The crystallization characteristics of metallocene linear low density polyethylene (m-LLDPE)/linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) blends were investigated. The effect of blending on the induction time for crystallization, spherulites growth rate, and maximum size of spherulites was mainly considered in this study. The formation of separate crystal which is well known crystallization behavior in LLDPE/LDPE blend was not found in m-LLDPE/LLDPE blends. The blending m-LLDPE to LLDPE caused the dramatic decrease in the induction time of m-LLDPE/LLDPE blends but it seems that the blend composition shows less effect on the induction time. Lower branching number in m-LLDPE resulted in the increasing of spherulites growth rate and the maximum size of spherulites is depend upon both the induction time and spherulites growth rate of LLDPE component affected by m-LLDPE.
Thermal properties of PP and LLDPE dusts from chemical plant and their risks of coexisting with oxidizer were investigated by a pressure vessel. The thermal decomposition of PP and LLDPE dusts with temperature using DSC and the weight loss with temperature using TGA were also investigated to find the thermal hazard of PP and LLDPE dusts. Using the pressure vessel which can estimate ignition and explosion of PP and LLDPE dusts coexisting with oxidizer, a series of bursting of a rupture disc, experiments has been conducted by varying the orifice diameters the weight ratio of the sample coexisting with oxidizers and the species of oxidizer. And fire gases was measured by gas analyser ($ECOM-A^+$). According to the results of the thermal analysis of PP and LLDPE dusts, the decomposition temperature range of PP and LLDPE dusts was 200 to 350 and 300 to $500^{\circ}c$, respectively. The risk of PP and LLDPE dusts coexisting with oxidizer was increased as the orifice diameter was decreased. On the other hand, it was increased as the weight ratio of the sample to the oxidizer were increased. In addition, the risk of PP and LLDPE dusts coexisting with oxidizer was affected by the decomposition temperature of the sample and oxidizer. It is found that the risk of fire becomes high when the decomposition temperature of the sample is about same as that of oxidizer. Also, the fire gases was occurred carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. The amount of carbon monoxide generated was found to be much higher in PP decomposition than in LLDPE due to incomplete combustion of PP which has high content of carbon in chemical compound.

Compatibility between mLLDPE and HDPE was investigated by observing the crystallization behavior and mechanical properties of their blends. HDPE and mLLDPE blends were prepared by a melt-blending with compositions of 100/0, 80/20, 60/40, 40/60/ 20/80 and 0/100. Four different mLLDPEs containing various octene contents (4.1, 6.8, 9.8 및 12.5 mol.%) were investigated. The melting temperature and crystallization peak temperature of the blends were measured by DSC and the mechanical properties were measured in an universal testing machine. By observation that the melting and crystallization peak temperatures of one component were affected by its counterparts, it was revealed that HDPE and mLLDPE are miscible or at leat partially miscible at molten state. It was also found that the crystalline phase of mLLDPE contains HDPE crystals. However. it was not clear that mLLDPE was cocrystalized in the crystalline phase of HDPE. By various investigation with DSC and mechanical properties, it was concluded that the compatibility between mLLDPE and HDPE decreases with the octene content in the mLLDPE.

The thermal and physical properties of low density polyethylene melt-blended with Metallocene linear low density polyethylenes were investigated. Since the Metallocene polyethylenes have similar MW and MWD except m-LLDPE4, it can be said that the thermal behavior and mechanical properties of the blends depend upon the l-octene comonomer content. The melting behavior of LDPE/m-LLDPE1 blends shows two melting peaks with LDPE contents higher than 50%, while the other blends show only one melting peak. It was observed that the blends show higher crystallization temperature and higher crystallinity with lower comonomer content. Initial modulus of a blend exhibited the behavior proportional to the crystallinity and the elongation at break of the blends was increased with increasing the m-LLDPE composition. Melt indices of the blends decreased with increasing the comonomer content of Metallocene LLDPE. Melt Index values of the blends show negative deviation.

We fabricated linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) particles via crystallization from decalin solution. In the thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) process, formation of particles occurred during controlled cooling of LLDPE/decalin solution. Despite an increase of nucleation and growth rate for crystals at higher polymer concentrations, which generally results in larger particles than at lower concentration, the average diameter of LLDPE particles increased as LLDPE was more concentrated in decalin solution. In the FE-SEM micrographs, the observed particles from various concentrations were smaller than 10 ${\mu}m$, showing spherical morphologies. In addition to its effect on size, concentration of LLDPE had an broadening effect on the particle size distribution.

