  • LB method is one of the most interesting technique to arrange certain molecular groups at precise position relative to others. Also, the LB deposition technique can fabricate extremely thin organic films with a high degree of control over their thickness and molecular architecture. In this way, new thin film materials can be built up at the molecular level, and the relationship between these artificial structures and the properties of materials can be explored. In this paper, evaluation of physical properties was made for dielectric relaxation phenomena by the detection of the surface pressures and displacements current on the monolayer films of phospolipid monomolecular DLPC. Lipid thin films were manufacture by detecting deposition for the accumulation and the current was measured after the electric bias was applied across the manufactured MIM device. It is found that the phospolipid monolayer of dielectric relaxation takes a little time and depend on the molecular area. When electric bias is applied across the manufactured MIM device by the deposition condition of phospolipid mono-layer, it wasn't breakdown when the higher electric field to impress by increase of deposition layers.

  • Monolayers of lipids on a water surface have attracted much interest as models of biological membranes but also as precursors of multilayer systems promising many technical applications. Until now, many methodologies have been developed in order to gain a better understand. Photoisomerization in monolayers of a novel azobenzene compound, azobenzene dendrimer, was investigated for the first time by means of the absorption spectrum and Maxwell displacement current (MDC) technique. Dendrimers are well-defined macromolecules exhibiting a tree-like structure, first derived by the cascade molecule approach. According to the absorption spectrum, trans-to-cis conversion ratio was estimated to the third generation of azobenzene dendrimer deposited onto a glass substrate. Temperature-dependent induced charge with trans-cis isomerization was also measured by means of MDC technique.

  • This study investigates the role of microbial extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs) as bioflocculants to harvest microalgae (water-microalgae separation). The EPS extracted from waste activated sludge (WAS) by heat extraction were fractionated into soluble EPS (S-EPS), loosely-bound EPS (LB-EPS) and tightly-bound EPS (TB-EPS) forms. All the EPSs facilitated the flocculation of microalgal cells from stable growth medium. Of those EPSs, the TB-EPS showed the highest flocculating activity (FA) resulting in the substantial decrease in the amount of EPS added in terms of total organic carbon (TOC) during flocculation. The FA of microalgae was improved with the increase in TB-EPS dose, however, excessive dose of TB-EPS adversely affected it due to destabilization. Both LB- and TB-EPS could be utilized for flocculating microalgae as a sustainable option to the existing chemical-based flocculants. In addition to the conventional assessments, the effectiveness of the two bioflocculants for floc forming was also confirmed using a novel assessment of lens-free shadow imaging technique (LSIT), which was firstly applied for the rapid and quantitative assessment of microalgal flocculation.

  • In the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique, a monolayer on the water surface is transferred onto a substrate, which is raised and dipped through the surface. From this, multilayers can be obtained in which constituent molecules are periodically arranged. The LB technique has attracted considerable interest in the fabrication of electrical and electronic devices. Many researchers have investigated the electrical properties of monolayer and multiplayer films. Dendrimers represent a new class of synthetic macromolecules characterized by a regularly branched treelike structure. Multiple branching yields a large number of chain ends that distinguish dendrimers from conventional star-like polymers and microgels. The agobenzene dendrimer is one of the dendritic macromolecules that include the azo-group exhibiting a photochromic character. Due to the Presence of the charge transfer element of the azo-group and its rod-shaped structure, these compounds are expected to have potential interest in electronics and ptoelectronics, especially in nonlinear optics. In the present paper, we give pressure stimulation to organic thin films and detect the induced displacement current.

