The second-order rate constants ($k_N$) have been measured spectrophotometrically for nucleophilic substitution reactions of Y-substituted-phenyl 2-methylbenzoates (6a-e) with a series of cyclic secondary amines in MeCN at $25.0{\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$. Comparison of the $k_N$ values for the reactions of 4-nitrophenyl 2-methylbenzoate (6d) with those reported previously for the corresponding reactions of 4-nitrophenyl 2-methoxybenzoate (5) reveals that 6d is significantly less reactive than 5, indicating that modification of 2-MeO in the benzoyl moiety of 5 by 2-Me (i.e., $5{\rightarrow}6d$) causes a significant decrease in reactivity. This supports our previous report that aminolysis of 5 proceeds through a six-membered cyclic intermediate, which is highly stabilized through intramolecular H-bonding interactions. The Br${\o}$nsted-type plot for the reactions of 6d with a series of cyclic secondary amines is linear with ${\beta}_{nuc}=0.71$, which appears to be a lower limit of ${\beta}_{nuc}$ for a stepwise mechanism with breakdown of an intermediate ($T^{\pm}$) being rate-determining step (RDS). The Br${\o}$nsted-type plot for the reactions of 6a-e with piperidine is curved, i.e., the slope of Br${\o}$nsted-type plot (${\beta}_{lg}$) decreases from -1.05 to -0.41 as the leaving-group basicity decreases. The nonlinear Br${\o}$nsted-type plot has been taken as evidence for a stepwise mechanism with a change in RDS (e.g., from the $k_2$ step to the $k_1$ process as the leaving-group basicity decreases). Dissection of $k_N$ into the microscopic rate constants associated with the reactions of 6a-e with piperidine (e.g., $k_1$ and $k_2/k_{-1}$ ratio) also supports the proposed mechanism.

Various treaments such heating, acid tenting, acid healing, alkaline treating, acid+alkaline renting were attempted to investigate their effects on molar ratio, chemical composition, DTA and specific surface area(SSA) of natural zeolite poder. Molar ratio, Si to AI. of natural zeolite was 4.78, which represented high silica type. Composition of natural zeolite showed that $SiO_2$ was 66.34% $Al_2O_3$ was 13.89%, $Fe_2O_2$ was 1.55% X-ray diffraction showed that main component of natural zeolite was mordenite and clinoptliolite. Differential Thermal Analysis and Thermogravimetry curve of natural zeolite was showed to peak of endothermic peak at $80^{\circ}C$ and it means to the peak of dehydrate reaction, but recristalization was not formed below at $1,000^{\circ}C$. Weight loss during calcination was 16% at $1,000^{\circ}C$. Thermal treatments on SSA of natural zolite powder decreased from $75.2m^2/g\;to\;2.1m^2/g$. In contrast chemical treatments on SSA showed to increase to $300.2m^2/g$(1 N HCl treating), $54.9m^2/g$(1 N NaOH) and $90.9m^2/g$(HCl+NaOH)tudy, it could be proposed to employ acid tret method as packaging materisls for MA packaging.
This study focused on analyzing solid brown cosmetic residues that were excavated from the tomb of the Hwahyeop princess. The cosmetics had been buried in 1752 in Cheonghwa Baekja (small porcelain jars) within a Huigwakham (a stone box sealed with lime). A literature search and chemical analyses of the relics were conducted at the National Palace Museum of Korea. Based on the results of these analyses, raw materials and manufacturing methods for reproduction of the cosmetic were selected and then cream-form cosmetics were prepared. Aging tests using heat, ultraviolet (UV) radiation, and CO2 were carried out to emulate the deterioration of the excavated cosmetics. Further chemical analyses and functionality tests were performed to evaluate changes from the tests and the effect as a cosmetic. As heat aging progressed, among the reproduced cosmetics, the one which has a high proposition of oil showed a color difference value of 32; the oxidation of oils involved chemical changes in O-H and C=C groups. As the cosmetic cream deteriorated under UV aging, the pH value became acidic. The result of the functional coverage test of the reproduced cosmetic cream was lower than the standard coverage ratio of modern cosmetics.
