights provide the financia] protection to their holders by paying back the congestion rent. A variety researches have shown that the existing trading mechanisms on transmission right can exacerbate market power. This paper proposes an alternative methodology in mitigating the local market power using the Contingent Transmission Rights on the locational marginal pricing scheme. The proposed methodology was demonstrated with the Optimal Power Flow.
