  • It is necessary to modify the state-of-the-art of speed control theory because of the phase asymmetry in the Linear Induction Motor (LIM)and for the constant speed control of mover using single vector control inverter system, it is important that primary stack is located in appropriated intervals in the 3D conveyer system using LIM. The dynamic characteristic analysis method of the vector controlled LIM using coupled FEM and control algorithm taking into account the movement is proposed. The focus of this paper is the analysis relative to selecting primary stack intervals in order to constant speed control in the 3D conveyer system using LIM.

  • LIM have mainly different point considering rotary induction motor, that is end effect. In this paper described that, end effect, adding to the rotary induction motor, They can be designed because of affects magnetizing inductance and series resistance in the d-axis circuit. After LIM modeling, using SVPWM, apply to vector control this model. We can verify feasibility of field onented control technology can control speed by simulation.

  • Light Rail Transit (LRT) System is an urban transit system which has approximately an intermediate transportation capacity between conventional subway and bus ($5,000{\sim}25,000$ persons per hour and per direction). It is a high-tech system which operational capacity, punctuality and mobility are remarkably improved. There are some types of LRT systems such as monorail, tramway, AGT(Automated Guideway Transit), and so on. The LRT systems have been applied and being operated in about a hundred lines around the world and many projects that apply the LRT systems in Korea are being proceeded and scheduled. For the efficient management, economical construction, and safe operation of various LRT systems, the establishment of national standard is necessary such as vehicle standardized specification, vehicle performance test standard, vehicle safety standard, construction guide, operation regulation, etc. of LRT systems. This paper presents the standard specification of electrical equipment of linear induction motor type light rail vehicle, that is LIM AGT(AGT system propelled with linear induction motor) vehicle. The LIM AGT system has been applied in Japan subway and ART(Advanced Rapid Transit) system of Canada and Yongin LRT is currently under construction.

  • Linear induction motor(LIM) is widely used to drive magnetic levitation train. To drive LIM, different control method compared with conventional rotary type machine is needed. Since vertical force is generated inherently and it effects on the levitation system, vertical force should be kept constant for stable levitation. To keep vertical force constant, slip frequency should be kept constant. Once slip frequency is kept constant, tractive force can be controlled by adjusting motor currents. In this paper, control methods used so far arc analyzed with some experimental results and decoupling control algorithm is proposed to control tractive and vertical force separately. Control algorithm is verified through simulation.

  • This paper describes online stator-resistance estimation of a linear induction motor(LIM) with cage-type secondary using direct thrust control(DTC), where the resistance value is derived from stator-winding temperature estimation using thermocouple. In this paper, corrected stator resistance has an error in actuality measurement resistance. So compensation coefficient $\kappa$ which is decided through comparison and verifying several times relation of calculated resistance and measured motor line-line resistance. The stator-winding temperature information can also be used for monitoring, protection, and fault-tolerant control of the machine. Also, this paper reports the LIM's responses of the flux measured by the proposed stator resistance compensation algorithm.

MRAS Based Speed Estimator for Sensorless Vector Control of a Linear Induction Motor with Improved Adaptation Mechanisms

  • This paper deals with model reference adaptive system (MRAS) speed estimators based on a secondary flux for linear induction motors (LIMs). The operation of these estimators significantly depends on an adaptation mechanism. Fixed-gain PI controller is the most common adaptation mechanism that may fail to estimate the speed correctly in different conditions, such as variation in machine parameters and noisy environment. Two adaptation mechanisms are proposed to improve LIM drive system performance, particularly at very low speed. The first adaptation mechanism is based on fuzzy theory, and the second is obtained from an LIM mechanical model. Compared with a conventional PI controller, the proposed adaptation mechanisms have low sensitivity to both variations of machine parameters and noise. The optimum parameters of adaptation mechanisms are tuned using an offline method through chaotic optimization algorithm (COA) because no design criterion is given to provide these values. The efficiency of MRAS speed estimator is validated by both numerical simulation and real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) implementations. Results indicate that the proposed adaptation mechanisms improve performance of MRAS speed estimator.

  • To operate an automatic picking system in distribution center with high precision and high dynamics, this paper presents a robust control scheme of a linear induction motor (LIM) using the mass estimation and disturbance force observer. The force disturbance which gives a direct influence on the control performance of LIM is estimated in real-time through the disturbance observer and compensated by a feedforward manner. To get a satisfactory performance even under the mass variation by reducing the disturbance force due to the mismatched mass during the speed transient such as the acceleration and deceleration periods, a mass estimation algorithm is proposed. A Simulink model for LIM is developed and the validity of the proposed scheme is verified through the comparative simulation studies using Matlab - Simulink.

  • In the future light rail vehicle is more attractive than subway, because of construction time and cost. For light rail vehicle are two types of traction motors. one is traditional rotating type and the other is linear motor. Linear motor is not better in consideration of efficiency and power factor than rotating type. But the motor needs no translation equipment for linear motion and with them can be constructed low floor vehicle. In this paper will be designed a linear induction motor with consideration of operational condition and analysed operating characteristics using FEM program and equivalent circuit.