For the purpose of utilizing fly ash from gasification of low rank coal, we performed the series of experiments such as pyrolysis and char-$CO_2$ gasification on fly ash by using the thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) at non-isothermal heating conditions (10, 20 and $30^{\circ}C/min$). Pyrolysis rate has been analyzed by Kissinger method as a first order, the reliability of the model was lower because of the low content of volatile matter contained in the fly ash. The experimental results for the fly ash char-$CO_2$ gasification were analyzed by the shrinking core model, homogeneous model and random pore model and then were compared with them for the coal char-$CO_2$ gasification. The fly ash char (LG coal) with low-carbon has been successfully simulated by the homogeneous model as an activation energy of 200.8 kJ/mol. In particular, the fly ash char of KPU coal with high-carbon has been successfully described by the random pore model with the activation energy of 198.3 kJ/mol and was similar to the behavior for the $CO_2$ gasification of the coal char. As a result, the activation energy for the $CO_2$ gasification of two fly ash chars don't show a large difference, but we can confirm that the models for their $CO_2$ gasification depend on the amount of fixed carbon.
In general, anionic and cationic surfactants are incompatible because their mixtures form insoluble complexes and precipitate in the water. There are, however, some equimolar complexes of anionic and cationic surfactant that are soluble and behave like regular surfactants, specifically like nonionic surfactants, thus named pseudo-nonionic surfactant complexes. Pseudo-nonionic complexes are more effective and efficient in surface activities than their ionic surfactant components as shown by their equilibrium and dynamic surface tensions. They pack at the interface more than their ionic components. When a novel cationic surfactant, diglyceryl dodecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride(DGDAC), having the polyhydroxyl group at the hydrophilic head group, was mixed with a conventional anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate; SDS) at equimolar ratio, we found that the aqueous equimolar mixture showed strong positive synergism in which molecular interaction parameter ${\beta}^M$ was very low, -17.2. According to the studies of equilibrium phase behavior and microscopy, this mixed system could form homogenous solutions containing vesicles.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the chemical properties of some commercially available mouthwashes and to ascertain whether the mouthwashes accelerated mineral loss in dental enamel. Five commercially available mouthwashes were selected from the three largest malls in Korea: Perio Total 7 Aqua Cool Mint Strong $Fresh^{TM}$ (PS; LG Household & Health Care Ltd.), Garglin $Original^{TM}$ (Dong-A Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.), Garglin $Zero^{TM}$ (Dong-A Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.), Listerine Naturals $Citrus^{TM}$ (LC; IDS Manufacturing Ltd.), and Listerine Cool $Mint^{TM}$ (LM; IDS Manufacturing Ltd.). The composition, pH, and titratable acidity of the mouthwashes were investigated. Six bovine teeth specimens were prepared for each mouthwash group. Each of the six specimens was individually immersed in 30 ml aliquots of mouthwash for 1 minute, 30 minutes, 90 minutes, and 120 minutes, and the samples were placed in a $36.5^{\circ}C$ stirred incubator. The degree of mineral loss (${\Delta}F$) of the tooth surface area exposed to mouthwash, compared with normal teeth, was analyzed by quantitative light-induced fluorescence-digital. The difference in ${\Delta}F$ among mouthwash groups was examined by the Kruskal-Wallis H test (${\alpha}=0.05$). The contents of mouthwashes differed between Listerine and other products, and the pH ranged from 4.09 to 6.75. The titratable acidity of PS was the lowest at 0.63 ml and highest at 9.25 ml for LM. Minor mineral loss was observed when dental specimens were immersed in the Listerine products (LC and LM) for more than 90 minutes, but the degree of mineral loss for Listerine products was not statistically significantly different from that for groups without mineral loss. In conclusion, all five commercially available mouthwashes showed no harmful effects on tooth enamel.

Safe plants are maintained by the systematic identification of potential hazards. Various hazard evaluation methods have been developed in pursuit of safe plants. Recently, much efforts has been made for the automation of hazard evaluation system by introducing expert system to get rid of weak points of the conventional hazard evaluation methods. HAZOP study is recognized as one of the most systematic and logical hazard evaluation methods. However, it has several disadvantages; experts should participate simultaneously, the detailed study is time-consuming, and the quality of the results largely depends on the quality of the experts. Therefore, the automation of HAZOP Study is highly beneficial for reducing the required time and obtaining the consistent evaluation results. In this study, a framework for the automation of HAZOP study is suggested. Based on the suggested framework, HAxSYM, an expert system to automate HAZOP study, has been developed. The case study validates the performance of the developed system, and the results are compared with the results from the conventional HAZOP study.

