  • The oxygen saturation of blood can be measured by the difference absorption in optical spectra of Hb and Hb0$_2$, as the well known previous study. In this study we developed the non-invasive oxygen measurement device for diagnosis of peripheral vascular disease in lower extremity using infrared and red LED which produce a peak spectral emission at a wavelength of 660 nm, and 940 nm. To evaluate the clinical application of the oxygen measurement device, we performed lower extremity study to measure the oxygen changes in response to physiological changes within biological tissue. The results showed that oxygen saturation of blood in biological tissue can be monitored from the separation arrangement light source and detector.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine optimum condition of Pavlova lutheri and Phaeodactylum tricornutum. Detailed studies were carried out on the effects of various wavelengths of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), light intensities and air flow rations. For the Pa. lutheri, cell growth rates and maximum cell concentrations were similar regardless of wavelengths and air flow rates. Among the different light intensities, cell concentration increased when light intensity of red LED increased. For Ph. tricornutum, red LED was found to be the most effective light source, and light intensity of 3,100 Lux resulted in the most effective for the cultivation of Ph. tricornutum. Different air flow rates were tested to overcome shading effects due to denser cell concentration in the solution. Aeration of 0.8 vvm was determined to be the optimum aeration rate for the cultivation of Ph. tricornutum. Especially, five and two times greater cell concentrations of Pa. lutheri and Ph. tricornutum, respectively, were observed when air was applied.

  • Instead of a highly toxic CdSe and ZnScore-shell,InP/ZnSecore-shell quantum dots [1,2] were investigated as an active material for quantum dot light emitting diode (QD-LED). In this paper, aquantum dot light-emitting diode (QDLED), consisting of a InP/ZnS core-shell type materials, with the device structure of glass/indium-tin-oxide (ITO)/PEDOT:PSS/Poly-TPD/InP-ZnS core-shell quantum dot/Cesium carbonate(CsCO3)/Al was fabricated through a simple spin coating technique. The resulting InP/ZnS core-shell QDs, emitting near blue green wavelength, were more efficient than the above CdSe QDs, and their luminescent properties were comparable to those of CdSe QDs.Thebrightness ofInP/ZnS QDLED was maximumof 179cd/m2.

  • In this study, we present a detailed investigation of luminescence properties of a blue light-emitting diode using InGaN/GaN (indium component is 17.43%) multiple quantum wells as the active region grown on patterned sapphire substrate by low-pressure metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). High-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman scattering (RS) and photoluminescence (PL) measurements are employed to study the crystal quality, the threading dislocation density, surface morphology, residual strain existing in the active region and optical properties. We conclude that the crystalline quality and surface morphology can be greatly improved, the red-shift of peak wavelength is eliminated and the superior blue light LED can be obtained because the residual strain that existed in the active region can be relaxed when the LED is grown on patterned sapphire substrate (PSS). We discuss the mechanisms of growing on PSS to enhance the superior luminescence properties of blue light LED from the viewpoint of residual strain in the active region.

  • In this paper, the white organic LED with two-wavelength was fabricated using the NPB of blue emitting material and a series of orange color fluorescent dye(Rubrene) by vacuum evaporation processes. The structure of white OLED was ITO/NPB$(200{\AA})$NPB:Rubrene$(300{\AA})$/BCP$(100{\AA})/Alq_3(100{\AA})/Al(1000{\AA})$ and the doping concentration of Rubrene was 0.75 wt%. We obtained the white OLED with CIE color coordinates were x=0.3327 and y=0.3387, and the maximum EL wavelength of the fabricated white organic light-emitting device was 560 nm at applied voltage of 11 V, which was similar to NTSC white color with CIE color coordinates of x=0.3333 and y=0.3333. The turn-on voltage is 1 V, the light-emitting him-on voltage is 4 V. We were able to obtain an excellent maximum external quantum efficiency of 0.457 % at an applied voltage of 18.5 V and current density of $369mA/cm^2$.