This study analyzed effects of packaging materials and storage temperature on the shelf-life of Korean grinded yam. For experimental measurement, experimental groups were used $PET(12{\mu}m)/Al(9{\mu}m)/LLDPE(60{\mu}m)$ as opaque barrier packaging material and $PET(12{\mu}m)/PE(20{\mu}m)/VM-PET(12{\mu}m)/PE(25{\mu}m$) and barrier $NY(15{\mu}m)/LLDPE(60{\mu}m$) as transparent barrier packaging material. Control group were used normal $NY(15{\mu}m)/LLDPE(65{\mu}m)$. The grinded yam stored at refrigeration temperature ($5^{\circ}C$) and room temperature ($20^{\circ}C$C) for 8 days. Changes in color, pH, viscosity, microorganisms and sensory characteristics were measured. In the grinded yam L and ${\Delta}E$ value were not changed rapidly at refrigeration temperature. However L and ${\Delta}E$ were rapidly changed in all of packaging materials at room temperature. In two temperature condition, pH and viscosity were decreased during storage but pH was increased at $5^{\circ}C$ after 4 days. PET/Al/LLDPE and PET/PE/VM-PET/PE inhibited the growth of microorganisms effectively. PET/AL/LLDPE which is a high barrier packaging material showed the best in two temperature condition.

Polyethylene used as insulating material of power cable is nonpolar and low dielectric loss polymer. But it has defects of tree generation and accumulation of space charge by an applied voltage resulting in the decreased life and performance. To solve these problems, mixed films with LLDPE and EVA that is similar to LLDPE at physical properties in case of low VA contents were made and tested due to the blend ratios of 80:20, 70:30, 60:40 and 50:50[wt%] respectively. We investigated AC electrical treeing characteristics to acquire the best mixture ratio and effect of the tip radius of needle electrode to develop excellent treeproof materials. The degree of crystallity calculated with XRD pattern is higher for pure LLDPE, 50:50 and 70:30. For DSC analysis, it is confirmed that the melting points of mixed specimens are lower than that of pure LLDPE and higher than pure EVA's. The shape of tree propagation showed that pure EVA was electrical tree shape of the branch type, pure LLDPE and blended specimens was able to confirm tree shape of the bush type. As the tip radius go up in the blend ratio 70:30 specimen, the tree inception voltage rise. Probably the reason is the relaxation of electric field in the specimen with bigger tip ratio. As the 6 specimens were applied AC 5[KV],7.5[KV],10[KV] respectively, tree growth length is far shorter in the specimen with blend ratio 70:30, 50:50 than in pure EVA and pure LLDPE specimen. Conclusively, it is confirmed that specimens of which blend ratio are 70:30 and 50:50 are good in electrical tree retardant characteristics, especially, 70:30 has lower dielectric loss than 50:50 and its mixture ratio is the best.
Copyrolysis of biomass/plastic mixture was carried out from room temperature to $600^{\circ}C$ with varing the heating rates of 10, 20, and $30^{\circ}C/min$ using a thermogravimetric analyzer. Waste wood chip (WWC) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) were selected as a biomass and plastic, respectively. Individual pyrolysis temperature ranges were $430{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ and $230{\sim}600^{\circ}C$ for LLDPE and WWC, respectively. For the copyrolysis of WWC and LLDPE, the decomposition temperature range of WWC was not varied, while the decomposition temperature range of LLDEP was increased to a higher temperature. The results imply that the interaction might occur between LLDEP and WWC during copyolyis of LLDPE and WWC.

Nanocomposites made of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and organo-modified montmorillonite (O-MMT) were processed by melt compounding from a commercially available premixed LLDPE/nanoclay masterbatch, at different nanoclay loadings, by co-rotating twin-screw extruder. The morphological and dielectric properties of LLDPE/O-MMT nanocomposites were investigated to understand the structure-dielectric properties relationship in the nanocomposites. The microstructures of the materials were characterized by wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Initial findings by FTIR spectroscopy characterization indicated the absence of any chemical interaction between LLDPE and nanoclay during the extrusion process, while DSC showed that a 1% wt loading of nanoclay particles increased the degree of crystallinity of the nanocomposites samples. On the other hand, XRD, SEM, TEM and AFM indicated that nanoclay layers were intercalated or exfoliated in the LLDPE matrix. A correlation between the structure and dielectric properties of LLDPE/O-MMT nanocomposites was found and discussed.