  • A copolymer P[OSA-MI] was synthesized by copolymerization of its corresponding monomers, N-phenyl maleimide (MI) and 2-octen-l-ylsuccinic anhydride (OSA). The polymer (poly[2-[1-(2,5-dioxo-l-phenylpyrrolidin-3-ylmethyl)heptyl]-succinic acid 4-(2-$\{$ethyl-[4-(4-nitrophen-ylazo)phenyl]amino$\}$ethyl)ester]) P[DR1MA-MI] was obtained from the reaction of P[OSA-MI] with 2-[4-(4-nitrophenylazo)-N-ethylphenylamino] ethanol (DR1). A stable monolayer of P[DRIMA-MI] was formed by spreading the solution of the polymer in chloroform. In Y-type Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films prepared using this Langmuir-Blodgett method, the second harmonic waves generated from adjacent mono layers canceled each other out. In X-and Z-type LB films, the second harmonic intensity increased upon increasing the number of monolayers, but this increase was somewhat smaller than predicted by the square law. This phenomenon is due to defects or imperfect alignment of the dipoles in the LB film. The generation of second harmonic waves from Y-type LB films having an even number of mono layers supports this argument. The degree of imperfection seemed to increase as the number of layers increased. The second-order nonlinear optical properties of spin-cast films of these polymers were also measured. The largest second harmonic coefficient of the poled P[DRIMA-MI] film coated on a glass plate was 19 pm/V.

  • In this study, we modified the surface of ground calcium carbonate (GCC) with polyelectrolytes with different molecular weight using Layer-by-Layer (LbL) multilayering technique and investigated its effect on the paper properties. Polydiallydimethylammonium chloride (poly-DADMAC) and poly sodium 4-styrene sulfonate (PSS) which have different molecular weights were used for LbL multilayering. Zeta potential and particle size of the LbL modified GCC were measured. After preparation of handsheets, their structural and mechanical properties were evaluated. The zeta potential and average particle size of the modified GCC were affected by the molecular weight of anionic polyelectrolyte (PSS). The zeta potential was higher and the particle size was smaller when GCC was treated by PSS with high molecular weight compared to the case with low molecular weight of PSS. The tensile and internal bond strength of the handsheets was increased with an increase in the number of layers on GCC particles, but the molecular weight of polyelectrolyte did not significantly affect the paper strength.

  • We have studied a fabrication of Poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) wire arrays and structures with various feature sizes from hundreds micrometers to tens nanometers. PEDOT is well-known as a conducting material, can be grown by a vapor pressure polymerization (VPP) method. The VPP technique is a bottom-up processing method that utilizes the organic arrangement of macromolecules to easily produce ordered aggregates. Also, liquid-bridge-mediated nanotransfer molding (LB-nTM), which was reported as a new direct patterning method recently, is based on the direct transfer of various materials from a mould to a substrate through a liquid bridge between them. The PEDOT nanowires grown by VPP method and transferred on a substrate to use LB-nTM method have been investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Selected Area Electron Diffraction (SAED), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), and electrical properties.

  • Techniques measuring Maxwell displacement current (MDC) and LB films surface measuring technique have been applied to the study of monolayers of polyamic acid containing azobenzene. MDCs was generated from monolayers on the water surface by monolayer compression and expansion. It was generated when the area per molecule was about $103{\AA}^2\;and\;78{\AA}^2$ just before the initial rise of the surface pressure during the 1st and 2nd mixed monolayer compressions cycle, respectively. It was the maximum of MDCs appeared at the molecular area just before the initial rise of surface pressure in compression cycles, and we have found that the increase of aggregations causes the noticeable increase of the surface roughness.

  • Maxwell displacement current(MDC) measuring technique has been applied on the study of monolayers of fatty acid. The displacement current was generated from monolayers on the water surface by monolayer compression and expansion. Displacement current was generated when the area per molecule was about $130{\AA}^2$. MDCs were investigated in connection with monolayer compression cycles. It was found that the current pulses were generated over the entire range of molecular area, and the maximum of MDC appeared at the molecular area just before the initial rise of surface pressure in compression cycles. We investigated the change in absorption spectra of the fatty acid(8A5H) monolayer LB film due to cis-trans photoisomerization. It was found that the absorption spectrum of the 8A5H LB film was induce to photoisomerization by alternate irradiation with UV and visible light irradiation.