  • For possible applications as luminescent materials for white-light emission using UV-LEDs, $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors were prepared by a solid state reaction. The photoluminescence properties of the phosphor were investigated under ultraviolet ray (UV) excitation. The prepared phosphor powders were characterized to from a single phase of a monoclinic crystalline structure by a powder X-ray diffraction analysis. In the photoluminescence spectra, the $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor showed an intense emission band centered at the 584 nm wavelength due to the f-d transition of the $Eu^{2+}$ activator. The optimum concentration of $Eu^{2+}$ activator in the $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2$ host, indicating the maximum emission intensity under the excitation of a 395 nm wavelength, was 5 at%. In addition, it was confirmed that the $Eu^{2+}$ ions are substituted at both $Ba^{2+}$ sites in the $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2$ crystal. On the other hand, the critical distance of energy transfer between $Eu^{2+}$ ions in the $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2$ host was evaluated to be approximately 19.3 A. With increasing temperature, the emission intensity of the $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2$:Eu phosphor was considerably decreased and the central wavelength of the emission peak was shifted toward a short wavelength.

  • This paper dealt with the design and fabrication of an energy saving light emitting diode (LED) fishing lamp. Most fishes such as a squid, horse mackerel, mackerel, sardine and scabbard fish have characteristics for phototaxis and fishing lamps have promoted the fishery efficiency using their photo-reaction. In these days, metal halide lamp (MHL) as the fishing lamp, which consumes 1.5 kW and radiates harmful ultraviolet rays are mainly used. To develop the LED-fishing lamp, the penetration depth in sea water and the photo-reaction of a squid as light wavelength were studied. The experimental results showed the both characteristics were existed in blue color around 470 nm. Based on the results, we manufactured a 160 W and blue LED-fishing lamp which is consume about one-nine of 1.5 kW MHL. As energy saving effect, the use of LED-fishing lamp can reduce 128 kWh per an hour which is correspond to $CO_2$ of 86 kg for a 22ton-fishing boat equipped with 80-1.5 kW MHL. Now, the prototype LED fishing lampsare being evaluated on two fishing boats.

  • Increase of internet users and new types of applied traffics, have led to demand for more bandwidth for each application. Hence, the amount of internet traffic has risen sharply and it has demanded to use limited resources, such as wavelength and bandwidth, more effectively. These kind of needs can be satisfied with OXC(Optical cross-connects) based on GMPLS that carry out IP packet switching and wavelength switching at the same time and Provide very wide bandwidth. In RSVP-TE signaling of GMPLS studied by IETF. every lambda router in core network should be able to convert wavelength. So, lots of wavelength converters and needed and building and managing cost is high. Another problem is that optimized traffic is limited. In this paper We suggest strengthened GMPLS RSVP-TE signaling algorithm for a better lightpath setup. When setup signaling is blocked suggested algorithm does not send PathErr message to Edge Router, but looks for nearest lambda router which can convert wavelength and carry out setup signaling from that node. Such algorithm can reduce the chance of blocked lightpath setup signaling and provide effective arrangement of lambda router in core network by calculating proper number of wavelength converter.

  • This study examined the effects of red light generated from a light emitting diode (LED) upon proliferation and mitochondrial stress in human gingival fibroblasts (hGFs). Cells were exposed to LED-generated red light at a clinically relevant intensity and distance with a 610-630 nm wavelength for various times (0-48 min). At different exposure times, cells were processed for the analysis of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) activity, proliferation, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and cytotoxicity. Cell cycle progression was also investigated by flow cytometry after staining with propidium iodide. Red light exposure was found to inhibit SDH activity and DNA synthesis in hGFs in a time-dependent manner. Light exposure also reduced the MMP levels in these cells and this was closely associated with a $G_0/G_1$ arrest. In contrast, exposure of hGFs to red light for 48 min led to a dramatic loss of MMP with an attendant increase in cytotoxicity. These findings demonstrate that LED-generated red light may cause mitochondrial stress and growth inhibition in hGFs during tooth whitening therapy, depending on the length of the exposure.