The clay and yellow loess have capability to adsorb and precipitate particles. The removal efficiencyes of those flocculents on the dinoflagellate, Cochlodinium polykrikoides, have been studied in laboratory and in field near Tongyong fish farm in September, 1996. The removal efficiencyes in the laboratory experiment was $43\%$ for $2\;g/{\ell}$, $64\%$ for $6g/{\ell}$ and $88\%$ for $10\;g/{\ell}$ in one hour after dispersion. No big difference of removal efficiency was found between the raw and the acid-activated loess. In the field survey, the removal rates ranged from 72 to $80\%$ in 30 min after the dispersion. The effect of loess scattering on water quality was estimated. The concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), chemical of gen demand (COD) and chlorophyll a decreased more or less after dispersion, while the concentration of suspended solid (SS) increased. The concentrations of dissolved oxygen (DO) and dissolved inorganic phosphorous (DIP) were kept constant. These results indicated that the dispersion concentration of more than $10g/{\ell}$ has a good removal efficiency of above $80\%$ without big variation of water quality after dispersion of yellow loess.
The effect of stainless steel jagged-pin reinforcement on the pull-off strength of the composite hat-joint was studied by the test. The pins were physically and chemically surface-treated and inserted in the thickness direction over the interface where the skin and stiffener meet. The specimens including the jagged-pins were made by co-curing process. Diameters of the jagged-pins were 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7 mm. The pin areal densities were set to 0.5 and 2.0% based on the interface area where the skin and stiffener meet. The specimens using 0.3 mm diameter normal (un-jagged) pins with 2.0% areal density were additionally fabricated and tested to investigate the pin shape effect on the pull-off strength. The pull-off strengths of specimens reinforced with 0.5% areal density by 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7 mm diameter pins were 45, 19 and 9% higher than those of un-reinforced specimens, respectively. In case with 2.0% pin areal density, the strengths were 127, 45, and 11% higher than those of un-reinforced specimens, respectively. The test results show that the higher pin areal density results in the higher strength when the pin diameter is the same. When the pin areal density is the same, the smaller pin diameter leads to higher strength. When the joints using jagged-pins and normal pins in 2.0% areal density with 0.3 mm diameter, the joints of jagged-pins showed the 64% higher strength. From the results of this study, it was confirmed that jagged-pin reinforcement can be an effective method for improving the pull-off strength of composite hat-joint.

Background : The appearance of multiple-drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains has been seriously compromising successful control of tuberculosis. Rifampin-resistance, caused by mutations in the rpoB gene, can be indicative of multiple-drug-resistance, and its detection is of great importance. The present study aimed to develop an oligonucleotide chip for accurate and convenient screening of drug-resistance. Methods : In order to detect point mutations in the rpoB gene, an oligonucleotide chip was prepared by immobilizing specific probe DNA to a microscopic slide glass by a chemical reaction. The probe DNA that was selected from the 81 bp core region of the rpoB gene was designed to have mutation sites at the center. A total of 17 mutant probes related to rifampin-resistance including 8 rifabutin-sensitive mutant probes were used in this study. For accurate determination, wild type probes were prepared for each mutation position with an equal length, which enabled a direct comparison of the hybridization intensities between the mutant and wild type. Results : Mycobacterial genomic DNA from clinical samples was tested with the oligonucleotide chip and the results were compared with those of the drug-susceptibility test in addition to sequencing and INNO-LiPA Rif. TB kit test in some cases. Out of 15 samples, the oligonucleotide chip results of 13 samples showed good agreement with the rifabutin-sensitivity results. The two samples with conflicting result also showed a discrepancy between the other tests, suggesting such possibilities as existence of mixed strains and difference in drug-sensitivity. Further verification of these samples in addition to more case studies are required before the final evaluation of the oligonucleotide chip can be made. Conlcusion : An oligonucleotide chip was developed for the detection of rpoB gene mutations related to drugsusceptibility. The results to date show the potential for using the oligonucleotide chip for accurate and convenient screening of drug-resistance to provide useful information in antituberculosis drug therapy.
