  • With the development of recent technology such as telematics, LBS, and ubiquitous, the applications of 3D GIS are rapidly increased. As 3D GIS is mainly based on urban models consisting of the realistic digital models of the objects existing in an urban area, demands for urban models and its continuous update is expected to be drastically increased. The purpose of this study is thus to propose more efficient and precise methods to construct urban models with its experimental verification. Applying the proposed methods, the terrain and sophisticated building models are constructed for the area of $270,600m^2$ with 23 buildings in the University of Seoul. For the terrain models, airborne imagery and LIDAR data is used, while the ground imagery is mainly used for the building models. It is found that the generated models reflect the correct geometry of the buildings and terrain surface. The textures of building surfaces, generated automatically using the projective transformation however, are not well-constructed because of being blotted out and shaded by objects such as trees, near buildings, and other obstacles. Consequently, the algorithms on the texture extraction should be improved to construct more realistic 3D models. Furthermore, the inside of buildings should be modeled for various potential applications in the future.

  • Various technologies such as infrared light, ultrasonic waves, RFID, GPS, UWB, and signal indicators have been incorporated in the location tracking system. However, such pre-existing systems require location recognition in shadow areas. This study proposes a location tracking system that utilizes Cooperative Spectrum Sensing. Cooperative Spectrum Sensing is not only able to track the location and path of moving objects but also recognize when objects breakaway from the path set by sensors and guide them back. In addition, it has the advantage of being more efficient in terms of frequency usage. It is able to automatically fix power transmission and frequency modulation for transmission cognitive users to an optimum level within the range that does not cause interference for primary users.

  • A location information used in LBS provides convenience to the user, but service provider can be exploited depending on how much risk you have. Location information can be exploited to track the location of the personal privacy of individuals because of the misuse of location information may violate the user can import a lot of damage. In this paper, we classify the life cycle of location information as collection, use, delivery, storage and destroy and analyze the factors the privacy is violated. Furthermore, we analyze information security mechanism is classified as operation mechanism and policy/management mechanism and propose a security solutions of all phase in life cycle.

  • DGPS is a technology that can improve the positioning precision of the existing GPS based on the correction information regarding reference station. Although the country is currently building infrastructure for DGPS correction information to be transmitted, it is being used only in limited areas for which DGPS expensive equipment is required. By enabling the development of the DGPS device using the smart phone, this limitation can be overcome, DGPS can be applied for various location-based services, and the implementation of the new model of location-based services may be enabled. In this paper, we introduce the development of a DGPS device for which high-precision positioning is possible using DGPS correction information received via the DMB network or mobile network in the smart phone environment.

  • Recently, ubiquitous computing paradigm considers as a tool for making innovation and competitive strength in manufacturing industry like other industries. Particularly, the location-based service that enables us to trace real-time logistics make effective management of schedules for inventory control, facilities and equipments, jobs planning, and facilitate the processes of information management and intelligence, which relate with ERP and SCM in organizations. Our study tries to build the location-based system for products of semiconductors in manufacturing place and suggests the good conditions and effective tracking procedures for positions of products. Our study show that the system is good for the saving of time in tracking products, however, it has to be improved in terms of accuracy. The study verifies the application of RFID technology in manufacturing industry and suggests the improvement of photograph process through RFID. In addition, our research introduces the future operation of FAB in semiconductors' processes that relate with real-time automation and RFID in manufacturing company.

  • Under strong ground motion, pounding can be caused because of the different dynamic properties between two adjacent buildings. Using different structural systems in two adjacent structures makes a difference in the lateral stiffness and thus changes the pounding force between them. In this paper, the effect of the structural system of adjacent buildings on the amount of force applied by pounding effects has been investigated. Moment resisting frame systems (MRFs), lateral X-bracing system (LBS), shear wall system (SWS) and dual system (DS) have been investigated. Four different cases has been modelled using finite element (FE) method. The number of stories of the two adjacent buildings is different in each case: case 1 with 6 and 4 stories, case 2 with 9 and 6 stories, case 3 with 15 and 6 stories and case 4 with 10 and 10 stories. The structures have been modelled three-dimensionally. Non-linear time history analysis has been done on the structures using the finite element software SAP2000. In order to model pounding effects, the non-linear gap elements have been used.

  • In this paper, it was described the current technology status of bearingless rotor hub system for helicopter which is one of major rotor hub system. Also, a conceptual study on the new bearingless rotor hub system of helicopter was described. First, the advantages and disadvantages of major helicopter rotor hub system are described in comparison to each other types of rotor hub system. The unique characteristics of bearingless rotor hub system are described compared to other types of rotor hub systems. Next, the main function, role and characteristics of the sub-components of bearingless rotor hub system are described. Recent helicopters which adopt this bearingless rotor hub system are described and introduced. This conceptual study shows that double-H sectional construction and rectangular construction of flexbeam are the most effective candidates of this new bearingless rotor system. This bearingless rotor hub system can be used for 7,000lbs class helicopter. Now, a further trade-off study will show.

  • The LBS(Location Based Service) technology plays an important role in reducing wastes of time, losses of human lives and economic losses by detecting the user's location in order by suggesting the optimal evacuation route of the users in case of safety accidents. We developed an algorithm to estimate indoor location, movement path and indoor location changes of smart phone users based on the built-in sensors of smartphones and the dead-reckoning algorithm for pedestrians without a connection with smart devices such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Furthermore, seven different indoor movement scenarios were selected to measure the performance of this algorithm and the accuracy of the indoor location estimation was measured by comparing the actual movement route and the algorithm results of the experimenter(pedestrian) who performed the indoor movement. The experimental result showed that this algorithm had an average accuracy of 95.0%.

  • Partly due to the climate changes, flooding occurs more often than before. Particularly high urbanization causes more damages by flooding with unexpected downpours. Recent mobile telecommunication technology can help to reduce the damage by a natural disaster with quick alarming process. This research aimed to implement a flood warning GIS service system based on open source software and mobile hybrid application program with LBS. The developed system utilized location information of mobile clients for smart phone users to get alerted to flooding immediately. This service system would be very useful in urban areas to reduce the flood damages.

  • This study presents an ultrasonic location awareness system for the ubiquitous computing with absolute position. The flight time of ultrasonic waves is determined by a period detecting technique which is able to extend the sensing range compared with traditional methods. For location awareness, ultrasonic waves are sent successively from each ultrasonic transmitter and synchronized by radio frequency (RF) signal, where the transmitting part is fixed and the receiving part is movable. To expand the recognizing range, cell matching technique and coded ultrasonic technique are introduced. The experimentation for various distances is accomplished to verify the used period detecting technique of U-SAT system. The positioning accuracy by using cell matching is also verified by finding the locations of settled points and the usability of coded ultrasonic technique is verified. As a result, the possibility of ultrasonic location awareness system for the ubiquitous computing can be discussed as a pseudo-satellite system with low cost, a high update rate, and relatively high precision, in the places where CPS is not available.
